Tomorrow, as you go to the beach, or on a picnic, or have a cook-out, or just lie around enjoying your day off, I'd like you to take a moment to remember all of the brave men and women who have given their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that too many of us take for granted. If you know a living vet, take a moment to say thanks; a visit to any cemetary will show you the final resting place of so many....placing a flower on a "forgotten" grave or two would be a thoughtful gesture. Enjoy your holiday, but don't forget it's meaning!

Tramp, here's a special thank you, and a big hug, from me to you! You too, Coronado!

and when you see the red and yellow ribbon on one of the Viet Nam veterans.....be sure to say "Welcome Home".... they forgot to say that to us in San Francisco when we got back.... they just wanted to spit at us and yell obsenities.......

I can only feel admiration for all those who went to war...
It should be really hard to leave your home and family to go fight, and those memories you have I´m sure are not very pleasant to remember.
To all of you, my sincere admiration from here... :)

God Bless then ALL!

Yes, The Mom. There are lots of young men and women and old men and women around the world defending our way of life. I salute all of them and those that went before!

My grandfater was injured in WWII while serving overseas....he's long since passed away, but I always say an extra prayer in hopes somebody points it his way.

...in special memory of Rooster's Dad

"Don't Weep For Me"

Please don't weep for me...
I died for what I believed in...
to keep my family and country free.

I was only eighteen when I left for war,
not long after I was on a distant shore.
I left behind a wife and son,
now I carry c-rations and a gun.

I've stared death straight in the eye,
I've seen many young men come here only to die.
They didn't run, they didn't hide,
They fought for what they believed
and they fought with pride.

Here I am in this far off land
with a 40 pound pack and an M-16 in hand,
trudging through mud and rice paddies
thinking how many children back home
must miss their daddys.

My own young son now weeps for me,
he doesn't understand that I died to keep his land free,
nor does he understand why his mommy's so sad
he's been through so much for such a young lad.

Maybe someday there will be no need for wars,
no need to send young men to distant shores,
no more maiming and killing for reasons unknown
no more leaving a family and loved ones alone.

Please don't weep for me...
I died for what I believed in...
to keep my family and country free.

(author unknown)

Rest in Peace, my brothers.

I think that anyone who is from my generation who doesn't understand should be shipped to Washington DC for a few days.......

I was able to visit the vietnam memorial after dark one night.....even though I can never imagine what they went through, I read the letters, and saw the pictures of people who were loved. My heart reached out not only for them, but for their families who still suffer without them.

Tramp, I look upon you as a father figure to me.....you kick me in the when i need it sometimes. I thank you for that. If not for you, sometimes I'd forget some things in life that should never be forgotten :)

I'll be marching in a parade, and after there is a ceramony at the cemetary. It's really sad, cuz they play taps and stuff.

Thanks to all that serve our country!!!!

I went to a museum place in yorkshire last year which used to be a prisoner of war camp for italian and german prisoners in WWII. After the war some of the italians went back and converted it to a 'working museum' sort of thing. I would recommend a visit to this place for anybody in britain. Very powerful stuff.

By all means, remember those who have payed the ultimate sacifice for freedom in this country, as well as other countries abroad.

My wife's uncle was killed in Korea. Her father was in Korea and in an Army demolition unit. He never talked about what he saw.

My own father was a 20 year navy man. He was with the carriers when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He had a small blue-gray spot on his back, about 1/8 inch in diameter. I asked him once what that was. He said it was some shrapnel that the ship's doctor didn't have time to remove. He never said how he got it.

A blessing to all veterans, both gone and still with us. A grateful nation salutes you.

My grandfather served twice in Vietnam & spent 25 years in the Army. I also have 2 cousins currently in the Navy (one of which has been actively involved in the current situation) & countless friends who are/have served with the armed forces. I have absolutely nothing but the utmost respect, admiration & appreciation for our military forces & there are no words to thank them enough for all they do for this country.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!!!!!!!

i marched in a parade today. it was very different from when i did the parade last. there were two ceremonies my band was involved in, one at a cemetary and one at veterans point. my grandpa came and it was really nice to see how he reacted since he is a veteran. it was a very thing to see.
