Matterhorn Coming to Magic Kingdom?

Could the filling in of the 20,000 leagues under the sea lagoon be a sign of the Matterhorn coming to the Magic Kingdom? According to this website, the Matterhorn was intended to be built in northern fantasyland when the park opened, but was never built. Could they be building it now as the new E-ticket attraction?

Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain®, currently being constructed at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Park, will be Walt Disney World's version of the Matterhorn. A Matterhorn Bobsled attraction will not be built in the Magic Kingdom® Park on the former site of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction or anywhere else. Disney's Animal Kingdom® Park is getting Everest, a higher-tech, re-engineered, mountain-themed steel roller coaster with a large Yeti Audio-Animatronic®... :)

Bingo.

From what I hear, the area will be a meet and greet. . . possibly with Pooh Bear (as it's across from Winnie the Pooh) until an "E-Ticket*" is finalized.

I agree with SirNim. Since we are getting Expedition, we will MOST LIKELY ( Note I said Most, as in not 100 pecent ) not get the Matterhorn. Although, I have seen a computer generated ride through of Expedition ( Just the Track and the Mountain, no effects included ) and it is most definately NOT anything like the Materhorn. This is a High Impact thrill ride, and anyone who even dares to compare it to the tame, kiddie Matterhorn ( No offense, I love the Matterhorn ) should be forced to ride a Harry Potter attraction fror the rest of their lives:fork: . Besides, MK doen't really have a kiddie coaster ( not that the Matterhorn is wimpy, it's just a little more tame than other coasters) other than the bartnstomer, which only lasts about 3 or 4 seconds. We need a coaster a little kid can enjoy. So, in my mind, it may be quite possible that the Matterhorn may be coming to the Magic Kingdom. We'll just have to wait and see. . . . .

By the way, the Virtual Expedition is here:

Indeed.. But what if HP was to make an appearance at the Magic Kingdom? Why would the Lagoon be bulldozed, only to be the site for a temporary Meet-n-Greet, which would be bulldozed again in a few years for the "real" attraction?

Do you think that Disney is waiting to build a HP attraction on the Lagoon because the fate of the whole series depends on one individual (JKR)? Once the books are all finished, and HP still is a savory character (or not killed off), then Disney would go ahead and build the HP attraction?

I'm just brainstorming, I have no idea as to the facts. For all I know, Disney doesn't even have the rights to build an HP attraction. I just find it odd that they'd bulldoze the lagoon, put up a temporary Meet-n-Greet, only to build a real ride a few years later...

We really don't know anything, so nothing can really dispute anything else. Therefore, all these ideas/theories could be valid. I'd love to see Matterhorn in the MK, and it could happen, but I somehow doubt it. I also don't think HP will come to Fantasyland. Theming is very important to WDW, and Fantasyland is strictly reserved for Disney characters only.

The meet & greet is certainly looking like the future for this spot, at least for now. I'm expecting an elaborately themed, meet and greet, though. Like, an actual Hundred Acres Woods construction with a path that goes back to houses and things like that, where the characters would be. Thoughts, anyone?

Could it not also be an extension of the Toontown Fair?

I'm all for Meet 'n' Greets. I, like many people, love to meet the characters. BUT does anyone think that if they put a 100 acre wood meet n greet that it is too many of them in a close proximity? (Not to mention it's Pooh....err). I mean. Ariel's Grotto is RIGHT next to it. Isn't that just a themed Meet n Greet? And then just around the bend is Mickey's Toontown Fair..which is, excluding the kiddie rollercoaster, a character meet n greet land. I think they can come up with other alternatives. A villains meet n greet in this area...now THAT is a good idea.

SirNim, yes I would expect that it would sort of be the common thread that would link Fantasyland and Toon Town.

I agree, it's a bit too much as far as the meet & greets go. I mean, you have the little covered meet & greet area (which might be removed for this), and then the others you mentioned, all in a row. But if this was really elaborate, I'd prefer it to the other stuff. I still think they should have left it as a lagoon and made it a TLM dark ride!

I dont understand why they would spend a ton of money to demolish 20k just for a meet and greet. I dont have an opinion either way about what is to be placed there, but doing all that work just to put pavement in its place seems odd to me.

It does seem weird to destroy the lagoon for a meet and greet. Pooh already does a meet and greet in Toontown fair. I would think they'd have the new ride planned before they'd demolish the lagoon. It seems kind of costly to just build a meet and greet.

Oh please no Meet and Greet. We can see the characters all over the park. You can eat 3 meals a day with them. We never have a problem not seeing enough characters. Realestate is too valuable in the park to not build a new ride. I guess it'll all come down to this. Save money and put in a Meet and Greet or continue to add value to the MK with a new ride. I too would cringe at anything Harry Potter. It has to be an original Disney theme. Another dark ride ala Pirates, Pan, Snow White etc would be key. Keep doing what has made Disney what it is. Oh, how about an answer to Small World for us parents? Large World !! Figures depicting our favorite musical acts from the 60's, 70's and 80's. A new ultra loud soundtrack featuring the classic hit, "We Are the World" !!! Ok, I'll bet I lost you all right there... hehe:cool:

I had always thought that Space Mountain was WDW's version's of the Matterhorn. Since the Matterhorn bob sleds look identical to the orginal space mountain shuttles, I had always figured that the Imagineers had just re-theamed the same ride system to help tie in WDW's tomorrowland to florida's space coast. Once the ride was so hugely successfuly, they copied its concept back to the other parks.
