Also, what is up with the transition from the drop shaft into the unloading area in the original? Why is there luggage inside of an elevator shaft?

I've been behind a few maintenance elevators, primarily thinking of one at a J.C. Penny in Washington where my mother worked, and the elevator is actually exposed in a room that is used for storage. Don't know if that's common, but I've been in rooms exactly like that.
