Even if the name does change it won't make a difference because I know a lot of people that refer to any park at the Walt Disney World Resort as Disney. And I have heard on numerous occassions people refer to WDW as Disney Land (no knock on DL) while walking around Disney World...... I have ocme back from trips in the past and a few of my friends ask how Universal was and when I tell them I went to MGM they as arent they the same?!?!?!?!

I don't think the fact that there is no filming going on there is the problem. Given proper budgets and theming, it could be a very convincing studio without actual filming--have the imagineers do their magic and construct some convincing backlots, add more streetmosphere actors including movie actors and camera crews, and it would be very convincing. They could even make a little money by putting guests in scenes around the park and then, of course, allowing them to purchase the video. So many missed opportunities at a park with a theme that would write itself. There's a reason that there are SO MANY studios themed parks around the world--it's an easy theme to go with that by its own nature endorses the company paying for the park.

when we were chosen to be in the water tank stunt thing before the backlot tour we didn't have a picture or anything of it! our biggest complaint was why not make a dvd of it and either give to the participants or sell them for a few bucks.

I thought I heard a while back that Disney and Pixar dissolved their partnership. If this is true, then why would they rename the park "Disney-Pixar Studios" when "Disney-Pixar" no longer exists?

Disney bought out Pixar last year.

EDIT: Here's an excerpt from a research paper I wrote, dated April 17, 2006. It's about The Walt Disney Company.

". . . in March of 2006 the company acquired Pixar Animation Studios from Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Computer Inc., in a $4.7 Billion transaction."

Apple Computer Inc. is now Apple Inc., but other than that, everything is factual. That's why we're seeing more of Pixar in the parks... Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor, Turtle Talk with Crush, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, The Nemo Musical at DAK, and the Nemo Submarine Voyage at DL. I'm sure I'm missing a few attractions, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. :D

It just feels like everything new is Pixar, which I guess makes sense as Disney hasn't released anything new recently.

Laugh Floor
Toy Story Mania
Nemo and Friends (Living Seas)
Turtle Talk (with Crush)
Disneyland's Nemo sub ride

I'm sure I'm forgetting 1 or 2 Nemo rides :hammer:

Disney has come out with new stuff that is not Pixar related: Expedition Everest and Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros.

Yes but I do think the tendency is towards Pixar at the moment, not surprisingly since Pixar is still relatively new. I do hope they keep the right balance in the parks but I have no objection to Pixar attractions. If Pirates wasn't actually based on an attraction I think we would have seen a major attraction on this amazing film franchise but Pixar brings people to the parks so it makes sense.

Back on topic, it will be interesting to see if the long time rumoured change of Disney-MGM studios will ever actually happen. Personally I hope it doesn't, but I suspect it eventually will. :)

Sorry, I meant Disney hasn't been releasing new animated films recently so its hard to make new attractions around their own characters versus Pixars.

You're right, they do have new attractions that aren't Pixar themed.
Though, really, Little Nemo... does he get his own gate soon?

i just hope that hollywood and susnet blvd stays and they take the hat down so that you can see the beautiful grauman's theater.

i can't see them re-themeing the sunset/hollywood blvds -
The hat won't be going anywhere, unless they replace it with something else, like Buzz Lightyear's Spaceship, or a giant Monster's Inc. door, or...

yeah it's solidly a half-day park. It's a great afternoon park--I like AK in the morning, MGM in the evening parks--you get to see ToT and RnRC in all their nighttime glory (heck, the whole front of the park is best viewed at night), and you get Fantasmic! What is funny is that MGM used to be a full-day park (to me, anyway). Back when RnRC was new and there weren't so many shuttered shows and the Backlot Tour was still a respectable ride, you could spend a whole day at MGM. It's just been allowed to stagnate so much with no new rides, and shows that are either so old that they are no longer worthwhile or shows that were never worthy of multiple viewings (along with a parade that has worn out its welcome at some point during its 6 years in the park, thrilling whatever guests its obnoxious announcers could interrupt enough to make them stop and watch), and thus we arrive at an MGM where really only ToT, RnRC, and Fantasmic! are must-sees anymore.
