Screamscape reported today that Disney MGM Studios will be dropping the MGM very soon, and to expect an announcment October 1st. Now this rumor has been hot/cold/hot/cold. Has anyone else heard any info on this??

I'll believe it when it actually happens...they've been saying this was to happen for the last 5 years.

When I see the signs changed, I'll believe it.

i think that it should be either disney studios or disney-pixar studios.

i think disney studios will be the logical choice for a number of reasons.
  1. any pro-mo video since 03 has been calling it "disney studios".
  2. no one seems to realise or notice that MGM is even there in the title.
  3. it sounds better.

From my understanding the only thing that will be effected by this would be the GMR. It could either mean a retheme or rebuild.

FYI -

"They" (meaning everyone, practically) have been saying this since GMR opened. It's a rumor that is a lot like Paul McCartney; very elderly, yet extremely popular.

Pixar does not have any studios in the park what so ever. Disney has ( or had ) the animation department and the studio backlot which some Disney films were filmed. Not a single Pixar film has been made there. Why call it the Disney Pixar studios then?
I must have missed those MGM studios. ;)

They won't use ABC in the title. Disney is looking to unload ABC if they can get the right price. They are selling off the ABC radio stations now.

They are?? :veryconfu I know there are selling off the radio stations but I haven't heard anything about ABC, the television networks.

I'm assuming you haven't seen the Monsters Inc characters at MGM?

Disney bought Pixar for 7.4 BILLION.

So? Pixar hasn't done any of their films there. Why call it the Pixar studios if they've never used the studios themselves. I still say it should just be the Disney Studios. Walt Disney Studios sounds cooler although its the same name as the considerably inferior park in Paris.

Just repeating what I heard. Like many others I will believe it when I see the signs changed out front.

I personally like the disney-pixar studios. I like disney-abc studios as well. I didnt know disney was looking to get rid of abc, during the fall it has the best primtime tune ins. Well anyway, i think it is a good thing that mgm is going away from disney.

The only time I heard that the name was going to be changed to the Disney-Pixar Studios was on the MouseTunes Podcast of July 23. The only reason I could see this happening is as a result of the Midway Mania attraction that is rumored to go in the Millionaire space. Rumor has it it will revolve around Toy Story - as most of you already know. My money's on The Disney Studios.

How many MGM movies have been made there? Your logic is full of holes.

Are we sure that Disney is trying to drop ABC, when the network is on a tremendous upswing as far as ratings are concerned? Heck, their Sunday night offerings (Desperate Housewives, etc.) are arguably the most watched television today - and don't forget other big ABC hits like Lost, Boston Legal, Dancing with the Stars, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Grey's Anatomy...not to mention the daytime soaps that will ALWAYS bring in big numbers, since they're the most iconic daytime dramas going today - and, they've got the contract with the NBA to run on ESPN and ABC, which if they sold the network could cause tremendous problems for the NBA as far as advertising goes. Just seems foolish to me for the Diz to sell ABC when it's on it's way up - it would be like them selling ESPN back in the late 90's early 2000's when it was at it's peak.

As for Pixar being added to the name - I, personally, don't care for it, but I wouldn't mind if they did. Last I checked it's got the MGM name branded to it, and there have been very few (if any) MGM properties filmed on location.

If I had my preference, though, I'd like it to be Walt Disney Studios Florida - but that's probably a pipe dream. :)

I've seen absolutely nothing about Disney trying to get rid of ABC. In fact, they (Disney Execs) have done nothing but praise the network for its comeback and how well it's doing now. I try to watch the media / network type news and have seen zero information about ABC being dropped.

"Disney Studios" would make the most sense, and could act as an umbrella, for any and all affiliations with various entities. Within the park there could be individual partitions for the current alliances.

I think Disney Pixar Studios would be great but then they would have to really bring back the animation dept. to the studio.
