I don’t understand the push for more foot traffic into the cinema. It’s just one of those attractions that are intended for place-making and casual leisure, nothing crazy that would be marketed as a must-see/better utilize! It does it’s job just fine.May have won a battle, but in the end may still lose the war. This was a test balloon. There will be others. Disney is not going to stop trying to figure out a way to get more traffic into Main St Cinema.
In DLR all real estate is valuable. So from the business side of things it makes sense they want to maximize every space as much as possible. From a guest perspective, and specifically from a purist perspective, I understand not wanting very many guests in there because its a quiet place that is overlooked. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your perspective, the business side is always going to win out.I don’t understand the push for more foot traffic into the cinema. This excuse doesn’t fly when they just built Galaxy’s Edge, a land filled with wasted space. In DLR all real estate is valuable. You call it wasted space, I call it a land filled with potential expansion areas. This excuse doesn’t fly when they just built Galaxy’s Edge, a land filled with wasted space.
Not even saying I’m a purist at all, like I wouldn’t mind a few new shorts being shown now and then, but the cinema just seems like a weird location to be targeted in this way. Especially when there are numerous, actually significant pieces of real estate that are not being utilized efficiently at all.I don’t understand the push for more foot traffic into the cinema. Autopia is a jolly, wonderful family ride. its continuing popularity proves its an evergreen concept. Yes, it currently takes up a stupid amount of space. The answer is to redesign it, not eliminate it.Have you never ridden the Autopia? That entire area is one huge area of wasted space for several decades now so people can drive around in an outdated ride (for the land) and drive the same speed of a golf cart. Thankfully other MK parks like HKDL and TDL finally realized the insanity of keeping something so sprawling but low demand and paved over theirs for future expansions.
Disneyland is a unique beast, in that its inefficient charms are part of the product people love and “purchase” with their park admission. It’s all about balance and good taste. Here’s the thing about this situation: Although the park is not a museum, Main Street is supposed to stay frozen in time. That’s its shtick. The functioning silent cinema is a piece of the picture that gives Main Street warmth and depth, which translates to emotional attachment and customer loyalty. Keeping that element alive is good long-term business practice. It’s certainly not like DL is hurting financially and can’t afford such details. The management is just being short-term greedy. In DLR all real estate is valuable. So from the business side of things it makes sense they want to maximize every space as much as possible. (As an aside, when I started typing this, I mistyped and the park name came out as “Fusneyland”. I kinda like it.)
LOL. I think it’s fair to say we can leave out the failed experiments from the park’s earliest days. Here here! Bring back the wizard of bras!

Why eliminate a very popular ride? I'd like to see it turned into an elevated highway weaving through TL, giving the place more visual energy again, OR see a compact Autopia-style ride opened in Cars Land where Rollicking Roadsters currently takes up too much space. The answer is to eliminate it. Bye bye Autopia.

I'm all for better utilizing the space, but Autopia is beloved and popular enough to keep the concept alive in some form.Because they could fit many popular rides on the land it occupies... rides that could actually fit a theme...
