McDonald's Ain't Your Kind of Place

I think that film is something that Americans really need to see. We are way to dependent on fast food, but don't think about the effects it has on our body. I like that he kept up with the medical aspect along with the weight issue. Perhaps after seeing this, more people will begin to eat a little more healthy.

The article reminded me of a story I read about in Sports Illustrated about Mr. Fitness himself, Jack LaLane.

The man is pushing 90 and still works out every morning from 5 -7 a.m. He hits the weights for the first hour and swims the second. He claims not to have had any sweets since he was a teenager and can do 100 push-ups without "turning pink".

I believe it too because he looks better than a man 1/3 his age. Check out his measurements:

  • Height: 5'4"
  • Chest: 46"
  • Waist: 31"

I would love to see this movie. I would NEVER eat in a McDonalds. All they serve is garbage. On a related note, I wish Disney would sever their ties with them and take those damn fries out of the park.

thank you...have a nice day :)

I have to say this really suprised me. We all know high fat food is bad for us, but I never thought it could take over so quickly. I've tried to make better food choices lately to improve my health....now I know why I always feel sluggish after eating at fast food places.

EWWWWWWW! That's so bad! I've cut my kids down to once a week, Monday nights when we have dance class at 4:45 and I've been busy all day. Now I'm thinking that that may be too often!

That's how it is here too Christy. Skating class from 5:15 to 6:30 each Tuesday night. We used to do the fast food thing afterwards, but now I make something a couple of nights before that will have leftovers and I just heat that up on Tuesday nights.

Burger King's been making some improvements lately...the BK Veggie totally rocks & has 1/2 the calories, 1/4 the fat, and 1/10th the saturated fat of a Whopper. And those Baguette thingies are pretty low in calories and fat, too (but superhigh in sodium. Go fig.). You might want to look at the Burger King Nutrition chart and see if the family likes some of the not-gonna-kill-you-quite-as-fast stuff until you find the recipes you're looking for.

Thanks! Everybody seems to be making an effort to go lower fat & quite a few places are going low carb ( a must for me), but I doubt we will really find "healthy" fast food anytime soon.

Since I tend to micro-manage the finances; McDonalds only happens once a month, or every other month. My boys have discovered PB&J! Some quick things I do: I like to buy diced chicked and make fajitas; baked potatoes in the microwave; or my husband like the create-a-meals. We have also been cooking for the week on weekends. On Saturday, Don will put a big pot of white (or red) beans on the stove and cook it all morning. Then on Sunday, I'll get in the kitchen and cook a roast and all the side dishes. We usually don't have to cook until Thursday, and we'll make Manwich or something else really quick.
I know what y'all mean about those hectic days; The first two weeks of the month, our business is such we don't get home until 6 or 7pm. Luckily, my husband is more handy than I in the kitchen. He is also truly from the 'old school' where he has supper on the stove at 10am. I prefer to wait until 3 or 4 to get started.

Yummy!

My kids are picky and seem to be in a rut...last night we just couldn't decide. It wasn't a busy day, but nobody had any ideas. We ended up making our own dinners...3 different things. When I cook I always plan extra as my DH works 13 hr. shifts & is only home for dinner on his days off (so leftovers become his lunch & dinner at work). His not being here is a HUGE part of the problem. When he is home I cook a "proper" meal...something I need to get back to. He is a good cook (though a little out of practice) and will often step in to make dinner. The other week he made a cheese souffle...something I would never even try!
(got to keep him away from the cooking channel. :D )

Sometimes on busy evenings, we just do a "soup and sandwich" night. The kids seem to like that and soup is very good for you.

On the nights you do cook a big meal and it's something that will freeze well, make extra to put in the freeze for those busy nights.

One of my favorite cookbooks is the Betty Crocker one. It has really good recipies and the ones that are quick to prepare are labled that way (as are the low fat ones).

Pizza is always another healthy option (though not for all the time), but it does cover all the food groups and it's something that most everyone loves.

when I have to go to Fast Food, I try to stick to Cici's, Subway or Chik-Fila... if I HAVE to have a fast food burger, Wendy's or Backyard Burger.

I haven't had McDonalds since December, and that was cause with all the shopping traffic that was the only place I could turn onto.

Wendy's is definately my favorite of all fast food places. I love their salads. The only Subway by us is located in a Mobil gas station. :hurl:

"Soup & a slice" is a favorite meal, but I can only have one or the other. I HATE low carb (medical reasons, not vanity).
I've started getting 2 cooking magazines- Quick Cooking & Light & Tasty- they both have some really great ideas...now to convince the kids.
