I am traveling to WDW Feb 2 through the 8th which is Mardi Gras week. I am wondering if anybody knows the expected crowd level. The Disney Site is saying there are no rooms available anywhere whenever I check. I like t ocheck to try to gauge park crowds.

See y'all there! Once we brought Mardi Gras beads. We almost got attacked by people wanting them. It is truly awesome to see so much purple and gold, and black and gold, all over the parks.

So funny that you guys are all trying to escape Mardi Gras and people like me used to make a point to flock to Mardi Gras. I guess it's understandable that it would lose it's attraction after several years of the massive crowds, etc.

I am sad each year that I cannot afford to go back to LA at this time of year.

Ah well, you can't beat Disney in the winter when the temp. actually falls below 85!

Well it is certainly all it is not cracked up to be..

Yes..I think every one should do a Mardi Gras at least once but when you live here it gets kinda old.

We will be attending some parades this year..We go to most parades in Metairie where I live and in the family/kid area.

I also try to do The Endymion parade but that is in the city and that will be done without Miss Maggie.

Things get a lil too crazy and people just do not know when enough is enough...

I mean I am all for drinking it up and having fun and partying but when you have people relieving themselves whereever they please and throwing garbage all over the streets then you get a lil tired of it...and of course people fighting with others VIOLENTLY over a pair of plastic beads ..well That is a lil to much if you ask me..

So...Ya'll coming to visit us soon?...;)

For all the reasons you mentioned above I usually do the weekend prior to Mardi Gras weekend and get outta town before the "Big Boys" come out

There are always plenty of parades to see and it's not as crowded.

I remember the year after 9/11 when the Superbowl was moved back one week because they had skipped a week during the season. I was booked to go for Mardi Gras and I ended up going for the Superbowl and what was left of Mardi Gras! I remember driving up to Metairie for a couple parades because the ones we usually go to were rescheduled. It was fun. We were always wanting to go to the "Doggy Parade", can't remember the name of it. It was always on the Sunday before we left. I never made it though. Have you seen that one? It sounded like so much fun

I always get newsletters from the last place we stayed, which was in Lafitte. Victoria Inn & Gardens. What a beautiful place that is. Got some really heavy storm damage, but they have it back up and running. It was hard being so far from the city, but really beautiful and relaxing down there.

I would so much love to come back right now! I just got a newsletter yesterday with specials. But the $$ just isn't there right now :( Too much Disney this year  and too much Disney yet to do! I seem to have a little tunnel vision lately :lookaroun

You live in a beautiful place though. I hope to go back before too long :)

The doggy parade is in the quarter and it is Barkus..:)..That is a fun one..:)

I live in Metairie and the parades there are nice..also depending on where you stand for them.

Lafitte is away from the city but there are some parades on the westbank and that is closer to Lafitte.

We do live in a beautiful city and I enjoy all we have here..Next time you come down let me know and we can meet up and have a Hurricane in the Quarter..:)

They also used to do a dog parade in the Bogue Falaya park in downtown Covington, I think. Maybe it started at the park. I'm not sure. Only ever seen pics. We've only done 1 parade with our kiddos on the northshore. I would never fight the masses in the quarter. My old boss man was a life-long member of Bacchus. Now there's a man with tales to tell! LOL!

I used to get so irritated at the traffic mix-ups all the road closures and crowds caused around Mardi Gras time. Then again, I've also stood outside in the freezing cold for nearly 2 hours waiting for Randazzo's bakery to open their doors to get some fresh, heavenly king cake. :slurp:

I soooo miss being there. Yep, Southeast Louisiana is the only place we ever lived that felt like home and we belonged. Hopefully before this life is said and done we'll get back there.
