In the grand scheme of things theme parks are very wasteful. Lost of resources used and waste generated just to entertain people.
In the grand scheme of things... we need to have a part of our life that isnt just work. Disney built the parks so we could enjoy time with our families, take a break from our day to day struggles and find moments of joy. I dont see it as a waste of anything. It has provided jobs and careers for a multitude of people, has enriched lives and made people happy. We would be worse off if the parks never existed.

If you look around WDW, I don’t think masking tape is the serious environmental problem.🤔

Always made me chuckle when encountering...

"We're eco friendly so here are some horrible, useless drinking straws," and later, "We're eco friendly so now you have to beg for a top for your drink cup and we probably won't give you one."

and then noticing that almost every ride funneled me through gift shops stocked full of...

... tons and tons of plush, plastic popcorn buckets, plastic doodads, and other throwaway plastic stuff that will all end up sitting in landfills or floating around in waterways forever.

I have always felt the premier entertainment company that is known for crowd management should be able to find a better way to maneuver crowds than masking tape, whether or not it is bad for the environment. It just seems like such an odd crowd control choice.
I seem to remember they used to use rope? Am I remembering wrong?

Yea, I have to agree. With all the problems in the world to be concerned about masking tape doesn't even register any degree of concern. That said, however, I think we are being pranked.
Not being pranked. But it does seem ridiculous that it is the best solution they've come up with for crowd control every single day.

Its ironic they became LESS environmentally friendly. The ropes were reused.
They still use ropes, and I think the exact same amount they always have. But they can only really use them wherever they have the little holes in the ground to hold the poles. Frontierland and Liberty Square have pretty much exclusively ropes to my knowledge for the parade.

Edit:
You can see those ropes in these photos, and you can see some of the ropes on main street/the hub in these photos. Pretty sure they use the ropes for the fireworks on mainstreet. In fact, I think there’s maybe more ropes now since they have ropes on movable poles near the Main Street Bypass.

Ropes to keep people out of the parade route.

Masking tape elsewhere to denote where you *can't* stand, so as to create paths for people to move around, and for emergencies, so that EMs can get to people.

How exactly would masking tape hold back a crowd? I'm serious. The last time I experienced anything concerning crowd control no masking tape was involved. My meager little mind can't even image how that would do anything to control a crowd. Please enlighten me. Pictures if anyone has any.

That wouldn't be masking tape that would be permanent tape otherwise it would have to be replaced after every afternoon rain storm. I'm thinking like the fake painted lines that are occasionally used on highways during construction. Is that what we are talking about?

It shows people where they can stop to sit or stand to watch a parade, fireworks, etc.

It’s not permanent. They put it down and pull it up every day, sometimes multiple times a day.
