If forced to choose between the two, it would be La Hacienda simply becasue the food is "Disney better" between the two. SAI has, IMO, awesome ambiance but the food is so "meh". A bonus to LA Hacienda is if you time it with Illuminations you could have a nice view of that during dinner.

San Angel Inn went through a menu revision a couple years ago, and the food there is MUCH better. That said, the food at La Hacienda is still the best of the two. If you want amazing ambiance along with some pretty good food, go with San Angel Inn. If you want amazing food in a very nice room with a great view of the World Showcase Lagoon, go with La Hacienda.

Im not 100% positive as it has been a while since we dined there. San Angel Inn is more traditional or gormet Mexican food. Hacienda is what i considered more of an Americanized version.

Hmmm. I would look at it as just the opposite - San Angel Inn is a little more Americanized, while La Hacienda is much more authentic. But that's just my take . . .

This will probably make my choice. I like the more Americanized version over the traditional. I think I will got with La Hacienda!!

One more question about these restaurants. Spicy doesn't bother my kids but I can't eat very "hot" food. How is the spicy level of the food at these two Mexican restaurants?

I really like SAI for the overall experience and found the food to be comparable. Only issue we ever had was the service at SAI was somewhat lacking

We ate at multiple sit down restaurants (Mama Melrose's, Yak & Yeti, The Plaza, Tutto Italia, among others) on our last trip and enjoyed the food at the San Angel Inn the best. Which was a compete 180 from our prior visit.

Dining at either is really nice. Service we found to be excellent. View onto the lagoon is excellent (if you are seated by the windows) Reflections of Earth we viewed from La Hacienda last December with no problem (they also pipe in the audio). Lights are lowered during the fireworks and you can move around for a better view if you are seated away from the windows. Dining at the Inn expect some difficulty viewing the menu if you have a vision problem. The lighting is very low. My family experienced no problems but some of our neighbors did. It is all a matter of choices and expectations. We shall dine at both locations this coming December.

Skip Epcot and go to Frontera Cocina in DIsney Springs. Rick Bayless has spent his entire life perfecting the art of Mexican cuisine and if I'm spending my money somewhere in WDW it's at his restaurant.
We are on the dining plan so I don't want to have to pay out of pocket.

Neither one is overly spicy or hot. We prefer La Hacienda also because we think the menu choices are better, seating isnt as tightly crowded or the room as noisy and the service is more attentive. It has a more relaxing atmosphere. San Angel is much darker, although it does have the volcano background, and you can occasionally get the sound of the mariachi band playing in the background.

Being from Texas and used to tex mex I actually prefer the quick service over both sit down places but I would actually choose the San Angel Inn because it's just more Disney, more unique of an experience, La Hacienda is too much like the typical Mexican restaurant we eat at all the time at home.
