Mama Melrose

I've had really good success with Touring Plans' Reservation Finder, but my search for a lunch at Mama Melrose has been on for over a week with no results. I've never been there. Is it that good and should I keep trying? I've been to 50's Prime Time several times and haven't been to Sci Fi yet. This is a lunch for 2 adults and we're using a dining plan TS credit.

Mama Melrose is popular and also has a Fantasmic Dining Package, you may be able to get a reservation that way, even if you don't use the Fantasmic tickets. You can always give them to someone as a random act of kindness.

We've dined here often using the Fantasmic package, but generally it's for a time after 2:30, so late lunch.

Mama Melrose is good and we enjoy it just because it is a nice atmosphere to take a mid day break from the heat. Food is decent but no it is not THAT good that it warrants it to be completely full. Lack of options at the Studios leads to difficult lunch reservations with not necessarily great food options. If you get a reservation I don't think you will be disappointed just don't expect wonderful just because it is hard to get :)

We just ate at Mama Melrose for the first time last week. We went into it with the thoughts that it was a mediocre restaurant, I came out so impressed. The atmosphere was wonderful. I wasn't the most hungry so my daughter and I split the Margherita flatbread and the Mamas Italian Pasta. The flatbread was forgettable but the pasta was amazing (if you like garlic). During our trip Mama Melrose was one of two restaurants that we want to make sure we do again! I've heard their charred steak is also very delicious. I would definitely recommend trying to get a reservation!

We did the Fantasmic dining package last March and Mama Melrose was painfully mediocre. Food was sub-Olive Garden quality and the ultra-streotypical "Italian Restaurant" themeing was uninteresting and kind of cheap looking. It was also surprisingly loud in there for lunch. It lacks the over-the-top gimmickry of Sci-Fi or Prime Time, so other than checking another table service restaurant off the list, there's no real reason to spend the money or time to eat there.

Do Sci-Fi instead, and if you can't get reservations try walk-up and tell them you're fine with the picnic tables at the back- they're cleaner and the view is better anyway.

This is a very accurate take, IMO. Nothing inherently wrong with MM, but nothing to stress about trying to dig up an ADR for either.

My niece we about to gab a drink at BaseLine Tap House when a nice couple gave us their tickets this past March. We had about 10 minuets to make it to the show. It was worth the fast hike.

Add me to the mediocre list. No better than Olive Garden or any suburban strip-mall Italian restaurant. But, it's Italian food (i.e., American-Italian) and that makes it difficult to be outright bad. I'm never going again when Brown Derby (albeit more expensive) is an option.

But then again, with the exception of the Brown Derby, all the restaurants at DHS are pretty mediocre with the quality of food. (Although, people are raving about the new QS at TSL, especially the brisket sandwich.) So, you look for the extras: Melrose has the Italian look down pat; H&V has the characters; Dine-In has the drive-in cars; 50's has the waiters with attitude.

We have eaten at Mama Melroses twice and have not been disappointed. The food was very good and the service was excellent both times. We love the kitchy Italian atmosphere. We are not foodies or gourmets, but just liked the food. To each their own. I wouldn't rule it out just because other's don't like it, you just have to find out for yourself.

FWIW, I'm bailing on Mama Melrose's. Our TS meals will be Sanaa, Chefs de France, 'Ohana dinner, Garden Grill breakfast (a repeat from our honeymoon), and Tusker House breakfast. Planning for CS at Be Our Guest, Yak n Yeti, Flametree BBQ, and Polite Pig at Disney Springs.
If you're going to be in AK for QS I would definitely try Satuli. The beef with hash and herb dressing was excellent!

Sorry to derail a Mama Melrose thread but I TOTALLY had to jump in and second Zipitidoda's suggestion of Satuli. We have done three trips since it opened and have done one breakfast, and three lunch/dinners there. We were a Flame Tree and Yak and Yeti family but ever since we tried Satuli, it is our Go-To counter service. I keep getting a different combination of bowl and it has always been good. For breakfast (which it not open for much anymore) I had the Breakfast bowl hash. YUM to all of it!!!!!!

As for Mama Melrose, we have been three times: the first two in 2014 and 2106 were good enough to visit again but not "rush back". We went at Christmas 2017 (since our favorite waitress at 50's Prime Time was going to be out of town) Mama Melrose was a complete turn around. IT WAS GREAT!!! The service was awesome (with the waiter making great suggestions) and the food was so hot and tasty. We noticed a Huge change and would be happy to return.

Reading your post made me hungry. IMHO you have selected the best of the best.
