MAJOR changes coming to the Electrical Parade!

Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams ran twice a day, once in the afternoon and once at night. It was actually a much prettier parade at night, and all of the floats were designed with custom lighting effects. It was very cool.

But after five years, the Parade of Dreams has ended its run. They've been repaving Main Street this winter so there has been no parade since the Christmas Fantasy Parade ended after New Years (another parade done 2x per day in the daylight, and at night).

This new Celebrate! A Street Party thing opens at the end of March.

Can some one tell me why and when the parade was moved from DL to DCA?

MSEP ran at Disneyland from 1972 to 1996.

MSEP then went into storage, was used for the New York City Premiere of Hercules in '97, went back into storage, then showed up at WDW in '99 and '00, then went back into storage.

MSEP then was shoehorned in a panic into DCA in July, 2001. When DCA opened in February, 2001 and immediately fell flat on its face in the marketplace and failed to attract even a fraction of the originally estimated attendance, then current Disneyland President Cynthia Harriss agreed to bring back the MSEP to DCA. At the same time they chopped 10 bucks off of adult tickets to DCA (not Disneyland), and began letting children in to DCA "for FREE!" with a discounted adult admission. And the parade returning to Anaheim was a big part of that panicky marketing plan for the summer of '01.

It was a hilarious study in spin control for the struggling park. The title of the parade was changed to "Disney's Electrical Parade - A California Classic". A new introduction was recorded for the parade that laid out the premise that because the MSEP first debuted at Disneyland in '72, before being cloned for other parks around the world, it was now a "California classic" that belonged in Disney's California Adventure.

It's been there in DCA ever since. It is used for just the peak periods; 12 weeks of summer, weekends in November and early December and then the two busy weeks of Christmas, the busy weeks around Easter, etc.

almost:
it premeired in '72 ran until '74,took 2 years off and came back in '77. ran until Summer '83 , took the rest of '83 & Summer '84 off from Disneylnd for Flights Of Fantasy,(I beleive the WDW version continued during this time.) it came back in '85 and ran every summer at DL until '96 it closed to guests at DL in '96 although they rolled it out again for the Cast Member Christmas Party. then it went into storage until June '97 where it was shipped to NY for the Herc premeire. the Herc floats were destroyed following the event and all other units were trucked to FL - Dwarf Mine & Pleasure Island wich was sent to Paris. The floats arrived in FL & spent the next 2.5 years in Central Shops being refurbished. The parade returned to Main St at WDW may 28,1999 running until April 1,2001.
The floats were then trucked back to Disneyland where they were worked on again for 3 months in Disneyland's parade warehouse debuting at California Adventure on July 3rd 2001

I faintly recall seeing the Dwarf's mine floats in WDW around 1999-2000. Can you confirm their demise?

WDW was using Disneyland's parade units when MSEP returned from 1999 to 2001. WDW's parade units were sent to Disneyland Paris for its opening day in 1992 when SpectroMagic premiered in 1991, and MSEP was still running in Paris at the time.

Dopey's mine train was the only float froom that section used iin florida during the parade's '99-'01 run as the Dwarf Mine (& Pleasure Island) were still being used in Paris at that time. as i'm sureyou know by now all 3 flloats will be added to "Disney's Electrical Parade" this June (i'm guessing Pleasure Island will be placed where the circus used tto be in the parade)
