Merf goes to Epcot (photos!)

Well, Mr. Merf decided to have a day out, doing what all obsessive Disney-lovers do - taking pictures of refurbishment walls!

Our first wall spotted - under the guise of taking a picture of a cute bunny (Hi Mr. bunny! Yes.. he/she is in the pic..) was over near Test Track. The planeters have all sorts of walls taking up lots of space and even the occasional box around the walkways in Future World East.

Next up, the grand demolition of Ice Station Cool as seen from the closed-after-1pm Fountainview Cafe:

Note the Dasani bottle on the trashcan - us obsessive compulsive types gotta keep hydrated! Which brings us on a sentimental journey to the Living Seas:

Considering that pretty entrance mural may not be there in a month, I figured I'd enjoy it for just a bit longer. Progress is a good thing though, no tears, just happy memories :)

The Rest of Future World west qualifies as a bit of a mess... First off, there's a temporary stage set-up just outside the breezeway on the lefthand side (toward imagination - used for garden exhibits during Flower/Garden festival) for the new CyberGroove Band to use. Doesn't Future World West have a stage? Umm, not any more.. The Magic Music Days stage set up along the rear of Innoventions West's exhibition hall (same building as Ice Station and Fountainview) has been closed off and rehab walls are up. The only tell-tale sign of the stage are the lighting rigs.

Also in the West - Imagination has become Wall-Land. The entire upper tier is pretty much walls. From the exit of HISTA to the railing overlooking the monorail and fountains.

Also in Future World West is this bizarre tree with a face - how long has this been there? (Poor lighting, dark dreary rainy Epcot day)

On a brighter note, the Future World East butterfly garden walkway is open to everyone, providing an alternate to walking through MouseGear. (seen from Odyssey bridge)

But, that's not the end of the wall-scouting. A good eye caught this wall in Japan, working on the rear fascade (the surrounding moat was drained too).

And finally, the Stave Church in Norway, which no one ever seems to notice:

That's it for me - enjoy!

Thanks for the update.

Epcot does not look like too much fun to be in right now :p
Thats because all you saw were pictures of construction. Not knocking mousemerfs update I love them I am just staying there are still plenty of construction free areas of Epcot.

I totally forgot to check out the fountains near Journey Into Imagination/HISTK!!!!!! Does anyone know when they are coming down? I'm heading back down in a week and what's great is that everything I missed when I was down July 28-August 3.....I can do on this trip!

woo... i didn't know there was so much work going on at epcot, soon to be more with the living seas going down. but like you said, a little change for those parts would be nice.

What, no ladders?
 you can't have a refurbishment without ladders!

I'm not complaining because I'd rather have them fixing stuff up instead of neglecting it, but for some reason(possibly due to all of the different festivals the park hosts) Epcot seems to have construction walls and tarps up year-round---specifically World Showcase... I can't remember the last time I've walked around an entirely wall/tarp-free WS.

Oh well... Here's to progress! :)

Finding it inadvertantly in a dark sorta dreary moderately deserted theme park was sorta unsettling. I think it's creepy.

I know that a new outdoor foods location is being built behind that construction wall that is next to Test Track.

i know, its on again right now

i had a feeling that monk wasn't actually going to get better, after all, that would mean the end of the series:hammer:
