That sure sounds like he still wants to do it but Disney has no plans to do it anytime soon. There's little chance that blade is completely shelved. They will do a blade movie at some point. I'm just not placing any bets on it will be the version they announced.

A few years ago? I’d believe you. Now? It seems they’re skittish on one-off films and leaning much more into ensemble type films.

Don't make me post the picture again :-p
Honestly at this point I think the Snipes meme is played out. As much as I like Snipes in the role, he only has himself to blame. He could have play Blade again long before D&W, but he didn't want to as he was difficult (think diva, he literally kept his eye closed during some scenes so they had to CG his eyes) during Trinity.

He was also in prison and had developed a bizarre private security firm. So that may have something to do with it too.

Exactly, make it make sense.
I'm not one who has screamed he's too old, but I do think there's a bit of a difference between Mahershala starring in his own movie with cameos/sequels for (presumably) the next 10ish years vs. a 5 minute cameo for Snipes. Personally I don't care if he stays Blade or not, but I do hope they completely rewrite/restart the movie process. I have little faith in movies that go through this much change.

Except you have posters here posting the same meme over and over about Snipes being the only true Blade, as if he is the only actor who can play him, while at the same time claiming that Ali is too old. Hence why @MisterPenguin posted that.

Also since it never really got out of the script phase it basically is a rewrite/restart no matter what they do or who stars as Blade.

I read Penguin right after I saw something about cameos in Secret Wars so I just assumed that was what that was directed at. If anyone really is calling for Snipes to be the star in a reboot of the franchise (especially with said reboot probably a minimum of 4-5 years away), that is insane in my eyes.

Honestly I had thought it had gotten a bit further than that, but yeah, I think that script needs totally scrapped at this point. Start fresh if you really want a stand alone movie. I know so few actors at this point, I won't pretend to even give a guess as to who it should be.

There are a few young actors that could do it if they wanted to move on from Ali, for example Damson Idris who just starred in F1.

I don’t know. They apparently had created a bunch of period accurate costumes that were eventually sold/repurposed for Sinners. That’s further along in production than just hammering out a script.

I saw that article (was it you that posted it?), the question is what iteration of the production was that though? Because the "going back to the past" as I recall wasn't a recent iteration of the script, that was like one of the original iterations. So when they went back to rework it they basically started over from scratch and threw out everything. Because if they had planned to actually use the "period piece costumes" in any of the new iterations they wouldn't have sold them off.
