Like anything, if one is willing to pay for the quality, it will be made that way (one of the announcers from Price is Right years ago always got his fancy jackets over that way, think his were from Thailand but same idea).

Assuming you just mean that there is lots of floor space without racks? And that that isn't just a leftover reaction to trying to keep people spread out while shopping?
Floor fixtures are actively being removed because of lack of stock, it wasn’t part of Covid procedures to remove them.

Made in China doea not mean cheap. Its the company that orders the items responsibility. . Chinese factories use the specs and material the companies ordering specify . Some of the best machines, motors, clothes I ever purchased come from China. j Those 500.00 shirts are made in China, I was surprised fantasic 3000.00 suits made in China too, ordered right from my fitting delivered to the tailor for me to pick up. Only bespoke could be better and made in America on site.

So stop blaming the Chinese factories and start blaming rhe companies that either specify crap or don't do thier quality control. The Chinese government is horrible their people work hard their factories and workers are just as good as anywhere.

If Disnney is selling crap that is because they order crap belive me those exact same factories can make higher quality items, Disney just wants the huge mark up so orders the lower quality. Just as some said the Tshirt might cost 30 more fact is they can get those higherr quality t-shirts for 15 more form China but Dinsy doesn’t want to make less money and knows American would not buy them in the same scale as the cheaper items.. Americans will only pay a certain amount people scream about Chinese crap fact is moat won't pay for the better quality, made on America or made in China at 15% less most Americans at least in the quantity to make Disney the money they want to make want dirt cheap. Material cost what it cost.

It is always the end company fault in whether what they sell is crap not the people that make it for them. It takes a day to say to the factory hey I am not using you any more I am using a different factory, problem is if it's not QC its material quality and that's going to cost more whenever you go. So blame Disney or wherever you purchased from, trust me whoever Disney purchased from wether in China or not did thier job or Disney would stop buying from them.
You are so right. I've seen this with so many companies; not just Disney. Many years ago, I did manufacturing machine controls and companies came to us to save money. We would quote systems with certain uptime capability. Yet, we'd get our specs taken overseas and re-bid with cheaper parts. We'd later get called into fix those very systems once they found out how that cost cutting panned out. Now, had they had the engineering capability, they could have specified -- and received -- the same quality we offered. But, they had no idea on the detail at that level. Similarly, Disney knows how their images look. But, they don't know the quality of the materials they're putting them on. American consumers are responsibile for this though. Are they willing to pay $100 for a pair of blue jeans when they'll last 4x the $40 ones? I think we've already proven we won't.

Happy to report that Mitsukoshi at EPCOT actually sells books! I purchased a modern history of Japan, and was glad to see at least one World Showcase pavilion selling literature about the country. I always felt each country should have a small retail space dedicated to selling non-fiction titles about the country’s history and culture.

While I can’t complain too much about a trip to WDW, I will say it’s a bit sad to be ending a trip without having bought a single coffee mug or dated Christmas ornament. Both are usually must-dos for us, but we didn’t see any mugs or ornaments worth buying anywhere.

You know there are plenty of small towns that would love to get back to manufacturing. Those towns that built this country. So yes, Disney, pay attention and do a little work and go find them and you can bring back some if not all of your outsourcing to China back to the U.S. affordably. You have to do the work and go find them but they are there! Everyone has become so lazy!
Agree 100% there was a time we made things, and you could earn decent living working at blue collar jobs. Then companies moved all these factories off shore. What did that accomplish yes the companies paid less wages made more money. However those goods brought back to the US were slightly cheaper but people don't realize it actually costing more when you factor in all those people out of jobs are either unemployed (collect government assistance --payed by tax payers) or working minimum wage jobs. Sorry not everyone can be a doctor, a lawyer, CEO. Destroy the middle class you destroy our economy. Disney you need the middle-class =my 2 cents

Not only the lower wages in China which means higher profits for US companies but there are workers in China working 3 shifts 24/7 and even living in dormitories on factory premises away from their families to also increase productivity on many items made in China bound for many countries in the world. That will perhaps never happen if work moved back to the USA.

The tech industry is like that too( my previous industry) IT is the last industry I would go into unless it's a government position. Just look at Disney's IT lol

Whether you were looking forward to it or not, here's some silly merch report from Friday, 12/10/21:
Pin store under SSE looked normal:

"Camera center" on the opposite side from SSE felt empty but I really can't recall everything they ever sold here so it's probably normal:

Seas didn't feel as cramped to exit:

Mitsukoshi was definitely feeling bare. Lots of merch stretched across shelving to fill space and I believe a few floor units were removed:

Lets start off with some ultra-wide shots of Creations:

I assume Halloween merch to fill a gap:

To the right of that...you want a Remy mug? Or 100? How about a chefs hat?
yX9CGjk.jpg

You sure you don't want a chefs hat?

Fine...last offer...these are going fast!!
dvAVAlQ.jpg

For being the "big" Disney store, Creations felt bare with so many duplicate items toss to fill gaps. Of course, I never saw the store on day 1 so this could be normal but seeing Remy, halloween, and Star Wars merch jammed in random areas makes me think it's not...

There are multiple reasons. One is a lack of truck drivers -- there's stuff that's unloaded but can't be moved because they don't have any available drivers, which means it's sitting at the port and taking up space that's now unavailable to unload new containers, and so on. There are a bunch of chokepoints slowing everything down.

Not only the lack of truck drivers, the big problem as I understand it, is that the tough rules and regs in California and enroute through other states, is a deterrent to truckers.
All the states need to hold up on these restricting rules and regs until this mess gets worked out. It's just ridiculous! I believe more drivers could be hired IF they could actually drive their trucks without all this "stuff" getting in the way.
Otherwise, I fear we will all be out of goods until someone in government has the *****s to do something!

Off topic a bit but looking at the pics reminds me of how generic the stores look anymore. You could have taken those pictures in Walmart and I would have thought it was. Remember the 70’,80’s and 90’s? It was actually fun walking into something unique. My “get off my lawn” old man is coming out. I apologize.

Easy to blame CA , but there are states that only allow 21 years and up to drive cross country. 18-20 year old truckers can only drive in state but if allowed they can drive out of state to get to CA to pick up containers. Trucker shortage issues could be better resolved in this matter.

I actually got the pictures of Creations and Mitsukoshi flipped when I was uploading them...

I like the SSE stores quite a bit. They have the uniqueness of Epcot in them so they're fine in my book.

Creations...great in most parts, boring in some others. I never cared for the theme of MouseGear, always looks so sloppy and messy. Creations needs something else to set it apart. Could it be as simple as replacing Mickey with another character that is Epcot? Do something unique with the ceiling lighting? No idea. The little Epcot branded displays with the weird mannequins are fine and fit regardless of how strange they may look.

The Seas just looks bad in everyway. It's blue. No theming. Just blue with a lattice ceiling. In the middle of an exit.

It looks like the exit gift shops of other aquariums, just full of Disney merch instead of books and science based activity kits (among other things).

The problem, of course, is that the Seas wasn't supposed to be a simple aquarium. I wonder if there was a shop there when it was the Living Seas? It wouldn't surprise me if there was, but I don't remember.

Did I say one single word about China? *Checks post* No, I did not. So you can get off your high horse and stop trying to lecture me or anyone else about manufacturing. I'm versed enough in business processes to know that inputs need to be of high quality to produce outputs of similar. This is 100% on Disney for choosing to use lower-quality material. I have shirts from Target that have lasted longer than shirts purchased at WDW/DL.

I have stopped in both locations clothing made in China. Both are still in good condition.

Not blaming California. I said other states enroute, too.
But it is no secret that California has many more restrictions for cars, for instance, than other states. Just the way it is.
The point is that ALL the restrictions that are holding truckers and companies back from transporting these items should be put on hold until all the merchandise is distributed, then back to normal for everyone.

I believe it was but was much smaller? I could be wrong. Remember, we had the Hydrolators in that area.
