Michael Colglazier

I wrote this over in the other Meg Crofton thread, but it relates directly here as well...

I will need to hear and learn more about Michael Colglazier before I can pass judgment. But I can say this much.... Disneyland is very different from a WDW park. And if Mr. Colglazier thinks he can get away with stuff like the Yeti not working for years while the rest of the attractions gather dust by the inch (cough... Dinosaur) and go long term without rehabs and upgrades (cough... Bug Show.... cough, cough... Kali, Jammin' Jungle Parade, FOTLK) then the Disneyland fan community will be a rude awakening for him.

I hope Mr. Colglazier is being set up by his superiors with an honest assessment of what he's getting himself into, and how little of what he's been doing at Animal Kingdom the last few years applies to Southern California. Putting an entire park in B Mode for several years while you focus on DVC upcharge experiences is not an option in Anaheim, Mr. Colglazier. :D

The more I hear, the less I like.

Sounds very much like someone who isn't going to fit in with the culture well at all. But I also hear he may be there to prime him for a Burbank position. Still, DAK has been a mess under him (oh where have you gone Dr. Beth!) and when you're known for time in strategic planning and implementing PhotoPass, well, those aren't big selling points to me at all.

DL is still getting stuff in the next few years... they're actually going to respond when Harry Potter shows up at their door.

As far as what it means that Kalogridis is coming to WDW? @WDW1974 says that he's very good at playing politics and being in the right place at the right time, so I'm hoping that means he wouldn't put himself in the position where his last job before retirement is to be the person left holding up the WDW house of cards when it starts to tumble?

Too tired to type a long response ... but I've answered plenty on the George K thread up on News and Rumors.

Hope to see Georgie soon. It has been too long!

Avatar is on life support again, but Joe isn't. ... Neither, it seems, is our pal Tony despite what he was saying at IAAPA.
What, exactly, is Rohde going to work on now? His contributions to Village Natures was completed long ago. And I don't see any major projects for DAK if Avatar is DOA. What is there for him to do?

As for Tony... that's his 50th anniversary at work. Somebody inside the company is going to make sure he gets there, even if it means staying home in Anaheim Hills twice a week and shopping for collectibles on eBay for lack of anything to work on.

Something tells me that the corporate bio released to the media for Michael Colglazier's promotion announcement is one of the last times we'll hear Avatarland mentioned publically. I've never had a good feeling about it, always been suspicious of it, and my amateur hunch is it will join Discovery Bay in the WDI vault of lands that were never built.

We've got seven (7) months until the D23 Expo opens at the Anaheim Convention Center this August. That gives them about six months to either bury the thing and move forward on another concept for WDW, or pull the trigger and actually do something. If they don't go big with Avatarland artwork and models at the WDI Pavilion in the Expo exhibit halls this August, for a major project Disney says begins construction "in 2013", then they need to just formally kill it.

Some new bright and shiny object will divert attention away from this PR train wreck at D23. Probably the NextGEN stuff.

What the hell were they thinking? Why go mainstream corporate website public on a project that hasn't broken ground yet?

Disney will never learn.

I chuckled when I read that bio... "instrumental in the planning of Avatar Land" or something like that. I'm sure the project will have a tough time moving forward without his presence in Orlando. May even kill the project.

So Michael showed to up one of the MiceAge/MiceChat 10th Anniversary events last week, which was a surprise, talked to the guests and gave everyone a copy of The Golden Horseshoe's soundtrack, which was nice of him. Now, he was seen today at Disneyland, as a popcorn server on the hub... And he even wore the required CM uniform for that position. That was nice of him.;)
