Just got a nice note from Mr. Iger discussing the future of Disney. He shares his three strategies as:

1) Creating quality and innovative content that continues to differentiate Disney as best-in-class
2) Deploying cutting-edge technologies to showcase our content for early competitive advantage while enhancing the customer experience
3) Expanding and adding depth to our global presence, particularly in emerging markets

with his closing sentence as follows:

We are very mindful that Disney is not "just another company," but an enterprise with a unique set of branded assets that are measured by millions of people the world over. Looking ahead, I am confident that we have everything it takes - the talent, experience and sense of purpose-to continue Disney's strong track record of success.

I got one too....I thought it was a personal response to my concerns that I had voiced prior to him taking over.

I feel so hurt now.

I'm not special... No letter.

I'll be in the corner staring at the wall if anyone needs me!

You are special...just look into the mirror and say (as Stuart Smiley would say) -

"I'm good enough, smart enough, and dog-gone it, people like me"

:animwink:

I hope Bob didn't spell that wrong in his mailing.

Looks like his head and his heart are in the right place. So far he seems to have made some good decisions. Lets hope the trend to continue.

What did you expect him to say? (Not that he wrote it, but you know what I mean)

"Disney sucks, I hate this job. I can't wait to run this company into the ground!"

I don't think that shareholder letter would go over well.

He has made some good decisions, but also some bad ones. Partnering with Apple wasn't a good move, especially once ipods stop selling, which will be shortly.

I expected him to say exactly what he did say but he has not given me any reason not to trust him as of yet so I will take him at his word. The ray of sunshine I saw in his statement was that he seems to understand what Disney is really about. Sure it is first and foremost a business but for the last few years the company has seemed to have strayed from the philosophies that helped make Disney become what it is today and I for one will be glad to see those things back. But don't get me wrong I am fully aware of the indisputable fact that Eisner was instrumental in saving Disney but he really went dark side those last few years.
I think partnering with Apple was a necessary evil in order to patch things up with Pixar. If things don't work out with Pixar Apple will probably get dropped like a college elective.

Interesting response. It certainly is a lot of fluff (as is to be expected), so it leaves wiggle room but has the correct general sentiments. I think it will take about a year or so to see where his ideas lie. If he is doing things to distance himself from Eisner; if it will be more of the same with fresh spin only, this might not be great. If his statements are his own and he is drawing on his own childhood, experiences, and simple instincts (again, asuming they are in line with the current trends), I think he has huge potential to be his own leader and get away from the "yesman" label that is placed on him and other memebers of the Disney Exec. team that was needed to be successful at Eisner's Disney.
