I was in the first row as well, by myself. I didn't get soaked, but, I did get splashed more then I ever have on PoTC in the past. Other then a little minor mist it really isn't acceptable to have that happen on that ride. No one is expecting it, it is not looked on as a fun thing by the riders and it needs to be addressed and fixed. Even if everyone doesn't get wet, sitting in the middle either side of me did get a lot more water then I did. Whats worse is the the next group of people that board the boat end up sitting in a puddle. It really does ruin the experience of PoTC. Fix it Disney! Thanks, no need to reply, just do it.
They actually have a "you may get wet" sign. I don't think it was always there, but it might have been. Last time I went, someone was complaining about how wet they got and the CM sarcastically said "well it does say you may get wet!" as though he wasn't aware that this is a relatively new occurrence that is not designed to occur on a ride in the dark.

I saw the "you may get wet!" sign, and thought huh, I don't remember that, but maybe I've just never noticed it!

And yes, this wasn't just a bit of spray or misting. The folks in the front of our boat got as wet, or wetter, than Splash Mountain. They were soaked. They laughed off the spray on Splash Mt., but they were wet enough after PotC that they had to leave to change their clothes.

DL's version (which I've came to get used to over the last 5 years of living/be stationed in SoCal) will get you pretty wet, depending on where you sit and the size of the people that are riding with you. I don't really see a problem with it personally. Maybe they thought it would add a little bit of excitement to it, considering its a vastly subpar version** of the ride compared to its sister at DL?

**Not flaming WDW, I grew up going there. Didn't visit DL until I was 30 years old. Just stating fact on this one.

I sat in the front row with two other people and we actually got pretty wet. Guess what? I LOVED it. We even got splashed by the cannon fire in the ship room. Granted, this wasn't Splash Mountain wet by any means (we were probably dry in about 10 minutes outside), but I thought it actually added a TON to an otherwise pretty tame version of PotC. Before seeing on here that it is considered a "defect" of the ride, I actually thought they enhanced the ride with more water, so I was super excited!

I think what you experienced is the same as I did. Although unexpected it isn't a deal breaker. However, it has been discussed here, at length about being soaked. There is a huge difference between splashed and soaked. One requires a possible change of clothing otherwise feeling uncomfortable for hours, or a little bit of water that did get spots of clothing wet, but dries quickly. What I and apparently you, noticed was a splash. Still anything other then a few drops, then it isn't a planned part of the ride and indicates a problem that they need to bring back under control. Especially since it has always been a fun ride that even little kids enjoyed. There are many kids that will play in a toilet happily, but, when splashed by surprise can get really upset over. Balance is everything in how the rides are operated. Not to much... not to little.

I would be excited by that too!

its a theme park not a 5 star camp.... lord...... if you get wet and mad abt it then maybe you shouldn't go to theme parks....
Yup, just as soon as going to a theme park exclusively means sitting in a puddle of water then I will stay home. Entertainment does not have to be wet. It can be just entertaining and enjoyable. Water is only part of the "thrill" if it is a thrill water ride. Pirates is not one of those anymore then HM, BTMR, CoP, Buzz Lightyear, Laughing Floor, Jungle Cruise, Riverboat, Country Bears, Tea Cups, Carousel, 7DMT, Space Mountain, Soarin, Test Track, Mission: Space, ToT, RcRC and GMR amongst many others are! It is a totally unnecessary and unneeded new development that needs to be fixed.

The new boats had problems from day one of testing them and the ride he has quickly gone to h*** since they were put in. And these are the boats that DL rejected.
And to my concern, these boats have been spotted backstage behind New Orleans Square on and off for the last year or so. Here's hoping that's as far as they get. But Disneyland won't introduce new boats until they can make it down those drops.
