Anyone know if they ever figured out what was causing more people to complain of being/feeling sick after riding the Hollywood version of the Forbidden Journey ride? I know they said the ride was an exact copy of the Florida version, but they couldn't figure out why more individuals/employees were feeling sick afterwards.

It isn't an exact copy. Hollywood's has a different motion profile, more dementors and 3D film sequences, so some will react to it differently.

I rode it before they received the final glasses and it was a blurry mess, could easily see how people were getting sick from it (I was right on the border, but thankfully never crossed over both times I rode!). Anyone know if the final glasses have made a difference?

I'm not a scientist/doctor, but I really think the rapid speed in which your eyes had to adjust focus between 3D video and physical sets (unlike Spidey which is a lot slower, relatively speaking, and you're primarily looking at a screen) had a lot to do with this.

I think the 3D was a bad choice. It's not particularly great 3D, it makes the CGI look cheap, and wreaks havoc with the lighting of show scenes. While I like the minor upgrades to the ride vs IOA, I much prefer it without 3D.

Never been on the one out east, but I would have much preferred 2D. In addition to the reasons you mentioned, the glasses were also a distraction and made the whole thing less immersive for me.

Monday seems to be off to a stronger start despite today also being a block-out date for the many cheapo AP holders like myself. FJ is currently a 120 minute wait. Curious to see how things look once the morning rush has dissipated!

Note: Interestingly enough, the wait dropped to 90 minutes right after I hit submit on this post! It's entirely possible I had Thursday still cached in my browser. o_O

E.T. went bye-bye years ago.

The star attraction of the park is the studio tour. There's nothing else like it at any of the other Universal parks.

I am an amateur costume designer (read : "costume nerd"), and I took the backlot Universal studio tour back around 2007. I got so excited when I saw the signs for "Edith Head's" costume area. I just about had a cow !! They almost had to restrain me...I was craning around and trying to see inside (no luck). She is on my personal "greats" list !!

For us tourists this would have played out much differently if they'd opened it either the same year or within a year of the Orlando WWoHP and marketed it better in California. The only person I know here who mentioned it (he happens to be a DL fan) thought the local Hollywood WWoHP TV ads were for the Florida version. lol

I feel you! I reacted the same way when we passed Alfred Hitchcock's previous office. Awesome.

As of 1:40pm the wait times are as follows at Universal Studios that is open 10am to 6pm today;

Forbidden Journey - 35 Minutes
Tram Tour - 30 Minutes (last tram at 4:15)
Flight of the Hippogriff - 20 Minutes
Despicable Me - 15 Minutes
Transformers, Mummy, JP - 10 Minutes

In Anaheim right now according to the offiicial wait time app, where both parks are open 9am to 9pm today;

Racers - 75 Minutes
Luigi's - 40 Minutes
Soarin' - 40 Minutes
Grizzly - 35 Minutes
Midway Mania - 45 Minutes
Hyperspace Mt. - 60 Minutes
Submarines - 45 Minutes
Splash Mt. - 45 Minutes
Indy Jones - 45 Minutes
Peter Pan - 40 Minutes
Roger Rabbit - 40 Minutes
Matterhorn - 35 Minutes
Pirates - 30 Minutes
Small World - 30 Minutes
Mansion - 25 Minutes
30 Other Rides - 15 to 30 Minutes

The spring break crowds are obviously dying away since those are some of the lowest wait times in the last month, and the parks now close earlier at 9pm this week.

The point? I don't have one, except that TDA has absolutely nothing to worry about with Harry Potter taking attendance away from Disneyland Resort. Who should be worried is Knott's and Sea World and Legoland and all those other places that compete for the fourth or fifth day of a vacation for tourists in SoCal.

Sounds like a rather pleasant day at USH. I should take a day off this week.

It's also important to note that the capacity of USH is MUCH smaller than DL, even DCA. It is a VERY small park.

I agree about the fact that Disney shouldn't be worried. That's what makes comments like this regarding the pace of the construction of Star Wars at DL (from today's MiceAge update) seem a bit silly.

"The speedy pace is indicative of Disney’s desire to get the massive new land built and open as soon as possible to compete with Universal Hollywood‘s newly-opened Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is expected to get the much-celebrated Diagon Alley expansion very soon."

LOL... so the reason the construction pace in SW Land is moving so quickly is because Disney is worried about Diagon Alley? Is that expansion even confirmed?

Universal was expecting a much bigger turnout and because of the low turnout they went way over budget this weekend. I know someone who works for the company and they told me that it seemed like there were more staff than guest. Projection for Sunday was 31,000 but at the end of the day only reached 12,500.

This is a failure. They've marketed the weekend for a while now. This should be a big wake up call to the theme park industry. Stop cloning stuff. They should have at least opened Diagon Alley up too. Potter fans have had almost 9 years to save up. I'm sure most of them have been now or saving to go to Orlando to do both lands. I wasn't allowed to read/watch Potter but I'm sure more than two areas they could have done.

I'm sure the crowds will come this summer but I'm pretty sure if they had something exclusive to USH they would have came for the grand opening.

Oh, geez, I missed that quote this morning. I love Mr. Castro's photography each week, but his commentary is often so juvenile and/or catty and/or delusional. As if Disney cares one whit about the next simulator-ride-in-a-box that Universal Studios is going to add to their tiny park that after five years of mega-buck expansion now has only seven (7) rides, no sit-down restaurants, no parades, no fireworks, and no nighttime water show.

Nor does Universal Hollywood have any real physical ability to add any of that stuff, aside from a few additional rides and a decent restaurant.

Yikes.

At 4:15pm today Forbidden Journey has fallen to a 15 minute wait, the Hippogriff coaster is 5 minutes. Although the three rides on the Lower Lot; Transformers, Mummy and Jurassic Park have now bumped up to 15 minutes. Obviously the Lower Lot has the "crowd" migrate down there in the afternoon.

Disneyland's and DCA's wait times for the 40+ rides operating today are now ranging between 30 and 60 minutes. Hyperspace Mountain is still 75 minutes.

Remember this image of people lining up to enter USO to check out WWoHP on opening day? There were reports of 8 hour waits to get into the new themed land back then. :jawdrop:

I thought Diagon Alley was going to replace the Mummy coaster. I don't know how they could do the Hogwarts express except as a go nowhere simulator. I don't think they are allowed to do fireworks due to the surrounding very rich neighborhood. The best I can see them do is turning Water World into a Fantasmic type show. Any more expansion would mean eating away at the Studio Tour.
