Marvel Land Discussion and Rumors

Beaten up? Not quite. How so? I go often and they look good.

Lots of wear and tear. The Frozen queue had the paint all rubbed away in many spots, Space Mountain had huge chunks missing from the walls, the Skipper Canteen had paint worn down where arms rest in the window sills, many of the trails/exhibits in AK were closed, lots of peeling vinyl signage. It was a little jarring to see Disney parks in that stage. Not Six Flags bad, by any means, but Universal certainly looked more taken care of when we visited.

MiceChat is reporting today that A Bug's Land is on the chopping block to make way for the Marvel expansion:

A D23 announcement that may leapfrog the big roller coaster south of Guardians of the Galaxy however is a late-developing plan to redo the entirety of A Bug’s Land as part of the Marvel expansion in DCA.

So I guess the little kids get thrown under the bus? I thought that whole land was put there because they saw a need for little kid stuff in the park. Or are the Baby Groot Bumper Cars heading our way?

The park has added several kid friendly rides since A Bug's Land opened, so maybe they feel they are covered. I also think the public has kind of warmed up to DCA being a bit more adult than Disneyland.

And please, no baby Groot spinners!

I just thought the idea was to beef up DCA in anticipation of the huge crowds SWL will bring into DL. Not having enough for little kids makes that harder to do.

How about an entire Baby Grootland? It would be a great way to indoctrinate them early!

Bugs land and star wars land have drastically different audiences. if people are going for star wars and the park is flooded, a bugs land is the literal last thing that those guests who get locked out of star wars land, or disneyland for that matter, will want.

one thought I just had was, with talk of iron man's simulators coming over once star tours is closed, and the shooter buzz in hong kong being converted to antman, what if BOTH those attractions closed and were relocated ahead of a drastic tomorrowland overhaul? I'd be all for it, but that would be the best-kept secret in all of theme park history, and work wouldn't be able to begin until 2019 when SWL is open (or whenever they feel comfortable closing Star Tours) so the timing wouldn't really pan out.

But... California Adventure has more than enough flat rides (it's a well balanced park with Paradise Pier & Cars Land), so the fact that A Bug's Land may be going is a non-issue.

The last thing I would ever do is defend A Bug's Land so I'm not sure how anything in my comment is being quoted for yours. It would make sense if you said "And Cadv has more than..."

I'm tired:D It doesn't have to make sense:p
I was just responding to someone who thought getting rid of a bugs land would hurt dca's chances of being beefed up enough to contend with demand for star wars land, by saying that keeping a mediocre kiddie land would do nothing of the sort. what they need is a set of experiences that contends with the star wars land demographics and delivers a certain comparable level of spectacle and thrill.

Perfect! Then direct my comment at them:) Thanks for clarifying!:joyfull:

They need to trade up all those Six Flags spinners for more quality dark rides and real attractions you'd expect from Disney.
A Bug's Land definitely. Cars Land has two great Flat rides that complement what is probably the largest scale Disney Attraction in existence. Paradise Pier gets the pass for its Boardwalk theming for like The Silly Symphony Swings, but it still needs work.

A balance is key, and A Bug's Land leaving will bring it close.

Storybook Land Canal boats and Casey's is a perfect example of an incredibly charming setup of attractions that can be enjoyed by toddlers and their parents.

Bugs Land...

It served its temporizing purpose, but now that the likes of Luigi's, Mater's and Mermaid have popped up Bugs Land is very, very disposable.

The fact it is being replace with a family dark ride is another correct move.

I absolutely get that. But I don't think people liked Bugsland because they loved the IP. They liked it because they had little kids and wanted something for them to do too. It's about enticing people with little kids to give DCA a try.

It enticed families to give DCA a try, but now that star wars fanatics will be flooding disneyland, they want to give whatever segment of that audience that may also be interested in comics something more to do for when disneyland is at capacity. So that is where marvel comes in.

Okay, here me out. This could be more evidence or just wishful thinking. But with Guardians over at Epcot now confirmed to be a roller coaster based attraction (as the Captain America and Avengers rumor has been for DCA). And with Mission Breakout being a cheap overlay, with the awkward placement in the park, and officially backstoried as a special exhibition. It has me thinking even more that it was always meant to be temporary attraction to be torn down once construction begins on Marvel Land and the park is now getting a clone of the Guardians roller coaster Epcot is getting. And you could further the speculation that it is set to close next year with Paris to receive most of its parts from DCA. Thoughts?

It's a long shot but if it means that disgusting tower is removed from the Anaheim skyline then I'm all for it. Sadly, I don't think it will happen, but I'd love it if it was true.
