Marvel Studios' X-Men '97

Man, episode 5 was really something. I thought this was interesting and worth posting here:

It's unfortunate whatever happened with DeMayo. This show was obviously made by people who care deeply about the source material, which is all you can really ask for as a fan regardless of how it turns out. And so far it's been spectacular. What could have been cheap and easy nostalgia bait turned out to be a beautifully written (and drawn) love letter to the original that's better than it in almost every way.

I think there are some real lessons for Marvel (and probably even Disney and Hollywood as a whole) here. More of this, please.

It's hard to determine getting rid of DeMayo was the right call or not because we still don't have the details of why he was actually fired. It could have been something serious. But from an artistic standpoint, he's great.

X-men 97 was a project I had no hype for as I had only seen a handful of episodes of the original animated series, but this revival show has been excellent. Probably the best Marvel television show since WandaVision, and definitely better than a majority of the recent Marvel movies so far. Hopefully this show can stick the landing with its first season.

It had to be something big I would think. It was so abrupt, right before the series debut when he should be promoting everything. But yeah, it's been great. Personally, I'd say since Moon Knight cause I still absolutely love that show, but still, totally agree, it's been great.

This show has been very interesting. Extremely well done and definitely making some interesting choices with adapting the source material.

I don't know how much I enjoy it though - it's heavier than I prefer, especially as I watch with my children. I also feel like the pacing is a bit off where they don't let events "breath" and move on quickly to the next big shift. Feel like it would have benefitted from a longer season to have some reveals and plots given more time.

And this is a personal quibble, but I feel like the distinction between "humans" and "mutants" is unnecessarily divisive. X-men works best as an allegory for people who are "different" but ultimately the point has been that we are all fundamentally the same and should be treated with equal respect. By playing so heavily into mutants being a "different species" or such and potentially replacing "humans", it actually undercuts that idea by making it kinda justifiable that "humans" should fear mutants. I feel it should be much more emphasized that mutants are actually human, just with different abilities no different than a "normal" human with great musical skills or a photographic memory or any myriad of things that make us individuals.

"Matthew Chauncey (What If…?) has been tapped to write Season 3 of Disney+’s X-Men ’97, Marvel Animation‘s revival of the classic ’90s animated series, sources tell Deadline.

Chauncey succeeds Beau DeMayo who parted ways with Marvel earlier this year, ahead of X-Men ’97‘s March 20 premiere, after completing work on both Season 1 and Season 2.

Chauncey will work alongside X-Men 97 director Jake Castorena, who has been on the animated followup from the start. Larry Houston and Eric and Julia Lewald, executive produced on the original X-Men: The Animated Series, will remain on as consulting producers. Season 2 of the revival, whose scripts have reportedly been revised, is in production. Season 3 is in development."
