And the tourist infrastructure was back up and running almost immediately.... yes I get you were scared but what you experienced was not remotely close to a Harvey or Katrina scenario where flooding caused damage to commercial infrastructure that is STILL not repaired.

We haven't completely recovered from Irma yet, but you just go on and continue to feel superior.

80 mph sustained winds will damage roofs, knock down trees and severely damage mobile homes. Hermine made landfall with near 80 mph winds. It was very scary.

Don't know where you get your info on hurricane produced tornadoes, but they are not always "weak". An F1 tornado has winds up to 112 mph. Michael spawned numerous hurricanes.

Wow. A hurricane spawned baby hurricanes! Yikes! I know you meant to type “tornadoes”.

Technically, the flooding in New Orleans was NOT due to the storm, but due to levees that failed after the storm passed east of New Orleans. 80% of the flooding was due to the failed levees.

I don't know why, but I find it fascinating that one of the leading models is from Europe. Like there are a bunch of people across the pond mapping out what track this hurricane will take to affect us dumb Americans.
Both the GFS and the IFS (the ECMWF's model commonly referred to as the European model) are global weather forecasting models, that is, they will model the atmosphere across the entire globe from the surface through to the upper stratosphere. As a result, they are useful to help provide forecasts for tropical cyclones worldwide.

There are other models as well.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
MCO closing at 2:00 am on Monday, so presumably our 9/2 7:00 pm flight will not be arriving.

Still waiting to hear from JetBlue for an official cancellation notification.

Superior? Huh? Why do the old dudes make it personal? I don’t know you. Never will. There’s nothing personal going on here!

All I said was (to the Australians and others) that the main danger to what THEY care about here (which is NOT your house or your trees) is flooding. The Contemporary Hotel is not going to blow away and the winds in WDW will be MUCH less than whatever hits the coast. Now, if the storm winds up dumping Harvey or Katrina amounts of water, then that would be the worst case scenario for the attractions. That’s it.

Katrina dumped, at maximum, 15" of rain over Louisiana.

I thought you were driving?
Driving was the back up plan. We have (had?) flights from Buffalo.

My brother and his wife were due to fly in two days after us. We are now all driving down together. They will fly home as planned on the 11th, and we will drive back a few days later.

Just get here safely.

I’m sorry if this was already discussed, but does anyone have insight/best guess if Mickey’ s Not So Scary Halloween Party will be cancelled Monday night?

MCO is closing at 2AM that morning. Projecting storm winds to be in Central Florida area Monday evening. Looks like a strong possibility.
