The funny part is stopping at Sassagoula Floatworks to get the beignets, then *trying* to get back to your resort without another guest on any mode of disney transportation, asking for one of them, claiming they have never tried them, but heard they were wonderful. LOL (true story!!!!) Last October, my son and I got smart, we took a cab back to the Poly!! LOL
There is a beignet bus that shuffles you from FQ to RS. The driver has a big green hat with a 10/6 price tag on it.;)

We need time for things to happen.
Funny thing is.... when Im at Disney, I have rose colored glasses on.... and DID give this wonderful woman (or were you wearing a wig and red lipstick?) one of them... I surely didnt mind, she offered to pay me for it I refused....
To some this may not seem such a grand gesture , but anyone that has sampled these delicious morsels knows what a truly unselfish and caring act that was! I didn't think it was possible, but you just went up another notch in my book!!!!

I'm always messing around in the kitchen ...I think I may have found my next project..- I'm on it!
THANKS!

I don't know if they sell it in the markets up there like they do down here, but you can buy the mix either through them or sites like Amazon. Sure, there are lots of beignet recipes out there, but I reserve my totally from scratch baking for cakes :D

I love when you say Whit!!!

Whit! Someone who likes Scots dialect? It makes a change from it being mocked by the English (who have more than a few dialects of their own).

Anyhoo, back on topic. I tried the beignets at POFQ and wasn't too impressed (yes, I can hear you saying 'whit' in a dodgy Scots accent), maybe it's because I'm a big fan of filled doughnuts.

I say dear chap. One is not impressed with the beignet! One is truly flabbergasted. It is said, and I quote " Prince Charles visited Scotland today, and tried his first beignet at a French bistro at Merchant City,Glasgow. He placed it on his head for the photographers, only to be told you eat it,not wear it." He heard the waiter say," Awright big man,try this French beret, and tell us what you think?"

What ho, my good man? One may be flabbergasted but no more so than oneself. I fully expected a deliciousness beyond compare from said beignet but alas, too much powder, not enough puff and a gaping empty hole in the middle which I felt could be filled with all manner of lovely sweets or savouries. A chance of glory missed methinks.

Let us not pour scorn on the temptress that is the filled doughnut. Simple but indulgent and heartily enjoyable. I hear you say 'nay' but I must insist upon my beignet disappointment though it may irk you to do so. Sad that it also irks our American cousins at the doughnut establishments when they insist upon an exaggerated amount of sugar only for me to cry 'no sir, please no, thy confectionary is delicious enough with barely a grain of sugar atwixt the doughy temptresses'.

. Agree...I also think that the middle reqs a filling, but I suppose it wouldn't then be a beignet.I asked for extra icing on mine..

After reading this entire thread I'm so happy I live in South Lousisana. I had Gumbo last night (chicken and sausage), king cake for breakfast and am going to eat fried gator and a blackened catfish with etouffe covering the top this weekend!! We are going to POR between christmas and new years and are really looking forward to how well Disney pulls off some of our favorite things like beignets. We are also very happy that the bar at POR has Abita beer which is made in LA and we LOVE it!!

The beignets at POFQ will never be mistaken for authentic beignets. Hard to describe but trust me they are different (closer to a sopapilla with powdered sugar than a beignet). I was very disappointed, but that's what I get for thinking they would taste like CDM.
