Aaaawwwwee.... Debbie, Dawn and all of you, thanks a lot!!
I just found this thread! How sweet of you!
It was an awful night... very scary last sunday night. We lost power since 3:30pm and got it back one week later, tonight at around 7pm. Very loooong week without electricity and water. I am lucky, I live in a big strong house, and we were fine. We were worrying about things falling and hitting the house or the cars, but thank God nothing happened. The house in front of ours, lost its gates and some window glasses broke. We never lost the phones lines and there was only one radio station transmitting that night because the others lost their antennas!
I had seen Gilbert 14 years ago, but it surely didn´t scare me as much as this one did. This one came from the ocean, sort of unexpected, and since it came from the ocean, it was stronger and more devastating than Gilbert which came from the land, and moving a lot faster than this one. Gilbert moved at 20kms per hour while this one moved at 7kms per hour and stationed on top of us for a good while.
People living in the coast were evacuated and sent to shelters. We went the next days to see them and bring food and clothes to them. Many people in the villages in the State lost their homes and the farms were devastated too. Many businesses were destroyed too, so the worst is yet to come.
The tourist infraestructure and mayan sites, however, were not destroyed, so we are ready to get more tourism! A few roads are damaged, but the government is working on repairing them soon specially to bring help to those poor people in need.
Here is a link to see how you can help or to read (in Spanish) about how the help has been distributed via many organizations.

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers, they are very appreciated!
