Wow if Disney buys MGM, maybe this means immunity for that little mouse named Jerry from that nasty cat Tom.

After all, Jerry would be in with the biggest cheese of them all! :)

It is extremly unlikly that Disney will buy it considering they just bought Fox Family, which I think was a waste of money. Although I do like having Who's Line on during the week. If MGM is bought Disney will have some serious debt. All though it would be really cool for them to own it.

If the Price is Right!

Disney does need the live action content. As an example, the Great Movie Ride wouldn't be that great without MGM property. The only real problem I see with this deal is that when Ted Turner owned MGM, he retained the rights to about 300 of the best MGM films including Gone with the Wind. But as you all should know, Disney puts "content" first. While the price is high now maybe we'll see it "come on down"! See the following link:

I sure hope not!

I'm hoping Disney DOESN'T buy MGM. With travel the way it is right now, the last thing they need to do is make a bad investment. Seven billion is ALOT to pay out during a recession and I'd hate to see Disney go belly-up for biting off more than they can chew.

i dont really think id care if disney bought it or not... if someone else bought it i dont think i'd care one bit. I dont really like to say MGM when I talk about that park. I just find it better to say disney studios... i dont know... its just me :brick:

I think Disney should by it I would not want to see MGM in any other companies hand I think it would make problem in the Disney-MGM park and i think over time Disney could make it better. They would have a great old live action movie library. So i think if was put to around 5 million they should go for it. WAs the Wizard of Oz WB or MGM? And Does MGM still own the United Artist company?

Also I heard that the Muppets were bought by a German company.

How can these elements be present in a Disney theme park when they are owned by the competitors?

The Muppets were sold in 2000 to EM.TV but they are know up for sale again and no one seems interested.

MGM made The Wizard of Oz. However, when Ted Turner bought MGM he was also involved with the Time, Warner, AOL outfit. Due to a financial squeeze, Turner sold MGM but retained the rights to about 300 of the best MGM films (Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind as examples). These films are now the property of Warner Brothers. Disney uses the Wizard of Oz stuff in the GMR through a licensing agreement. As a side note, Disney had originally planned to spin you through a tornado on the GMR just before the entrance to OZ. However that Oz movie effect is held under a separate license by the original fx creator. Disney refused to pay the licensing fee (too expensive they thought) so they had to scrap that idea. Sorcerer Mickey now takes up that space (ever notice how "vacant" that part of the ride looks to your right?). And yes, United Artists is owned by MGM.

In the Great Movie ride is the Wizard of Oz in there? ANd if so why is it? It is a WB movie now. Also Why Did MGM sell there best movies? Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind. Also If Disney did buy MGM would they keep MGM Grand Hotel and UA? It seems like MGM old give them a good movie library but it would be better if they cold get ther old ones back.

Purchasing these two properties (MGM and Muppets) will make it all the more difficult for anyone to make a takeover move on Disney. It's the wisest thing for Disney to do! Plus it would be the coolest!

Hmm, I say let Disney buy MGM, but let the muppets own themselves. I've heard the muppeteers are trying hard to get all of America to love the muppets again ( don't you love that Shrimp guy on the long john silver's commercials?!). They took a blow after Muppets from Space.

So they're trying to get lots of publicity, and they just made a "Muppet High" direct to video series at a Disney-MGM soundstage. So hopefully, soon the muppeteers will be able to buy the muppets THEMSELVES and we will see Kermit rule again. They'd still keep Muppetvision of course, and it seems Disney and the Muppets are getting friendly again, Muppetvision at DCA, and the new news of the filming at the studios. I'm excited.
