I need some advise,my family and I were eating at the Rainforest cafe by the AK.Half way through dinner I noticed a long piece of metal in my chicken dish.Manager come over and told me it looked like a piece of the frier basket WOW.I got my dish for free.My problem is why wasnt the families dinner comped? How can and should my family still eat there dinner after what they saw?I got a call from rainforest rep and she told me it was a part of a wire grill cleaner,YUCK!,that info made me feel worse.Should I feel that they owe my family a new dinner,or should I leave it alone?

There was no metal in their food, why would they get a free dinner?

Try getting a piece of glass in your pasta at Carabbas and cutting your lip. I was fortunate enough to receive a lot more than what you received, but I had a nice lawsuit on my hands if I wanted to act. But decided considering it didn't get infected, not to milk the cow. I ended up with 100 dollar gift card and a comped dinner as well. Also a call from corporate every month to check up on me...

They do not owe the entire party free food. I once was eating a chicken wrap at the Rainforest Cafe here and found the kitchen ticket all wrapped up inside :hurl: They wanted to give me a free dessert, but I lost my appetite...never went back again :zipit:

I once a while back dated a girl who got wire grill brush in her quesadilla and ended up eating it. It resulted in emergency surgery in order to remove it...needless to say there was more than a free meal involved of course. With your story, it is a fine line. You are lucky you didn't eat it, and it was good they gave you something. I think that if you said something more, you would have gotten the entire meal and then some for free. If you are still concerned enough about this, contact Landry's directly. Odds are you will get some free coupons or something if you do that.

About 5 or so years ago my hubby and I along with my hubbys cousin and his wife went to dinner at Houlihans (a chain restaurant/bar). We have eaten here many many times and never had a problem until that night. Hubbys cousins wife was eating a chicken ceasar salad (a huge bowl) and was just about finished with it when she noticed something odd at the bottom of the bowl. At first I thought it was just a really overcooked piece of chicken, it was hard to tell at first because it was covered in cesar salad dressing. Turns out it was a cricket, dead of course:eek:. That sucker was huge! Anyway we showed it to the waiter who then got the manager. The manager appologized profusely and gave us her entire meal for free (including appitizers and drinks) and gave us all free dessert. He explained that the salad comes to them prewashed and bagged, all they do is dump it in a large bin and serve as needed so that must be where the cricket came from. We all found it hysterical but she was more than a little grossed out because she had eaten almost all of the salad before she discovered the bug.

I think when something like this happens, the company shoud go above, not beoynd whats required. I think they could have given you another free dinner for your next visit.

Not metal - but when I went to Boma for breakfast - there was about 4 strands of hair in the eggs on the buffet line. I do not know if it is from the consumers or someone who made the dish because it was a buffet but it turned me off from the buffet. I told the manager and dish was quickly replaced.

I think it's really funny that you mention that because I went to a Houlihans (I think at a mall) in New Jersey years ago and there were crickets literally crawling on and under our table. We completely lost our appetite and left. It was disgusting.

years ago, my father had a spring in his mashed potatoes at Narcoosees- a large metal spring. They did comp our entire meal- but not just b/c of the spring- we waited over an hour and a half for our ADR, a soup arrived freezing cold, I ordered a salad for my entree that tasted like salt was dumped all over it. It was simply the spring that broke the camel's back. For just teh spring, I think they would have comped the one dish and we would have been fine with that.

Years ago while a cash strapped college student, I was on spring break in Daytona
Beach.

My friends and I were eating at an IHOP and I had some fried shrimp plate. Something like 18 fried shrimp or so. I ate them, and as I picked up the last one, there was a big dead ant under it. The waitress just happend to come by and asked how the food was. I said "good, except for that ant there". They comped my entire meal. My friends were extremely jealous - they all wanted ants so they could eat for free as well. :)

Ah, yes... The perfect 'comped meal' scenario!

The worst experience I've seen was when I waited on a young couple at a restaurant that went out of busienss (for good reason) soon afterward. This was after I had already given my two weeks' notice to quit.

First, one of their plastic water cups had a small leak, so there was water pooling on the table. Okay, clean that up, get them a new cup. So far, no big problem.

Second, their table falls over, onto the floor. (The employees would drag the tables around instead of lifting them, so the legs of many of them eventually became unstable.) The couple was somewhat bothered by this, but they didn't have their food yet, and weren't injured, so they could still laugh it off.

Then, after getting their food, a roach runs across the woman's plate. That's when they got up and left. But believe it or not, they paid their bill at the front desk, and the manager accepted their money. Totally classless on his part.
