Making Magic Kingdom Rope Drop

Ok since they are towing cars at my school tomorrow, I am planning on making Magic Kingdom rope drop for the first time, so i have a few questions, 1. Whats the earliest i SHOULD BE PARKED ??
2. Should i take Monorail or ferry boat (Which opens first, or should i take resort monorail)

Thanks

I'm subscribing to this because I'd like to know this little secret too. Every time we go I tell the person at the gates that we are trying to get parked and up to the front for rope drop. We're usually the first car there in our lane. No joke. And they make us wait, and wait, and wait telling us that no one is getting in earlier than us (even though I can see monorails of people going by us. When we finally get let in and we get parked and up to the front of MK the rope drop is over and there are tons of people up there. So if we were first in one of the lanes at the gate then how on earth did all those people get up there so fast and why did we miss the rope drop?

Hmm. I see it every time but I take the bus/boat/monorail from a Disney resort.

Maybe it's turned into a special perk for Deluxe Resort guests. I'm not kidding about being held up at the gate either. My wife and I are stunned by the responses we get. Everyone in cars are ticked off at having to wait and miss the rope drop. You can hear them behind us yelling every now and then. We've even seen one car run over the stupid orange cone and drive on through. I'm sure they were stopped and escorted out but Lord that was funny! :sohappy:

What time does the resort monorail drop off at Magic Kingdom ????

I called Disney for you and the CM said that it runs at 7:30am. So that means that I need to either stay in a Deluxe or go to a Deluxe and leave our car.

jk about the leaving the car thing. Everyone's blood pressure can go back to normal. LOL I wouldn't do that. Even though in October when we go the lots are half empty..... ;)

Everytime we go to MK, we get there about an hour before opening. We stay at POP most times, and when we get to the parking lot (we drive, busses are for tourists lol), we always get to park at the very first row in front of the TTC. From there the monorails are already running, and by the time we get to the MK, there is usually quite a few people there already. Then 10 till the show starts. I don't know why you are unable to get to the monorail from the parking lot, as we just walk to the TTC from the parking lot. What time are you getting to the parking lot?

Wow, I've never had that problem before, even on peak days, although I haven't been to the parks since spring 2011. In fact, I've gotten to the parking lot as early as 5 or 6 AM and been let in! I just show them my AP and drive through. I'm not arguing though, I am just very surprised to read this, as I have done at least 100 MK rope drops since 2006, and never experienced the parking turnstyles to the TTC lot being closed. And my arrival time has ranged anywhere from 5 AM to 8:30 AM (although I usually try to be there by 8 AM for a 9 AM rope drop).

Answer coming soon. EDIT - Ok, I found one of my old posts where I answer the question, so I copied and pasted rather than type it all again from memory:

I've never seen the parking lot ever really "closed", (so what I am reading in some post here is new to me). I know I've parked there as early as 5 AM before. If you get there real early (or late, depending on your point of view), there won't be any booths manned by attendants, and a sign will just say "Please proceed to your destination". (Not that dodging the parking fee is an issue for me, as it's covered on my AP).

Ideally, you will want to be parked AT LEAST one hour before opening, such as 8 AM for a 9 AM opening, especially at MK, as the MK has one issue not found at the other 3 parks. Transportation to the park itself!

Also, sometimes they stop filling the Minnie lot (the closest!) for some reason after just filling one or 2 rows and start parking Pluto, which is a bit further away. I've seen this happen as early as 8 AM or a few minutes after. So, you already have less time to work with if you are running a little late, and now you are faced with either waiting for the tram or a longer walk just to get to the TTC from your car.

In my experience, everytime I get there nice and early, (one hour before opening, the norm for me) everything goes smoothly with the monorail, and I get to the MK by around 8:30 AM for the 8:48/8:50 AM Welcome Show.

But almost without fail, (call it Murphy's Law), on the odd day I am running a little late, something always seems to be wrong with the monorail that causes me to either almost miss (or occasionally miss) the Welcome Show. Sometimes it's technical difficulties; other times they are late with the safety checks for Express, and the only option is the resort line, which takes longer to get to the MK since it has to stop twice (at Poly and Floridian). Further compounding the issue is if you are running late of the ideal 8 AM arrival time, the lines for the monorail can get backed up, especially if there is some sort of issue on their end. There is always more demand for the monorail the closer it gets to opening.

I think the first ferry is supposed to leave for the MK at around 8:30 AM, but I've seen days where it was later than this. The last time I was running later than 8 AM, the entire monorail system was down, but luckilly they were loading buses from the TTC and I walked into the MK turnstyles about 5 seconds before the first notes of the Welcome Show!

Yeah and most times when we go there early there arent even people in the toll booths to pay to park. Ive never heard of them keeping people in the parking lot. I guess though also, most times we go is during the less busy times.

And to answer the question, usually that early the boat hasn't made it to dock yet, so you would probably be better off with the monorail unless you see the boat on the water.

We're getting to the gates at around 7:45am for a 9am opening. No kidding. I know, it's stupid right? We can never believe it is happening. I have been to WDW tons of times and have never seen a rope drop ceremony there.

I got an idea.... next time, we're going with you. LOL :sohappy:

Seriously though, next trip only the dear Lord God almighty will stop me from seeing the ceremony!

It wasn't the parking lot that I meant. I was talking about the road that leads up to the drive through "toll booth" style gates before the parking lot.

We must be doing something wrong then. The answer has to be something simple and staring at us in the faces. :ROFLOL: We'll have to figure it out next trip.

Yeah, I've never heard of them keeping people in front of the toll booths. I don't know what to tell you in that case. Sorry

Yeah. It's odd that no one else has this issue. So that must mean that I am doing something wrong. :( I'll have to try to figure it out next trip.

Worse comes to worse tell them you have a reservation for the Crystal Palace, they gotta let you in the parking lot then.

I know it sounds silly but I couldn't do that. :( I don't like it when people use old mugs (or do one of the other highly heated topics on here) so I would feel like a hypocrite saying that people shouldn't do those things and then turn around and do something like that. That's just the way I am. I think I may even be the only person on the planet who fully stops at a STOP sign and uses my turn signals. :ROFLOL:

I have never have a problem when I have gone to MK. Last year on my birthday and the year before on my birthday I have gone early. Last year I had to be in the Magic Kingdom by 8:15am for a tour at 8:30am and had no problem going thru the tollbooths.

You could always email Disney and see what they say and print it out so that you have something to show the tollbooth operater if you have the problem again.

I've heard at Animal Kingdom they don't let you into the parking lot until 30 minutes before the park opens, but I have never heard of this sort of thing at the Magic Kingdom.
