Mickey’s Philharmagic lines

Mickey’s Philharmagic had been a walk on for a long time. My recent trip found long lines out the door, and today I saw that May 18 fast passes ran out today before Mine Train, Soarin’, Test Track, or Frozen. Has something changed? Is there a new Movie in Philharmagic? Any ideas?
I don't like the sound of this. Its going to be our first time seeing it. Going this June. And I did not get a fast pass for it.

dont worry friend. philli is quick to get on even if the queue looks long. 1 show circle usually
Good because I don't have a FP for it. I read that using a FP for most stage type shows at Disney is a waste of them. I've read only great things about this particular show though. Looking forward to seeing it with my grandsons.

If they'd replace the projectors (or at least focus them well) it would be so much better.

Its not that old of an attraction yet is it? Last time I was at WDW was in 2012 and I didn't see it then. Fantasy Land was being revamped then and some of it was blocked off. Seems like its not been enough time for it to start breaking down already.

you'll be fine, trust us.

also the projections and 4D etc are still pretty spot on. if you dont go regular you wont see or know the difference. i've been 6 times in the past 7 or 8 years and always had an amazing experience at this show. the grandsons will LOVE it

It's a really good show. I very much enjoy it. The posters grandson (and the poster!) will love it (and I thought Disneyland stans would pan it coming to DCA but many are thrilled because it's a good show)

And no, you don't need a FP for it. I tried it once, and never found it beneficial in anyway. It just gives you a set time to queue up, basically. I don't really get the point of FP being offered other than for Disney data purposes.

I remember the good ol days when the best course of action was to be at the parks lined up at least 30 minutes before they opened then be at the ropes ready for them to drop and make sure you knew your maps and lay of the lands very well. At rope drop you ran, I mean walked very fast (grin) to the most popular attraction first.

In 93 I saw a "short cut" lined out in a unofficial guide book. Through a little ally between some bathrooms. Got us to Splash Mt in nearly seconds. We walked right straight up to the ride and got on. That was when Splash was the big rage every one wanted to see first.

We always did half MK one day and the other half the next. Same with Epcot. World showcase one day future world the next.

But this fast pass crap has us running from one end of the parks to the other.

I don't know, guess we will see how it all works out but so far I am not liking this fast pass stuff at all. But the way crowds are now at all the Disney parks.... I don't think the old strategy of getting there an hour before rope drop works very well any more either. One of the biggest reasons we have not been back to a Disney park, even Disney Land here in Cali where we live, is because the crowds have made it no fun at all any more. Disney Land has turned into a night mare! California Adventure is more comfortable where crowds are concerned but really its just a fancy wrapped over priced six flags type of park. With a few nice stage shows thrown in. Thats why its not as fun or as popular as Disney Land.

We have not been back to Disney Land since 04 because the last time was so crowded that all the mountain rides broke down in the same day because they just could not handle it. I demanded half my money back and got it. I told them off so bad. I said if your attractions cant handle elbow to elbow crowds then you should not let elbow to elbow crowds happen in the first place!

I won't go back to DL unless they find a way to make it better. Its just not worth it to me any more. Why should I spend that kind of money to wait hours in lines only to get to the end to find out the ride is broken and can't ride it? So they give you a free fast pass for a different day. SO WHAT! That does not work if you are not coming back soon. No I said to them. You give me at least half my money back. Two day passes. I told them we rode every thing in Cali Adventure because it was not over crowded so they don't owe me my mony back for that but DL park was a total waste of time and money not to mention the total disappointment.

They did. Because I told them under no uncertain terms.... HEY MR MOUSE.... MA MA'S NOT FEEL'N THE MAGIC TODAY!

I made my family wait outside on the steps in front of the customer relations building while I went inside and had a talk with Mr Mouse. They were tired and wanted to go home. I was too but there was no way in heck Mr. Mouse was going to take my money and not give up any of his magic in return for it.

Rope drop is still a thing, and can be very beneficial. All the planning sites will tell you that lines are shortest early in the day.

And you don't have to run all over the park. You can group FPs for areas. We're doing one day with FPs in Fantasyland and one day with FPs in Adventureland and Frontierland because I have a small kiddo, and I know she will do better with her little legs if we manage expectations and don't zig zag the park. For me, this is an advantage FP+ has over the old paper system. I'm planning to get extra FPs after our initial 3, but I won't be heartbroken over it either.

I've never gotten a FP for another day when a ride broke. It was always a FP for the same day, and for any ride.

On topic with the thread, I've also never waited more than one cycle/show for Philharmagic.

Ehhhh. While there is an advantage to rope drop in a lot of cases, I don't necessarily find it super beneficial anymore (it was also more beneficial when you could get a paper FP). I can experience shorter waits later at night too, at least where DHS and Epcot were concerned (MK you can do a run around during and after fireworks and do well). I typically preferred hitting them at night, between 6 and park close ... but there's still some advantage to getting there at rope drop. I do think crowding and morning EMH sort of helped kill the true advantage, but if it's for a specific purpose (like riding Flight of Passage or Mine Train), then you will benefit from it. Yes, overall crowds are lower, it's more pleasant from about 9-11am, but it depends. I don't find it nearly as appealing as I once did.

I am really looking forward to seeing Philhar because of all the great reviews about it. And this time I plan on riding something that I always passed up on prior trips because I felt I would not have time for it and there were other attractions my kids would not have wanted to miss for it.

We are riding the River Boat this time because Grammy (me) wants to. No ifs, ands buts, about it. I want to stand way up on the very top floor of it. Right up front hopefully. I want to feel like the couple in Titanic. I'm the queen of the world!😁

Rope drop is definitely still a thing. Huge part of my strategy for never waiting longer than about 30 min for any attraction, even on the most crowded days. Although there are other ways to do it... First 90 minutes of the day are very managable.

Ok. I'm glad you still find it to be a benefit :) But I'm also not surprised you have a total opposite take ;)

It's a nice strategy and I said there was some benefit still. I never really said there was no benefit (I also pointed out that it's good if you want to get on a must-see attraction, did I not?). *I* didn't see the benefit that much anymore. Me. I. ;) lol All of this is IMHO ;) All of us have different experiences, no? And it's not meant to brag, but I'm also at the parks a lot more than a lot of you who take a year or two visit and rope drop :) We all have different experiences. Not sure why I always feel like I have to defend my opinion. Which is all it is :)
