"Ben Kingsley is poised to reprise the role of Trevor Slattery in the upcoming Wonder Man series from Marvel Studios at Disney+, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.

The show was first revealed to be in the works back in June. It will focus on the Marvel character Simon Williams, a.k.a. Wonder Man. In the comics, Williams is the son of a wealthy industrialist whose company falls on hard times due to competition from Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Williams then accepts an offer from villain Baron Zemo that gives him ionic superpowers including super strength and durability. After fighting the Avengers several times, Wonder Man ultimately joined their ranks.

Kingsley returning as Slattery lends credence to reports that the show is intended to be a Hollywood satire, as it has been established that Slattery is a failed actor and Wonder Man has been an actor and a stuntman in the comics. Exactly how Kingsley would factor into the plot of the series and how many episodes he would appear in is being kept under wraps, but sources say he will play a major role."

This suddenly upped my interest in this project by about 1000%. I just adore Trevor! 😍

"Coming off of some of the best reviews of his career for his work in Broadway’s revival of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Suzan Lori Parks play Topdog/Underdog, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is preparing to move over from DC to Marvel as the lead for the studio’s Disney+ series Wonder Man."

"Abdul-Mateen is best known in the superhero sphere for his work on HBO’s Watchmen, having won his first Emmy in 2020 for his turn as Cal Abar/Dr. Manhattan in the show based on the DC Comics from Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore. The actor first tied himself to DC with 2018’s Aquaman and will reprise his role as David Kane aka Black Manta in the sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is slated for release on December 25, 2023."

Stop Disney you've gotten to the bottom of the barrel.
?

If you mean that they shouldn’t be doing Wonder Man, I totally disagree - he’s been an important character in the Avengers over the years and it’s cool they are finally adding him. Hopefully they will also use the aspect of him as an actor/stunt man to flesh out the character and offer some storytelling possibilities.

Why is that?? Because they're using a character that has been part of Marvel Comics for decades but may not be known by a lot of non-comic book readers. I guess they were at the bottom of the barrel with the Guardians of the Galaxy but that seems to have worked out for them.

I really like how FINOs in every Marvel thread complain about how every superhero Marvel adds to the MCU is just appeasing the woke mob (even though these characters originated back in the 60s).

He kind of sounds like Superman crossed with Doctor Who. Super powerful and smart and gets even more powerful every time he dies and is regenerated. Only an weapon that can disperse energy can kill him.

"The Photograph helmer Stella Meghie has been set to direct episodes of the Marvel Studios/Disney+ series Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

It is believed she will helm multiple episodes for the series. Daniel Destin Cretton also will direct multiple episodes, with Andrew Guest serving as head writer. Cretton also exec produces along with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige."

"Meghie already had strong ties with Disney as the two are developing Tiana, a new live-action series for Disney+ revolving around the character from the Disney animated pic The Princess and the Frog. When Meghie decided to only serve as exec producer on that series, Disney still very much wanted to work with her beyond that show and began looking for something else. It wasn’t long before Marvel came a calling with the Wonder Man job that has become one of the more high-priority upcoming series for the streamer."

"Disney+’s Wonder Man now has a brother and likely foe.

TVLine has learned that Demetrius Grosse, whose most recent TV credits include Fear the Walking Dead and Apple TV+’s Swagger, has officially signed on with the upcoming Marvel series to play Eric Williams, the brother of Simon Williams aka the titular Wonder Man (Watchmen‘s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).

Filming is expected to begin this spring.

Word of Grosse being eyed for the role first swirled weeks ago, via a Patreon. Neither Disney+ nor Marvel had comment on TVLine’s report.

First introduced in comics in 1964, Wonder Man has been depicted as a gifted engineer who gains superhuman abilities and becomes an enemy of The Avengers, though he has also fought alongside the team of Marvel heroes in multiple capacities.

In comics lore, Eric, meanwhile, suffered as the “black sheep” of the Williams family, whereas Simon was doted upon. Eric eventually steered toward a life of crime and, wielding a scythe that was ultimately upgraded with coma-inducting powers, he adopted the name Grim Reaper."
