well heres the story

we get to WDW 8/24.....which is a saturday.....

2 of us have annual passes.....the other a 5-day PH pass

that SAT is the only night Spectromagic is palying the week were there..........

should we "waste" one of the days on the 5-day ticket???

Is spectromagic worth it.....it's prop the only time we'll get to see it.....at least for the next few years......and none of us have seen it before......

we get to WDW before noon.....so i guess we can make a day at the MK out of it.....but still it would be our "travel day" I don't kno how much energy we will have......

any feed back would be great!

spectromagic is probobly my favorite parade but i wouldn't waste a day on it. The first day you get there you tired and over excited because you at disney! Personaly i would use the first day as rest and relaxation day using a ticket wouldn't be worth it.:)

Use the ticket. Spectromagic is worth it. Go directly to the park. Wear yourself out. That's what vacations are all about. You get to the park when it opens and stay until it closes. There is plenty of time to sleep when you die. Also wearing yourself out on vacation makes going back to work more tolerable.

Myself, I would pay the gate price if the only thing I was allowed to see at MK was Spectromagic. I would pay the gate price to see RoE at Epcot or Fantasmic at MGM. I think each one is worth the price of admission.

True.... you haven´t seen it... then chances are that being that tired byt the time you see it, you get a crappy place to stand, and/or your expectations were set too high and you regret wasting a whole day for it.

Enjoy your saturday on something else. Going to MK just for that, and most likely arriving after noon, will be a waste...

You could do AK and then hop to MK for the parade... but still... 4-5 hours to do AK won´t be enough, specially in August when it´s so crowded and hot.

Chances are it rains and the parade gets cancelled... what about that? :animwink: :D

ooh! tough.....um..... unfourtunatly 2much2do is my sis and she didn't see SM but i did and it all depends on where you sit. the parade is cool but the seating on Main St. is not so hot. it was murder. there were people there 2 hours before it started. but it was a ghost town in frontierland. i would/will do SP again just not on MS.

Okay, here's my say in all this:

Since you haven't seen Spectromagic before AND because you say you can start touring on arrival day at about noon, I'd say go for it. But I say that on two conditions:

1) you really have to have a thing for Disney parades. I've seen a ton of them over the years and Spectromagic ranks as the very best going. My four year old declared it "better than the video (WDW 100 years of Walt Promo video) AND the book (meaning "WDW for Kids by Kids"). I have to agree with her. Just my opinion, though.

2) depending on how early you start your travel trek to WDW, unless you're red-eyeing it or have to get up at 4:00am or something, you're probably going to find yourself being antsy to go do something anyway. The reality is, you still got a whole day to kill. And although there are numerous things you can do on and around the WDW property, a 12:00 til closing at MK isn't a bad choice, nor really a waste of a ticket.

Has MK posted its hours for the 24th? Better yet, do they have the parade times up yet? Is it going to be one showing or two showings of Spectomagic for that evening? My guess would be that there will be two showings. Here's why...

When we went to MK after Easter, the WDW website listed a 10:00pm close for MK with a 7:00pm parade. But when we got to MK, on our third day of travel, the hours were extended to a midnight close with two showings of Spectromagic at 8:00pm and 10:00pm.

The bonus here is that if MK is open late and doing two Spectromagics, you can skip the early parade and all the mobs it brings, go to the "ghost towns" as listed in a posting above, hit a bunch of rides, see the late parade, and probably do 3-6 more things before close.

Then I'd use the next day to sleep and rest and lounge around while my I get my bearings for the next days in the parks.

Or to put it more simply, if it were my and my family facing an arrival day as the only Spectomagic showing, we'd probably either rearrange plans to somehow arrive a day earlier, and if that was impossible and, like you guys, we could be in MK by mid-day, we'd definately go for it. The parade is worth it and it's showing usually means that MK will be open late.

Wait until August hours are posted (or are they already?) and you'll see what I mean. I'm sure you'll find that its closing will be earlier from the 25th on, like at 8:00 or 9:00pm. MK has become notorious for hinky scheduling.

2 words - SKIP IT! You'll be tired and cranky anyway, and what are the chances you'll get a fab spot to view it? And since you'll be so tired anyway, will you really be up to fighting people for the really great viewing spots? Just MHO...

What's w/ everybody's Parade sudden fetish about allegedly bad parade seating viewing?

It's not like Disnedudete is talking about just showing up for the parade. She's talking about making a day of it despite a noon-time start.

We went during a week of sell-out crowds. I'm talking they were turning everyone away at the gate for about two weeks straight by mid-afternoon because MK was full to capacity. And all we did was plan to get seated an hour and fifteen mintues before the early parade, and ended up finding great seats in the Town Square area of Main Street, right across from Tony's restaurant.

This gave us enough time for some of us to dash off to buy dinner--great Italian subs and Salads at Plaza Inn. We ate curbside, even got ice cream, a few in our party even did a bit of souvinier shopping in the Emporium. By the time the parade began (on Main Street and not Frontierland), we were full and the crowds down our way had thickened up. And again, it was SO worth it. The parade was great. Our viewing spot was awesome. Peter Pan and the Big Bad Wolf played with and harrassed our kids who were sitting on the curb. Grammie and Grampa even had the park bench behind us. No complaints.

The trick is how you plan and organize AND not being stupid enough to stop at the Main Street hub--y'know, the area smack in the middle of the park where the entrances to all the other lands are at. Everybody in the park seems to camp out there creating a log jam. But if you head to the park entrance/Main Street Train depot, the crowds are always thinner.

So Disneydudette, again more of my two cents. I'm intrigued by what you guys are going to do. Again, it all depends on how early of a day you have to do because of the travel. You know your schedule and energy levels better than us.

Just don't let people scare you off with this "you won't get good seating" crap. There are good locales to be had and you don't need to camp out at 5:00pm to get them. Seriously, Main Street Town Square near the Train depot an hour or so before parade time will get you good parade viewing. Works for both MK and Disneyland out my way. And I've been seeing parades this way with AWESOME no-complaint viewing for years. So there....

well.....are flight leaves from Logan Airport at 7:30am.....so we figure we want to be around the airport at 6....which means up around 5:15........we do get to Orlando at 10:25.....so we do have pretty much the whole day.......

Yes....Disney has posted there August hours....just checked yesterday.....the park is said to close at 9:30 that night.....and from then on the hours go down.......from sunday to that thursday the parks are said to close at 6......and than that friday they close at 8:30....but no spectromagic just FIS....

I'm hoping the low hours in the park will mean low attendence.....but I am stil debating what to do......maybe I'll have the kids watch it on the website....

I agree. Don't waste a day's ticket for any parade. I would not even go to a theme park that first day. I would(and will when I go in November) go to the pool and relax. :snore:

My advice is go for it! We arrived on a Saturday morning last August ... were up at 4:30am, 7:00am flight from Dulles, arrived at MK around noon. We still managed to enjoy a full day at MK, see Spectromagic and FIS. We were a little tired but it was worth the effort. Spectromagic is an awesome parade, if you only have one chance to see it, do it!

Park crowds will probably be lower, schools are back in session so you should be able to enjoy your time at MK that day. Noon till 9:00 is a pretty full day. If you start to wear out in the afternoon head back to your resort for a snack (or find a nice air conditioned restaurant and rest for a bit). Have fun ... 8/24 is our last day at WDW this year. We'll be leaving the park about mid-day. You can have our space in line!

ONLY 32 MORE DAYS ... THEN 9 NIGHTS - PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE (THE REAL DIXIE LANDINGS!!!)

:sohappy:  :sohappy:  :sohappy:

You're going for a week which means that the 5 day pass holder will miss 2 days.

You arrive midday on Saturday - thats an awful lot of time to kill being on top of WDW and not going to a park

GO FOR IT - do MK, and watch the parade. That still gives 4 full days on the ticket - you can park hop (for example - after AK) and still make the most of your tickets.

Well, I think only 2 people have said that, but here's my thought.

I don't know about the rest of you, but my life is pretty much RUN by Murphy's Law. If I planned on "wasting" (DD's word) half a day on a ticket to see Spectromagic, chances are good that my plane would be late, my suitcase would be the last one out on the conveyor belt, traffic would be bad, check-in lines would be horrendous, etc, etc. LOL I guess that's my luck!

If you land at 10:15 and expect to be IN THE PARK at around noon, you may be very disappointed!!!

And I don't know how young the "kids" are (you may have said so but I missed it, sorry) but they may need a nap before going anywhere after such an early start.

I think it's best to play things by ear. That way you're not disappointed if you can't get there, and if you can, then it's all good, right? RELAX and enjoy yourself!
