Mamma Melrose or Hollywood & Vine

We're trying to decide between Mama Melrose and Hollywood & Vine for the Fantasmic dinner package (can't swing Brown Derby this trip). The reviews seem pretty mixed on both, but does anyone have any preferences or pros/cons to go with one vs the other when making our ADR?

I would say Mama Melrose. My family did Hollywood & Vine in 2007 and we did not care for it at all. The food on the buffet was dried out and not very good at all. The service was really good, we had a great server but I would not eat there again. Mama Melrose is better. IMO

MAMA MELROSE!!!! We had Hollywood & Vine for lunch once and it was the very worst dining experience we have ever had at Walt Disney World. The food wasn't so swooft and it was chaotic & loud. We had a much better experience at Mama Melrose.

We ate at Mama Melrose as part of the Fantasmic package a week and a half ago and it was wonderful! Also, if you're on the dining plan- this is one of the few restaurants were an appetizer is included as well as entrée and dessert. The food was fantastic and the service was great- I definitely recommend it.

For the dining package.....are you allowed to order what you want off the menu?

Yes you can order any appetizer, entrée, and dessert- even the appetizers for two are ordered individually, although even the appetizers that aren't intended for two are large enough to split. The portions were very large and I felt the menu had a good selection.

Do you have to order an appetizer and a dessert?

I don't think you have too, although since it's part of the package you'd be missing out on something you already paid for. You can get dessert to go- assuming you don't order gelato of anything else that would melt, it could make a nice snack during Fantasmic.

I'm so confused lol. We have the package booked already, but haven't paid for anything. I've been told like 3 different things about the package:

1. There is no base price, you just order as you want off the menu, and pay menu price.
2. Each person MUST order an appetizer, entree, and dessert.
3. You pay a base price and then order as you please.

Which of these is true!?!!:shrug::lol:

hmm I just did both. If you do hollywood and vine it is just the base price. and IMO was better than Mama Melrose. For mama melrose you have to order each person must order an appetizer, entree, and dessert. So your choices are a little limited.

Sorry you weren't able to get your ressie of choice. :( Sounds like I'm going to have call right at 6am (I'm on Central Time) after doing my online ADRs at 180+10 if I want even a chance at booking this. :hammer:I guess the reduction in Fantasmic performances is turning this into a hard to get ressie.

Originally, I wasn't on the dining plan and I booked H&B b/c that was all that was open and they told me it was a flat fee of $57 (I believe- pls don't quote me on that, lol). A few months later we opted for the dining plan, and a few days prior to our trip Mama Melrose opened up- so just keep trying! Since I was on the dp I'm not sure how pricing at Mama Melrose's worked- sorry! Then again, I also got CRT and Le Cellier 1 week before our trip, so maybe I just happened to call at the right time. Either way, it doesn't hurt to keep calling and checking online.

That's awesome that you were able to get those hard to get ressies last minute. I definitely plan on being persistent if we don't initially get all of our first choices. CRT is the top priority - hopefully a surprise for my DD4 and DD2, but this F! dinner would be a nice break from the buffets and character meals for me and DH.
