Mexico Pavilion Suggestion

Frankly I really like having a ride that's not super popular like Three Caballeros is, especially since the queue is ENTIRELY inside. I'm not thrilled about the possibility of a popular movie overlay... Although at least Coco is actually Mexican and not in a fictional country like the neighboring Frozen ride. And it's always a bummer when they decide to do an overlay rather than making a whole new attraction.

I'm confused. Don't they already do that?

Sort of. One of the laments of many who have been to the "original" EPCOT is the dumbing down and homoginization of EPCOT.

Most of the food and drink served in the various countries are very "safe" foods. Nothing too different to most Americans. Most of the attractions and exhibits where you would actually learn something about the country have been changed to movie tie in's, have been left to age ungracefully, or have been changed to merchandise shops. But hey, Frozen, Coco, and rows upon rows of Gummi Bears are what people want, so that's what people get.

I really hope they leave it alone. I know it's not the original Rio Del Tiempo, but the current version is great in terms of having a tie-in to a very old and VERY interesting movie (Three Caballeros and Saludos Amigos) which, as others have pointed out, is quite unusual for Disney. It also does a really good job of presenting various parts of a very big country (Mayan pyramid, Xochimilco, Mexico City, Acapulco, etc...) and making it all flow well together.

Maybe one day Disney will serve authentic food and beverage at each country. Maybe have a festival around it.
Speaking of being authentic. We were eating at the Italian Restaurant and the waitress brought out bread and poured Olive Oil onto a dish for us to dip our bread in. We asked where that tradition came from since we have done it in other Italian restaurants. She said it isn't done in Italy. Hah so much for authenticity.

I have a suggestion. The Mexico Pavilion needs more kinetics and more color. My solution would be to add more of those paper bunting celebration flags and convert the Pre-Columbian (Mayan?) pyramid into a waterfall with water rushing down the steps of the pyramid into a wishing well style basin below it. (this would also prevent climbers) Mexican culture is rich and lively. It's kind of a shame the main architectural icon of the Pavilion is monochromatic. Needs kinetics and color!
