One death at Disney reported by Orange County as hurricane related. No other details given. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/wea...0190904-b3jzo6sc7vfqrh45oa3ojjduwy-story.html

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings reported three hurricane-related deaths: A 55-year-old Ocoee man died after falling 15 feet from a tree while trying to cut branches with a chainsaw. A 62-year-old man died apparently from a heart attack at his home on North Apopka Vineland Road. And a 57-year-old man died after evacuating to a Disney resort with his family from a nearby city, authorities said. All three deaths occurred Monday.

The most devastating piece here is that tolls start back up tonight

11pm NHC update: Dorian has restrengthen to a cat 3, winds have increased to 115mph, now moving north at 7mph. The storm is 105 miles south of Charleston. None of this is good for us here in S.C. There’s now a very good chance that it will make landfall here.

Since Dorian is no longer a threat to FL, I won’t post anymore NHC updates. Hope all of y’all Floridians are ok.

I, for one, world welcome the additional updates. Especially knowing if you're safe or not in the coming couple of days.

If you have power and you're okay, at least post updates on how you're doing, please.

Feels stupid saying stay safe when a hurricane is bearing down on you, but stay safe!

Currently Dorian is just off of Charleston SC, local weather is saying it will not make landfall in SC eye will stay off shore. So far we have not lost power which is surprising since we generally loose it in thunder storms. Been raining a lot and gusty winds, have not lost any trees and we have way to many big pines in the yard (told the wife if the storm doesn't take them down I'm cutting them down). Rain gauge is measuring 4 1/2 inches and supposedly will get 10" when it is all over. To all my SC neighbors stay safe. Wish I was at WDW today

Here in SC's capital, it is just getting really windy. Not much rain at the moment, but lots of cloud cover.

(Came in to work an hour early just in case it decided to get bad.😩😫*yawn)

I have been in a hurricane once in my life, don't remember the year. I was in Massachusetts, Freetown Ma. I tried to leave to get back to NH but the traffic was stopped, hundreds of cars all trying to get out. I turned around and went back to my cousin's house. At the height of things huge trees were falling all around us, you could hear them "crack" and break right in two. We ran from one window to the next watching them fall all around us. Then phone poles and wires were hanging everywhere. We didn't know which part of the house to be in. We just prayed that nothing fell on us. The sounds and the wind were really terrifying. We were lucky none of them hit the house. It was really scarry!

Just wanted to add to this saying that especially, since the original point of this thread has now passed, there is no reason to worry about threadjacking talking about this. I can't imagine that Steve or that ruthless Mom* is going to have a problem with it so please feel free to keep us all updated!

... and of course, be careful and stay safe!

*Just checking to see if you're here ;)

I remember the same thing with Isabelle in 2003.

I agree with @MrPromey : the orginal stated reason for this thread has gone but the concern for our members in the community here is really part of what it is all about; so, those along the path, please feel free to keep us updated on your areas as it moves up the coast.

For now it is looking like the part of NC that got devastating floods last year may be affected again. I went on a youth mission trip this summer helping rebuild homes that had been waiting for enough help to finish. Met some really nice people. Jones County, NC. Not far from New Bern and inland from Emerald Isle. Part of the normal route to Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base. My prayers are with them. Salt of the earth kind of town. Part of the problem, apparently, was that when the local highway, when it was "improved" a few years ago, did not adequately engineer for drainage beneath it when a storm-level rain came. So it became like a berm or dam in areas, causing unintended flooding. Sad. You would think they would have thought about that in a low-lying rural area so near the coast.
