I’m looking forward to spotting my Dad in this film. He racked up quite a few days on it as a supporting artiste (that’s the new term for extra). He shot scenes as an audience member arriving at the theatre, inside the theatre (including the crashing chandelier scene), amongst the men vying for Christine’s attention backstage and at the masquerade ball.

He had a real blast on this shoot, said that the sets are amazing and has nothing but praise for the director. On most shoots the extras are treated as nothing more than cattle, but the director on Phantom socialised with the extras and gave praise where it was due.

Yeah, being an extra, or "background talent" as I like to call it, is often a thankless job. When I did "A Beautiful Mind," Ron Howard made a point of being a little more appreciative and nicer to the extras than what I've heard is normal for most directors. But nothing as nice as what this guy sounds like! Glad it was a great experience for him, and can't wait to see the movie. The trailer looks much darker than the stage show, which excites me!

I did not spot him in the trailer, but for the audience scenes he is in a black suit with a white bow tie. In the Masquerade number he is in a Petrouchka clown costume.

I've dug up a picture of him taken in the changing room with his back suit on:

How much he will be seen is in the lap of the editor (he was even assigned a line, whether it will be in the cinema or on the cutting room floor we find out in December).

Phantom of the Opera is my fav. play. I LOVE it!!! I can't wait to see the movie. I also have heard the 12/25 date, but would love to see it sooner. :)

Barnum42, I will be looking for you dad when I see it.

It may be released earlier in NY and LA, as I think they have to be out in at least those two markets for at least two weeks to be considered for the Acadamy Awards.

Thank you for the picture, my goodness he looks dashing! Sorry for the late thank you but the dreaded final rehearsals are almost every night this week and haven't logged on for a bit.

Good luck with the show - when is it?

On the off-chance you watched Sky1 last Friday my Dad played a part in a reconstruction for the Police Bravery Awards. He turned up to the shoot expecting to do a walk on part with a couple of linea and ended up having to to stunt work by being put in a room that was on fire!
