If we go on 2 trips a year for 7 nights at a time at deluxe resorts, would we save money by joining the Vacation Club?

Well for arguement sake, 2 7-night trips to Beach Club for 2 during the value season is just over $7000 each year. This is for rooms and ultimate park hopper tickets.

To stay in Beach Club Villas Studio room for 2 weeks will cost you about 210 DVC points per year. Your initial purchase of 210 DVC points will probably be at Saratoga Springs at $95 a point. So $19,950 to get into the club for the next 49 years. Plus there is a yearly due of about $4.50 per point, so $945 a year in dues. Add to that about $600 for 2 discounted Annual Passes.

So assuming you'll go 2 weeks a year for the next 49 years, your yearly amoratized cost is only about $2000.

This is a VERY rough estimate, but yes you save a TON of money in the long run with DVC. The downside is the high initial cost (which can be financed). But if you think you'll be going a lot over the next 30-40 years, its certainly worth looking into. Contact Disney for more info or go to http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/dvc.htm

No. It's a waste of money. Buy as you go. Don't buy a long term lease that will decline in value.

Moustronaut had a great post. Let me add more too it.

If you stay at one of the DVC Deluxe resorts, (Villas) then yes it is great. Not as good of a deal to spend your points at Con, Poly, GF or AKL.

In addtion to saving money over the long run, the rooms are much better. Depending on the amount of points you buy you can get a studio (same as a standard size room, but one bed, sleeper sofa and a mini kicten, very good for couples.) To one bedrooms (a bedroom with a king size bed, jacuzi tub, shower, then a room with a full size kicthen, washer and dryer, sleeper sofa, table and chairs and 25 inch TV with DVD player (some still only have VCR, they are slowly changing over.) There are 2 bedrooms (a studio, plus a one bedroom) and even Grand Villas (3 bedrooms)

In addtion there are 2 off prop beach resorts you can go to that are great. Same Disney quaility and fun, just at the beach.

Also you can trade points in for countless other resorts and trips around the world (and DL and DCL).

Rooms cost more points on the weekend, so you can save some buy staying at a different resort Fri Sat (or pay cash using AP discount.) There is even a cash discount for DVC members staying at DCV resorts. This is a bit of work admittily.

Also DVC resorts do not have normal mouse keeping. You can pay for it if you want. I personally like it this way since I feel the housekeeping is disruptive. If it is real important to you DVC as good a deal.

We are going to BCV this winter for a trip. Our friends are going with us and staying in BC, paying cash (with discounts.) They are paying MUCH more then us. I wish we had enough points so we could sell or give them some for the trip.

I am really glad we did join when we did. I was laid off last year and had a new baby, so now a stay at home mom. With DVC already paid for we don't need to cut back on our vacations to save money.

Beware, DVC is addictive, once you do join you always want more points!

I disagree, Woody. The cost of resort rooms raises much faster than the yearly fees. It has yet to decline in value. It also has excellent trade out value.

Oh no

The wrong thread? NOT the wrong Thread?? ? Where is Speck with his criticism when you need him. Better hope he doesn't see this. He might have to tell you how, when, where, to post this thread. Just kidding with ya, but if you know Speck, you'll understand why I post this.

Why start a thread drift to personally attack someone who hasn't even posted here? If you and Speck are having problems, try settling it over PM.

Edit: Well, he HADN'T posted when I went to reply, anyway.

Knock it off Hennie. If you have a problem with posting in the correct forum, then take it up with Steve and tell him his policy needs to be changed to suit your needs. You are minimizing and making a mockery out of Steve's repeated requests to post in the correct forum.

Was that really necessary? Why couldn't you just let it go? Is this an example of your values? Stirring the pot when there is nothing in it?

Yes, I do know Speck and frankly I don't understand where this personal animosity on your part is coming from. Speck merely pointed out in that last thread that the poster had placed his thread in the wrong section. Then you and others attack him for merely pointing it out.

And now you attack him again here in another thread that is TOTALLY unrelated to the last you speak off. Really. I always find it amusing when people get their jollies off by coming onto these boards and attacking people for merely being helpful. It only speaks volumes about what their real lives are like. :snore:
