May 5 Announcement Rumor

I'm hoping that it's the rumour about Pleasure Island being turned into
Sin City :The Experience. (based on the Disney/Miramax movie.)

Or not... :lookaroun

Well, I'm somewhat skeptical. As far as I know neither of the two projects which have been purportedly greenlit for DLR (Monsters, Inc. replacing SuperStarLimo at DCA) and Finding Nemo replacing the Submarine Voyage at Disneyland) have been "officially" announced so I suspect that they will comprise the announcements related to Disneyland Resort.

With regard to WDW, I would think that WDW would want to walk a line of announcing something so as to keep some positive momentum going. On the other hand I wouldn't think that they would want to announce anything that would could overshadow Disneyland's 50th celebration. Just my thoughts.

Heading for the great escape.
I shouldn’t let it out but,

I have it on very good authority ( Honk Kong based Imagineer Imade Itup ) that the following will be announced,
1. 5c off a coke
2. More beef less fat in the burgers
3. PAL Mikey, an interactive Eisner doll that explains the financial impact and cost of each attraction as you ride.
4. A tree planting programme to replace storm damaged foliage, but sponsored by guests with a commemorative tag on the tree.
5. A new inverted coaster themed on Monsters door scene for MGM
6. A water ride based on the water sequence of Emperors New Groove for the MK.
7. POC to be re-themed on the Treasure Island theme.
8. Epcot to get a Royal & Ancient themed mini golf course in the UK, sponsored by Scottish and Newcastle breweries.
9. Animal Kingdom to get a water borne dark ride featuring animatronics fantasy creatures, the "boats will invert" however in a twist ending.
10. Instead of mono-rail expansion Disney is opening a canal based water transport system that will take advantage of the Florida water table and offer a greener solution to the busses. The canals will operate to all parks and resorts and will work around 3 canal basin a bit like a hub.

All these projects are blue lighted

If any one asks it wasnt me who told you. :lookaroun

I would think they would announce something for AK and MGM. Epcit has gotten 2 big rides recently, so it fine for the time being. MK is getting a playground, so they can announce that.

DL is going to announce the Finding Nemo subs, Monsters Inc and probably Turtle Talk replacing One Man's Dream in the Animation Building.

05/05/05 - You know, call me stupid (alright don't!), but i never realised that that was the date! Duh! I knew it was fifth of May but I just accepted it.
Hmmm....clever! I could never have thought of something as ingenious as that. God bless those Imagineers...

Ok that was being taken to far! Now I'm rambling....I'm going to my room...

Has nothing to do with it being the fifth of May. The date backwards is 50/50/50, thus it starts the 50th celebration. They are using the numbers for the 50th kickoff, if anything else is announced that day it is because the press is there for that.

Disney owns all of Miramax and they will continue to run the studio. Harvey and Bob Weinstein, however, are history.

Whatever happens on May 5th will certainly not get any press coverage here in the UK... I'll make sure I pay attention to my favorite site

I think that you are very wrong there.

Disney is always well covered in the press here, whether it is a positive or negative news story. Remember that Disney's largest market outside of the Americas is the UK and that Disney is the or just about the number 1 tourist destination for Brits. Despite the fact that May 5th is the date of the general election i would be pretty sure that the 50th anniversary of Disneyland WILL be covered here on TV, newspaper and TV/Newspaper websites.

Remember back to Mickey's 75th birthday there was a large amount of coverage. There will be coverage this time too. And remember as well that Disney is a company that has more than any other influenced and affected peoples lives for generations and will continue to do so. Plus Disneyland was the first "theme park" in the world and started a revolution almost as it were, to where today we all have or will / want to visit themeparks, and to the extent that there is a themepark of some kind near most centers of population. And another thing Disneyland was one of the key things that "made" Disney - if Disneyland had failed then i am not sure i would be sitting here typing this, let alone that there would Disney parks around the globe, cruiseliners, instantly reconiseable memorable films, tv, radio, shops etc etc

Therefore the 50th anniversary of Disneyland will be mentioned a lot in the press here and in most countries around teh world which Disney has influenced...which is most i would imagine.

As far as the rumours go about an announcement well i would love there to be some huge anouncement such as a new park. Be something else to look forward to and would also mean we would keep going back...as if we would stop lol.

From what Pumbas Nakasak wrote.

Three things i would love to see, although not gonna happen in teh near future.

4. A tree planting programme to replace storm damaged foliage, but sponsored by guests with a commemorative tag on the tree.
That is something that people would definetly spend money on and would be similar in a way to 'Leave A Legacy' or the 'Walk Around The World' at MK. There would also be the possibilty of opening foot and cycle paths around the replanted areas.

8. Epcot to get a Royal & Ancient themed mini golf course in the UK, sponsored by Scottish and Newcastle breweries.
Im surprised that nothing like this was put in when they built the UK pavillion, the crazy golf went down a storm in the Millenium Village so it would be great to see one, there is also enough St.Andrews Old Course merchandise so why not a little course too

10. Instead of mono-rail expansion Disney is opening a canal based water transport system that will take advantage of the Florida water table and offer a greener solution to the busses. The canals will operate to all parks and resorts and will work around 3 canal basin a bit like a hub.

This does sound like a really good idea and would be another one of those 'firsts' or new innovative ideas that Disney often has had and implemented.

Im pretty sure that this would work for most areas, maybe not all, such as AllStars to DD. Im sure that i will soon be corrected and be told it wouldnt work for any areas but water transportation certainly does work, and it would be environmentally friendly, different and also would have quite pleasureable journeys. Of course after the permission issues (if any, which im not sure - are there?) there is the issue of cost, and although it would undoubtedly cost a lot...would it be as much as the much talked about monorail expansion?

While there are issues with monorail in terms of its useage during quieter periods and how flexible it is (rather isnt) during peak times. Water transportation can be flexible dependant i suppose on the number and size of boats, certainly more flexible than monorail and also easily backed up by buses. I would assume that if this projected was ever considered and implemented it would allow Disney to retire some of the older buses.

Ok ive digressed slightly but hey, it is in a way related before i get teh negative feedback over it lol. Anyway rants over.

I was expecting a May 5th rumor thread to pop up. I'm really excited that something else will be on the way.

I'm thinking:
-Monsters Inc. and Nemo will be announced for Disneyland
-The Pooh themed play area will be announced for WDW. For some reason, I think the Contemporary rehab will be announced too. Hopefully, after this record breaking tourist season, the second half of Pop Century will be announced to open soon.

We'll have to wait and see though.

**wishful thinking**

I WISH they'd announce that they're going to build the (mysteriously missing yet still included in the logo) fantasy creature land in AK!!!!
that park would be so much more exciting for me if there were unicorns and dragons!
or are dragons too much like dinosaurs? STILL! they made the logo and unicorns are at least still in the parking lot. . .
