Trip Report MAY THE SPORK BE WITH YOU!!! - a Kid-Free F&W Trip Report

Hi all!!! Well, we’re back from our 6 kid-free days at WDW (yes, much sadness), but now I at least get to share our trip with all of you! If you’re new to my trip reports, my name is Sandy. I did a pre-trip report for this one, but it wasn’t exactly my best work…i.e. I neglected it much of the time. Bad Sandy! Oh well, the real report will be significantly better. I swear, this is probably one of my best trips to WDW- EVER!!!

As many of you know…my reports are heavily picture infused things…mainly because I take TONS of pics so you can “walk” along with me. I took close to 4,000 pics this time…some better than others…but all to help paint the full picture of this trip. I will get into all of the pictures and heavy duty Disney stuff, but first a little background on the days leading up to the trip. Sorry- not much in the way of pictures in this portion, but I promise you…there really are TONS of pictures to come.

So, it’s the evening of November 4th and I’m prepping for our departure on November 7th. DH gets home as I’m putting our girls to bed and informed me that his mom was coming by to talk to us. Ok, so I’m now freaking out. His mom was supposed to have the girls stay with her so we could go on vacation, so this didn’t sound good. We’ve also have really bad luck before all of our recent WDW trips. I think we’d all agree that the car accident last year was the worst, but I am starting to think we’re cursed. In any event, my MIL comes by and drops a bit of a bomb on us. It’s really sad and scary stuff…I’m not at liberty to share the details…but from a safety standpoint, we couldn’t have the girls stay with her at her house. Thankfully, she was willing to stay at our house- so the big problem was solved, but now I had to work in time to deep clean the house. I mean, I was planning on a light cleaning…but I had to pack for me as well as for the girls (school day stuff, softball stuff, etc.) + I had to make a birthday cake!

Many of you know me from the Cake Talk thread over in the dining section, but I also make my own custom cakes on the side. My younger one’s bday is Nov 6th, so I had to have a cake the day before we went out of town…and of course she wanted something crazy (gee, I wonder who encourages this kind of madness??? ;) ). She wanted a 'fluffy' killer whale cake…just like her furry Shamu-esque plush named “Shammie.” Thankfully, the cake was fairly easy…well, minus the nearly 7 tubs of black food coloring I needed to achieve black buttercream. So, here’s the finished product as well as a pic with my ‘model.’

Day 1

So, the house is clean, the cake is done and we’re pretty much packed…and it’s after midnight…so, it’s officially our departure day!!! Our flight from Houston Hobby was supposed to take off at 6:15am, so we had to leave the house around 4am. I got about 3 hours of sleep, packed up the car, said good-bye to the girls (who were still in bed- asleep - MIL was in the guest bedroom), and drove to the airport. The roads were dead, but the airport was surprisingly busy. It took a while to get through security, but we at least had a good laugh when checking our bags. The ladies helping us overheard that it was a kid free trip to Disney and they made sure everyone in the area knew we were heading there without the kids. Most of the people just looked really confused, but we got a good laugh.

After DH forgetting to empty his pockets at security and having some minor issues, we make our way out to the gate and wait. Hey, at least it looks like we’re going to be on time.

Boarding and take off are pretty uneventful. I’m utterly exhausted and fall asleep shortly after. I mean, I tend to sleep on planes even when I’m well rested, but this was that uncontrollable … sort of passing out … kind of deep sleep. I didn’t sleep for the entire flight. In fact, I woke up to a lovely cloud filled sky…

15558965649_e7978f5385_z.jpg

Actually, shortly after this pic the clouds started to clear and I could tell we were approaching the Florida coastline…

15124895804_6e5b2f0ec1_z.jpg

Ok, I actually took a series of pics as we approached. I guess this is the air equivalent of people taking pics of the state signs when crossing the state line on a road trip…

15744851845_37271be2ef_z.jpg

I also realized that we were flying over the Tampa/St Pete area. My parents lived just outside of St Pete for a few years after leaving Gainesville and before heading to the Ft. Lauderdale area. I took this pic because I noticed a large pink building right at the coastline. Anyone who knows this area knows this is the Don Cesar hotel. Unfortunately, even when cropping, blowing up and saturating the colors in the pic below…you can’t really see that there’s a big pink hotel…but it’s there- I swear it is!!!

15559691397_a7cb688a40_z.jpg

Now, I really enjoy being able to pick out familiar sites from the air. I regret not having my DSLR out with the telephoto hooked up for this, but you’re just going to have to take my word for it with the pics below. See, I usually can pick out Epcot from the air with no problem- in fact, it's why I intentionally sat us on this side of the plane. I mean, the “Swalphin” is super obvious and SSE kind of stands out. Still, for whatever reason, I couldn’t find them for the life of me. Then I spotted something…something I’ve never noticed before from the air. I’m sitting there thinking, “man, that white blob over there kind of reminds me of Space Mountain.” Then I realize the buildings I’m looking at to the right are BLT and the Contemporary!!! And while it was more a white blip from the air…I could see…THE CASTLE!!! And as my eyes adjusted and started picturing the WDW map in my head, I realized I could see the Poly, the GF, and yes…I was also able to pick out SSE and the Swalphin too! I could see all of this until shortly before landing. Talk about WELCOME HOME!!! I'll share one of these pics, but it's really tough to spot any of this...

15742948251_c0b2b0bf94_z.jpg

I tried cropping and zooming, but it’s still really hard to pick them out…but I swear they are there!
So, landing was uneventful and we were soon ready for the first “ride” of our trip.

15786077812_4d55c3535d_z.jpg

Kind of sad...I am now using the DSLR (vs my phone), but I'm so jittery from excitement that I can't take a decent shot!

I also had temporary amnesia…or magical euphoric memory loss (your pick)…and forgot where to find DME. Of course, the jetways now have it labeled on there…but I guess I also had some selective blindness upon arrival. So, I sucked it up, went to Information, and got directions to DME. I was kind of embarrassed, but clearly I needed the help. At least the info was correct…

15786075722_8f80bceeb0_z.jpg

As we get down to the ground level and start heading towards the DME area, I start seeing DME and DCL buses…and I’ll admit it, I got kind of misty. Thankfully, DH didn’t notice because I would have been mocked considerably. We had our magic bands on, so getting through everything was a breeze. In fact, the only tough part was convincing DH that our checked baggage would be delivered to our hotel. It’s like he’s never been to WDW before!!! We’re directed to line 2 and make our way all the way to the front.

15599083698_069b6c63e9_z.jpg

We’re the only ones there and it kind of looks like we just missed a bus for our grouping of resorts. Just then the CMs manning that section of lines asked which resort we were headed to for our trip. I said we’re going to the Poly and magically, they opened the ropes and led us out to a bus. Sadly, it was a magical yellow Mears bus, but hey…it would get us where we needed to go.

15786065312_56b5300a1a_z.jpg

Although, I was kind of jealous with all of the DCL buses around us…just something about having the Disney labeling on the bus. OK- feeling quite shallow right about now!

15599673840_09c0b70d1a_z.jpg

Still, I really can’t complain…we were on a bus, that bus was nearly full and about ready to go. I think we waited less than 5 minutes to start heading towards the resorts. This was also our first time seeing the new DME video and can I just say…I HATE IT!

15782627781_b6f1dd5e43_z.jpg

Before ever crossing onto Disney property, we saw a sign that Disney was near!

15782619541_40b2729c6a_z.jpg

Yeah- the Characters in Flight balloon is kind of a give-a-way that Disney is near! Shortly after spotting the balloon, one of the best views on earth came into sight…

15784481195_c639c6a9a0_z.jpg

I was obviously not in a good seat to snap any good pics, but I think most of us know that we were getting ready to pass under the Maingate!!! I remember being really frustrated after this as well. I wanted to check in on Facebook, basically confirming that we’re officially “inside the MAGIC BUBBLE,” but it wasn’t until we were farther in that I was able to get ‘Walt Disney World” to come up as a check in option. i.e. I didn’t want any of the parks or resorts. OK- minor annoyance…I know!

More to come on Day 1! Thanks for reading!

(kind of feel like Cinderella...watching the clock for our time to leave the ball. Sadness)

And back to the Contemporary to check on their progress…

I think it was by this time that Chef Barnes realized we kept coming back to watch. While there was no conversation from him, we did get a nice smile – sort of acknowledging our continued interest.

We head back up to the monorail…

I tried to catch a glimpse of anything inside Chef Mickey’s…but nothing.

Oh well, over to the platform…

Time to leave the Contemporary again…and this time we’re taking the full loop without getting out. Sorry...I know these pics can seem repetitive, but it's just part of the good-bye process. And this is really when it’s hitting me that this is it…we’re almost ready to go…

OK- time to take our lap around the loop...

While I didn’t take a pic, I did have one little positive thing as we passed through the Contemporary the last time. I looked down into Chef Mickey’s and saw Donald. How perfect!!! I’m sad…last day…almost time to leave and the last character I’ll see this trip is Donald. I know…totally Velveeta cheesy…but kind of MAGICAL!

We arrive back at the Poly…

I take a few random pics of DH…

(not a fan of this side area- sat here in 2011)

And then we head outside to get our stuff from Bell Services. I peak in the bag and the castle is still looking good and the lightsabers are good too. You’re going to love how I packed those. More on that in a bit.

***OK, I have to stop for now since I have to get Kendall ready for softball tryouts and need to check out a dance studio for Sammie. I WILL finish this whole thing tonight. Thanks for reading :)

OK...I am not moving from this computer until I'm done! Well, minus my final thoughts...

So, now we’re just left to sit around and wait for our bus. Thankfully this is not our bus, so I have a few more minutes to soak it all in before we’re gone.

I eventually see our bus pulling up and put the good camera away. Everything from this point on is on the phone. Yes, we’re now in place for the saddest ride of the trip…

15778985272_92c8d43f31_z.jpg

And not the best angle, but this is my backpack and I’ve got the lightsabers in my bottle holders in my backpack and then strapped in place. It’s really funny looking when I have it up on my back b/c I looked like I was armed and ready for space battle.

15592280797_18dbcb17f0_z.jpg

And now time for the sad drive out. Thankfully we passed a number of landmarks, so AK was really the only area I didn’t have a formal good-bye on our last day.

15777453145_e76009dec1_z.jpg

(good-bye MK)

15592063398_4c283b8433_z.jpg

(think this was something with DHS, but the phone camera is too slow, so I just got trees...bye DHS)

15592689810_4bfb0a84b6_z.jpg

(good-bye Epcot)

15779064922_87d485deaa_z.jpg

(and now bracing myself for all out sadness)

15592147018_7a24ed5455_z.jpg

(yes, that little bit in the upper corner of the window is the Maingate...good-bye Walt Disney World...hope to see ya real soon!)

I pretty much lose all desire to take pics (at least for a bit) after passing the Maingate. We were officially outside of the bubble and back in the real world. BOOOOOO!!!!!!!

We also had a less then magical DME driver on our return trip. I’ve never had a driver actually ask for a gratuity before. He didn’t say it quite like that, but a couple of times towards the end of the bus ride he said things like “your gratitude would be greatly appreciated if you appreciated your bus service” or "your appreciation at the end of the bus ride is greatly appreciated." Yes, he was fumbling with his words, but still…I’ve never heard any of them ask in any fashion before. It bugged me.

We arrive at MCO and the security line was long as usual…and without the kids to get us in the expedited family line…our wait was longer than we were used to. There were at least some jokes in line if lightsabers counted as weapons and if we’d get them through security.

Once we were through security, we had lots of time to burn. We were at least able to snag some seats right near an outlet.

15775703711_89b751a3a7_z.jpg

I try to go back into picture mode…DH relaxing, a better view of my “weapons,” and my castle next to my bigger DDB (yeah…had to move back into the big bag for travel).

15592150598_78a3fd851b_z.jpg

The flight was uneventful…which is always good. I used the SWA app the day before to check us in and still managed to get into group A…also good. I took a few pics from the air…tried capturing us leaving FL, but the cloud cover got pretty thick as we approached the coast. I never was able to spot WDW from the air on the way back.

15753955366_f47a0e6df6_z.jpg

We stopped by my MIL’s on the way home to pick up the girls (who were all ready for bed in their PJs)…and when we got home…they got their souvenirs. I tried to get the perfect pic of it, but the first one is blurry and Kendall is still fumbling around a bit with hers.

15779271802_17f53dab1f_z.jpg

The second is much better, except that the light had turned off on Kendall’s.

15591846689_cfb6e1a06b_z.jpg

BTW, I love these things…probably some of the best souvenirs we’ve ever purchased at WDW and really not bad for the price. One of the little cosmetic accents fell off of Sammie’s in transit, but you can’t even tell. I love all of the sounds they make … even when they clash (or hit pretty much anything else).

Oh, and look what else made it home intact! Sadly, I’m still trying to find a permanent display for her.

Loved the entire trip report! I've taken a bit of a leave of absence from this site because I was so sad that we didn't have any plans to return. However, we are going back next December for a week!! So excited!!!! I've never been to Disney when it was decorated for Christmas! We are also going to Florida this March but only doing Downtown Disney, dinner at Ohana, and Mickeys Backyard BBQ. So excited for those though. And we may stay at Disney's Hilton Head resort on our way home for Easter. We are renting a beautiful house with a heated screened in pool to escape the brutal western NY winter!
Loved the parade pics especially! And all the Christmas decorations. And so glad you got the lightsabers for your girls! We still have family lightsaber battles often in our house! Thanks again for another great trip report.
I don't know if my DH would ever do a solo WDW trip with me, but we did just get back from a work conference of mine at Disneyland Hotel. Spent five days in California. Glad you guys were able to have a kids-free trip!

Final Thoughts

BEING KIDLESS

So, this was our first kid-free trip to WDW since June of 1998. I think many of us who have been with our children wonder what the magic will be like if we leave them home. Will I cry when I see all of the little girls leaving BBB and CRT? Will the characters ignore me because we’re only a couple of adults? Will more whimsical aspects seem more childish without our own children in our presence? I mean, the answer was ‘no’ before we had kids, but sometimes you can’t help but wonder if you consider going without them after having kids.

For me, the answer is still no. WDW is wonderful with or without the kids. DH, on the other hand, might disagree. I debated about adding into the trip report the many times we each brought up the girls. I mean, it seemed fitting with Pooh at Crystal Palace and my whole reluctance meeting Pooh because of all of the Sammie memories, but there were A LOT of times DH commented that the girls really should’ve been there with us and that it just didn’t feel right. He still had a wonderful time, but there were definitely moments where he had a harder time with it and let it be known- often a little too much. I had to tune it out a bit so he wouldn't be an all out buzz kill. I will say this, without the kids, my well timed and thought out plans went off without a hitch far more often than a trip with our girlies. There is definitely some satisfaction in that! Plus, it’s really nice to be able to do a signature meal and not have to worry if one kid is going to look at the other one the wrong way or decide they momentarily hate each other and might forget their restaurant manners in favor of an epic MMA style fight.

FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL

It was a lot of fun the first couple of days, but by day 3 it got old for me. In fact, we’re kind of in a “been there-done that” frame of mind with it. I know that’s probably blasphemy to some people, but it just wasn’t as exciting for us as we’d hoped it would be. I don’t even think attending any special seminars would have helped. I think we just were underwhelmed with enough things that it’s not going to be a must for us. What is funny…everyone warned of the crowds and the drunken people. Not sure if I just have a high tolerance for these things, but I really didn’t notice anything too crazy and whatever was going on around us really bother me. I did love all of the custom shirts so many groups seemed to have...that was cool. Don’t get me wrong, the food and drinks weren’t bad and I’m so thankful that we got a chance to try it, but it’s just not going to be a priority. I still wouldn’t mind seeing Flower & Garden…but more for the photography and less about the booths/offerings. More on that towards the end of …well, the end.

THE POLY

We didn’t hate it…we didn’t love it. Our feelings had nothing to do with the construction. Like I’d said before, we’d been in the Poly many times prior to the construction… and to be perfectly honest, I always had that gut feeling it wouldn’t be our fave if we tried it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it (hence why it’s the fave of so many), but it’s just not very…us. I did at least love my balcony and my relaxing view. The Contemporary is still my fave, but I think next big trip is going to be a stay at the Boardwalk- no matter what! DH is starting to like the GF a bit more too, but he still isn’t in love with it, doesn’t like the layout with all of the buildings (a complaint he also had at the Poly), and I think we’re both not sold on their room décor…at least from the pics we’ve seen.

DINING

We were definitely spoiled with good food this trip. I know I said we weren’t wowed by F&W, but we also didn’t eat anything bad. While I regret canceling Citrico’s and rebooking Narcoosee’s for a non-Wishes timed slot, it was best for the budget…and there’s always next time. I’m still really mixed about Cali Grill. The setting is the best, the service was amazing, the drinks were incredible, but I always leave feeling mixed about the food. For all of CG’s accolades, I’ve never left feeling like my mind has been blown by anything I’ve consumed. Narcoosees’ was good and I’d try it again… same thing with Brown Derby (although, this wasn’t my first visit). Now, Yachtsman and Flying Fish were downright outstanding and I’d go back in a heartbeat. What we ate at those two were every bit worthy of signature status dining and I felt like I was getting my $s worth with what we’d ordered and ate. Next time, I really want to figure out a way to work in Jiko. Oh, and Kona will likely become a must for breakfast. As for character meals, the pecan sticky buns have bumped 1900 PF down to #2 for us...making Crystal Palace the undeniable favorite. While CP for dinner and lunch isn't my fave food wise, the breakfast food is always good (especially the lasagna) and their consistently excellent service is something to really be commended.

THE PARKS

While the parks are still great, it’s hard to ignore all of the construction. While I understand that it’s necessary for the greater good in some areas, there are spots changing where I’m sad to see the change. More specifically, I hate the hub constructions in MK. Hate it! I understand why it’s being done, but this was one area that I really liked the way it was. I guess I compare it to those who are passionately opposed to the Poly changes. On the flipside, I welcome the construction in AK and hope to see major construction in DHS. These parks need more and it wouldn’t hurt me if Future World in Epcot saw some cranes and construction walls to get some new life into that area.

Oh, and while most of the CMs we encountered were pleasant, if not totally awesome and magical…there were a few more this time in the parks that were snappy and surly. They are certainly not in the majority, but we’re now seeing this enough each trip that it no longer feels like a fluke. As a person who was not deemed magical enough to work at the Disney Store in college, I kind of take offense when I come across CMs who remind me of bored teens trudging through a summer job just to help pay for car insurance. Disney really needs to look into this in all areas to make their magical service more seamless...like it used to be.

Oh, and I think we're officially hoppers. I don't think I could go back to single park tickets after this.

CAKE

I have no regrets about cake this time. Sure, it helps that Chef Brian is back with the Contemporary, but I don’t think I’ve been this happy about a Disney cake since I saw Kendall’s Belle cake in 2011. I may be burned out on making cakes, but I have every intention to order cakes on our future Disney trips. It’s not just about having personal cakes to add to the Cake Talk thread…I just think it add that extra bit of something special to our trips. I’m not sure how I’m going to top getting a cake with the castle on top, but I’m sure my wild and crazy creative mind can conjure up something interesting.

NEXT TIME

Well, this is complicated…as we have no plans to return to WDW in 2015. Shocking, I know!

I want to go to Disneyland in 2015. I was originally hoping to be there around the 60th, or even around my birthday- which is just after, but DH wants me to compromise a bit. It’s all still very up in the air, but it’s looking like we’ll be in Disneyland around New Year’s. I was originally hoping to go over the summer and splurge for the Disneyland Hotel, but with the timing of this trip, we’ll likely have to look at more economical options. Still, there are lots of Good Neighbor hotels, so hopefully something will work for us. The trip also won’t just be Disneyland, so that’s part of the budgeting dilemma. I keep promising DH a ski trip…and I keep putting it off. Well, we’re thinking of spending half of our time at DLR and half up at Mammoth…unless I can find better deals up in Tahoe that justify the extra drive time. I also can't back out on this because the girls have been watching the Winter X-Games and really want to learn to snowboard. As much as I love the idea of this, I might be sitting out for a chunk of the snowy fun. Not that I’m a good skier or anything…I’m actually pretty awful. I’m a tad better at snowboarding, but that’s not saying much. Ultimately, I’m afraid of breaking a leg and killing everything for my next Disney trip on the horizon just after DLR.

Now, here’s where it gets really interesting. I am planning on WDW – at least once – in 2016…and it will be early 2016. Like a month and a half after DLR – 2016. You’ve probably picked up on the fact by now that I’m working out and training a lot. Now, I have always loved working out and there was a time in my life where I could spend 3-5 hours in the gym a day. Am I some ripped athlete…no, but I’m working on raw endurance so I can start doing half marathons…and maybe one day bump up to a full. I have to be really careful because I’ve had exercise induced asthma for most of my life. It doesn’t matter how tiny or heavy I am…it’s always there. Regardless, I’m determined to get my pace up to a point where I can do this…even if it’s a run/walk.

OK…so, what does all of this mean? It means I plan on doing the Princess Half in 2016. If I’m feeling good by registration time, I might also sign up for the 10K and do the Glass Slipper Challenge. I figure, I already do around 5.5-6.5 miles on an average weekday, 7.5-9 mi on Saturdays, and 9.5-12 mi on Sundays…so, I know I can handle it. There are others who may join me, so the 5K before all of this is also a possibility on top of the other races. And if it goes well, I see more RunDisney events in my future. In fact, if I can work in the Tink half – in a future year, that would enable me to see F&G (assuming they keep the May dates). The budget is going to be tight after just coming back from DLR + the timing of the princess is peak, so lodging and what not should be interesting. Still, I know I can make it work.

I literally just signed up for my first half marathon today- a local race. If you haven’t followed anyone’s RunDisney TRs, when you run at Disney you get placed in corrals- usually based on your time potential. If you have a valid 10mi or ½ marathon time, you input that when you register w/Disney (or up to 2 months before race date) so they can use that data to determine corral placing. Is it a perfect system…no, but hopefully by doing this half now, I can keep myself out of the last corral for the princess. Disney’s pacing requirements are no more than 16 min miles and from what I understand, it’s 16 min from the last corral…so you get a little more cushion according to some by being in a better corral- which is key if you want to stop to take pics with characters. I did 10.30 mi today as a run/walk and avg pace was 14.3 min mile..so, I’m in a good place, but I want to get closer to 14. I just ordered a GPS watch so I can really work on my pacing.

Oh, and the important details…I’m probably going to be Snow White for the half, unless I have a change of heart and opt for Belle. I have a 5K in May (this May) where I’ll probably be buying a purple tutu, so I may go as Rapunzel for the other events in 2016. I’m not exactly the blonde flowing hair type, but I’ll do something fun with it.

Registration for the races is mid-July…so, barring any unforeseen issues, I will be starting a PTR for that over the summer. I will likely wrap DLR into that as well since they will be so close…although, I hope to book that lodging over the next few weeks.

And one last note on this…while I may have others meet me there, as far as my family goes, I am going alone! Either way- stay tuned for my upcoming PTR J

CONCLUSION

It was an amazing trip! I think I’ve typed enough and shared enough of my 3,780 pictures to let you all know that too J I thank each and every one of you who has taken time to read any of my long drawn out report. The whole trip report process really does help me get over those post trip blues, so I thank you all for indulging me in the chance to share all of this for ‘recovery’ purposes. I will also do my best to try and keep up with the reports of others and begin posting as soon as details of my next 2 trips start to come together. I’m sure I forgot something…but that’s just how this goes. So, I leave you with this…

I can never think of a good final statement or thought, but my friend gave me one the other day. It got me thinking on how something at WDW that’s loved by many could be improved (as an optional improvement, of course). So, said friend just got back from her very first trip to WDW and had the great fortune of having a CM friend take her around for her very first WDW trip. In the course of said trip, she tried her very first Dole Whip and said it was great, but could use chocolate. That got me thinking…Dole Whips covered in something like Magic Shell!!! Kind of like a Dairy Queen dipped cone, but with a Dole Whip. I love pineapple, I love chocolate, and I do normally like the two together. Just imagine it as an optional topping at Aloha Isle! I know what I’m going to be experimenting with at home!!!

Thanks again everyone for reading and HAVE A MAGICAL DAY!!! :D

Loved it all as usual! Made me so excited for October!!! Can't wait to be home and for longer than we've ever been. Can't wait to read all about future plans!

I can't wait to read about your October trip. It will be a happy thing during my busiest time at work :)

I know how that goes. It's really difficult to stay active on here when there's nothing on the horizon with Disney. Very exciting that you've got a trip for December!!! It's really awesome with all of the holiday décor and festivities. Also, in Dec. you'll get everything- i.e. the storytellers, CP, and the MK tree should be up. Also exciting about March. Even if you're not in a park, you are doing some REALLY GREAT Disney things. I've heard the HIlton Head spot is nice too.

The FoF parade is incredible. As pleased as I am with the pics, they don't do it justice. I kind of regret not getting my own lightsaber. I would have gotten a pretty blue one and I could battle DH!.

So jealous that you guys got to stay at the Disneyland Hotel! SUPER JEALOUS!

I felt sad seeing your last pictures of WDW... I could feel your sadness!

I often wonder if I make the sadness worse by doing all of these good-bye's before leaving, but I feel like it gives me another degree of closure.

I loved your TR. I wanted to tell you that since you are such a fan of It's a small world at Walt Disney World, just wait until you see the original at Disneyland. It is going to blow you away. My Wife and I were just at Disneyland this past October and We just couldn't believe how much better it was starting with the facade on the outside. Once again thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us.

I never would have thought I'd get to stay there but my actual conference was at the Disneyland Hotel so my work paid for our room there! I can't even lie, it was amazing!!!! And we are already planning a future trip with the kids there! Not sure if all the rooms have them, as I've never really researched Disneyland much, but our headboard had a gorgeous castle carving, fireworks that lit up and it played music!!!! Blew me away! Can't wait to read your TR from that trip! :)
And good luck training! Although I can barely squeeze out a 5K these days, I hope to someday do a Disney 10K !

Thank you for sharing your really magical trip with all of us. I loved every part of this report with all the magical pictures shown in the report. I hope you can make the trip to Disneyland in 2015, since that is the original park that Walt built and truly a special place to visit. Good luck on the Disney World Run. Let us know how if goes.

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed following along. I totally agree with you about a kids free trip. At times, you miss having the kids with you, but then again they have been here so many times with us before. It was great to do adults only things (like V and A for dinner and the Tequila after hours in La Cava) in Disney! I have no idea when we will be back to DL or WDW, but I know the kids will be part of that trip. But I also know I'd love to head back soon after that with just my wife. Thanks again for all the great pictures. Best of luck with your training!!!

Oh, I cannot wait for DLR's IASW! And it should have the holiday overlay while we're there. Thanks again for reading :)

Sooooo lucky!!! I priced pkgs at the Disneyland Hotel vs. some of the closest Good Neighbor spots and it's close to a $2K difference  So, I guess the Disneyland Hotel is going to have to wait. I believe those headboards were part of the recent refurb at the hotel. I've seen the videos and pics and they are AWESOME!!!

Thanks! I feel slug-like today because I need a break day. Of course, I'll be no good for training or the race if I get injured. 5ks and 10ks are a great place to start. To be perfectly honest...while I know I have the distance in my body, I'm not used to this in a race setting- so this should be interesting.

Thank you so much :) I've narrowed it down to 3 lodging spots, so I will likely be booking DLR in the next day or two. I still need to pick some things for skiing. Not sure why, but that just is so much harder for me. And don't worry...everyone will be hearing about my run :) I mean, how often does a grown woman get to be a princess!!! :p:D;)

Followed along with the whole report. Really enjoyed it!! Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks so much :joyfull:

I really wish we could have done V&As this trip, but DH just wasn't feeling it. I'm almost tempted to make it my post race treat when I do the Princess half. It would be a lovely date...just me and my camera :hilarious: And whenever you guys get to go back, you know we will all love to see/read your TR :) Whenever we go back to WDW as a family, I'm thinking land/sea. Still, the girls are interested in some other destinations...so, I might just skip WDW for them for a few years. We shall see! Thanks again for reading and I'll be sure to start posting once things pick up for the princess :)

ANOTHER NOTE

See, I knew I forgot something. THE SPORK! It definitely didn't factor into my trip as much as some would have hoped. Let's be honest...while I take pics of practically EVERYTHING...it's sort of a chore to remember your spork. It also fit in much better for F&W and character meals than it did for everything else. So, unless something crazy happens...I don't think the spork will be returning to the Disney parks. I haven't even seen it since the trip. I think it's stuffed away someplace inside my DDB comic tote. Ooops.

I was wondering where it was.
But at least, it means you focused on your fun, which is more important!

Agreed!

Yay/aww you're all done!!!

Your last day reminds me of my last days. I just breeze around the monorail, sometimes the parks a bit and do..well nothing. Although this past time, I didn't cry at all leaving. In fact I didn't even look back. It was weird. I think it has to do with a potential move that way.

Love that you're considering the Princess. I am as well. Although the Tink is at DLR - not WDW. :) I'm going to F&G in April, so hopefully it's worth spending some time at!

I just don't know how some people swing park time on their last day when flying. I did it once when we were road-tripping down to Ft. Lauderdale after check out for Thanksgiving, but that was different (and it still wiped us out). Interesting about the not crying...that may be why though.

See...this is why I need you guys :) I had seen someone saying that they changed the timing of it for F&G and Star Wars weekends...which said WDW to me. I was wondering why my friend's Cali cousin was registered for the Tink this year, but talking about FL for next year. Now it makes sense! Really hoping I can post a good enough SLOW time (LOL) to be moved out of the last corral for the princess...but I'll make it work. :)

I'm naturally jealous that you get to DLP so regularly, but of course, you're a lot closer than I am ;) I still wish I could have made it there when we were in Europe back in 2010, but I think the day it would have worked for us - it was the choice between DLP and going to the Louvre. I'm a huge art lover and that was the clear winner. If it makes you feel any better, we're not hitting WDW at all in 2015 either...but more on that at the end of the TR.

I have a hard enough time trying to find time to update the trip report. Just so much going on...from keeping up with working full time (at lunch right now), keeping up with the girls, staying on top of my fitness goals, softball, house stuff, and then - everything else. There need to be more hours in the day! :)

Well all plans changed :) You can find a new PTR! We are going to be in WDW in October.... of this year :) The why and how can you read in the PTR! So my best guess is no DLP for us in 2015, if that makes you feeling better :)

Also finished ready your TR! Great TR and even greater pics! It was a pleasure to read it! Thanks for the share!

Thanks!!! Really hoping I get the camera upgraded before our next trip. Not that this one is bad by any means, but her big sis in the Canon line could do so much more :)

I'm so excited for you guys!!!!!!! I was about to ask you for the link to the PTR, but then I doubled back and VOILA! I'm blind ;) I have to get back to work, but I am going to try and look at it tonight. :)
