Michael Giacchino hinting at new audio for Space Mountain?

OK before I start, I have to say this is completely open to interpretation.

I was at the Presenting Pixar event at Epcot the other week, and guest Michael Giacchino (movie and attraction score composer) mentioned WDW Space Mountain's audio. First up when asked what he had be doing at WDW, he mentioned he rode SM, and suggested he wasn't keen on the audio. Then later, when asked what he would like to work on next, he said something along the lines of "reworking Space Mountain's audio".

Seemed interesting to me that he mentioned it twice, so it left me wondering if there are more solid plans for the future of WDW's Space Mountain, and that the current audio solution is just temporary.

While they're at it they should turn the music up! I rode about a week ago and you could seriously barely hear the music until the end. The sound effects sounded good though.

When it was louder it echoed like crazy in the large open spaced building and sounded bad. All the reasons why offboard doesn't work, and why WDI worked so hard to make onboard audio a reality with Space Mountain in Paris, and then later for Rock n Roller, California Screamin and DL Space Mountain.

After many years, I finally mustered up the courage to ride Space Mountain for the first time this past March, and until this thread, I honestly had no idea that there was a soundtrack for that attraction! I guess I was so scared that I have no recollection of it. Unbelievable! Next trip I'll have to pay more attention now that I know what to expect from the ride itself. LOL.

I have found in difficult to hear the audio on the ride. If the turned it up it would make a huge difference. As far as the music goes I do enjoy the track.

Strangely, the best I`ve heard it was the day it was introduced. Since then all the tweaking has turned a not-bad-for-what-it-is effect into a hit 'n'miss affair.

Yeah, its strange. On some days I can make it out, on other days its like its not even there until the very end of the ride. It definitely sounded marginally better when they first introduced it.

Well, it does not help that they basically had some random guy who can make a few synthesizer noises do the score.

I agree. I was there when it was first added, and it did seem softer on subsequent visits.

Sounds like it's pretty consistent across the board in terms of the music being not loud enough lately. It sounded great to me in January, but my brother (who was there in March) said he had no clue there was new music, and he pays attention to those sorts of things.

I'm not a huge fan of the music. I like the track and all, I think it fits our Space mt. bests, but I wouldn't be devastated if it left and they just kept the sound effects. I kinda like that it's 'low' so you can hear the screams of other people and other rockets zipping by on the track.

I was there in November and I didn't have a problem with it. It was neat just hearing sounds. The music in the distance was just an added bonus. :D

I was the one that asked Michael that question at Saturday night's seminar. From what I understand, what he was saying was he heard Florida's SM got the half-way refurbishment and hopes for them to finish their work someday, and that if they ever do, he'd be interested to work with them again. No mention of future projects.
