Meet The Robinsons

Um...I think you may be thinking of Dory. There's no Doris anywhere in Finding Nemo. And furthermore, I don't really remember any lines referencing anything Pixar-related...
I'm guessing that the OP took the line "Little Doris sleeps with the fishes" to be a Finding Nemo reference.

Here's some odd news-

Yahoo.com has just reported the estimate's for this week's box office, and Blades of Glory came out #1. Are you telling me that dumb comedy was able to beat Meet the Robinsons. If these estimates are correct, I predict that "Blades" will plummit next week, while Meet the Robinsons stays close to the top.

Will Ferrell is a pretty popular guy these days and the kids like that Jon Heder guy, so it's not that surprising. Now if "Norbit" was #1...

I loved the movie! Absolutely loved it! Me and my brothers laughed until we were crying, literally! The Tom Selleck gag, he is actually in the movie as someone, the animal with grandpa. The dinner scene. It was hilarious. It does seem to be a tribute to Walt and Disney announcing with trumpets blaring and guns a' blazing its back to kick some names and take some !:sohappy:
The King has returned.

All in all it has to be one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. Hilarious, touching, fun and just a lot of fun.

I would have changed my signature to the quote but too many people already have shoot.

I'm not surprised Blades of Glory took the top spot. Maybe Meet the Robinsons will have more staying power, though. Parents were already a little critical of Disney after its last offerings, so some of them may have been holding off to see how other parents feel about it (and I'd imagine most were pretty happy with it). The next two weeks are Spring Break weeks for the K-12 crowd, so MTR may do well during that time. I hope it does...loved the film! It had real heart, and that's been lacking, recently.

The new Walt Disney Pictures intro in 3D is just gorgeous...

Loved it!!

I just got back from seeing the 3D version of MTR and I loved every minute of it. It truly felt that Walt Disney Feature Animation is starting to get back into the swing of things. Now, as much as I WANT to believe that this film was an homage to Walt himself, it is a twisted and exapanded retelling of William Joyce's "A Day With Wilber Robinson." Yes the entire family story line is a bit different, as well as the certain "quirks" that the family members have (as the grandfather is the frog conductor in the story). I believe that it was a wonderful way to pay homage to Walt at the end (it was the actual point where I did lose it), but I wouldn't say that the entire presentation was done to pay homage to Walt himself.

I saw the 3D movie on opening night with my Campus Rep Team, our Recruiter (Andy), and a former Campus Rep. Yeah, we have bias but we all loved it. We loved the classic short film, the theme park reference, pixar/disney references, hidden mickeys and the quote at the end! It really gives the company a sense of tradition. Several theaters in the area were sold out for the 3D shows... not sure about 2D.

Looks like Lasseter and crew are steering this ship in the right direction. Oh, and Ratatoullie looks like it could be amazing.

PS. A 'Meet the Robinsons' attraction in Tommorland would be great. Who is gonna start the petition?

EDIT: Was anyone else let down that there was no "At World's End" 3D trailer?

What are you referring to as Disney's last offerings? Do you mean Bridge to Teribithia? Because that was really popular. It stayed in the Top 10 Box Office for the longest time.

But I think MTR will be extremely popular over the Easter holiday.

Can't wait until I see this film. :)

I'm kind of disappointed that it only opened up with 25 million. That seems kind of .... low. I'm pretty sure Chicken Little opened up with a lot more than that and that was a horrible movie. Oh well.

One thing I'm tired of Disney doing ( and many other movie studios as well ) is selling their animated movies as "the comedy event of the year." First of all, its balantly copying the Shrek formula. Second, usually films that advertise themselves as this turn out to be crap. Third, what happened to emotional and character driven masterpieces with a some good humor thrown in rather than centering around humor like Lion King, or Beauty and the Beast? I REALLY miss animated films like those.

As for MTR, ehh... I'm not interested. Ever since I saw the T-Rex dancing to hip hop music in the TV ad, I was completely turned off.

Don't be there is nothing like that in the movie. No hippity hop music lol.

As for the comedy thing, yeah you've got a great point. Hopefully The Frog Princess will be more like the other ones like Beauty and the Beast. I'm really sick of Shrek.

Saw Robinsons again on Sunday night, this time in regular ol' two dimensions. I will say that I enjoyed it more, knowing what to expect. Instead of focusing on the plot, I was able to look at more of the little details in the characters and the backgrounds, which was actually rather nice. Anyone else look at the little posterboard presentations the kids had at the Science Fair? Notice the "Movies" one that read "3D: Favorite or Fad"? Thought that was interesting. One thing I wall say about seeing it in 3D versus the regular version is that the 3D glasses darken the colors. It was a noticeably more vibrant without those puppies on.

Oh yeah, and that license plate was "2DBB203". Draw from it what you will.

um...Meet the Robinsons is this. I didn't think it was hilarious. It had some funny parts but it was mostly about endearing characters and a plot that had heart to it. There are definitely some "awwww" moments and I don't go "awwww" very often. One should not speak poorly of a film he has not seen. That would be like criticizing the Haunted Mansion refurbishment before it even starts...

I saw a picture from one of the scenes in Meet the Robinsons.

I saw a topiary of a T-Rex.

Does anyone think that is a reference to the T-Rex topiary outside of the Universe of Energy/Ellen's Energy Adventure in Epcot?

See Meet the Robinsons Imagineer Boy. Just because the marketing is crap doesn't mean the movie is. It's easily become one of my favorites. It even puts quite a bit of focus onto a Walt quote. See it, I know you'll like it. That or I'll force the bowler hats on you...

Hmmm...that's odd, no one has brought up the Aladdin tribute/rip off (call it what you want, but it smacked me in head when it happened).

I was thinking about the license plate...it could be that they plan on releasing the next 2D film on February 3rd. Who knows.... ya know 2-03.

Well, I am going to go see the movie tonight so sometime soon (probably tomorrow) I will post what I thought.
