Are computer networks so taken for granted that the credit card processing backups are no longer around? I cant remember the last time I saw one of these.

So once you take the imprint what are you going to do with it?

It is becoming rare(if not already) to find cards with raised lettering on them, so this method became obsolete.
All of my cards still have the raised letters.
Get the guest's signature...Rip off the guest's portion so he/she has a receipt. Then once the system comes back up, key in all receipts to charge the cards....
I don't think anything was keyed in. Wasn't there three copies produced? One for the customer, one for the retailer, and one for the credit company. The copy to the credit company was mailed to them and they would scan it in and process the transaction.

You know what's funny?

Yes, what are you stating is how I remember it being originally done back in the day, haha. I was just saying if there was an outage today (and they had those stone age contraptions to get an imprint the card and produce manual receipts :)), once the system came back up, they could just enter in all transactions manually based on those receipts and charge the cards immediately.

Wellll. ... for us? These events are easy. It all comes down to "How would you like to be paid today"?

We have cash.
We have CCs (two different ones).
We have a check in our wallets.
We have Magic bands.

If none of these work? Well, I guess you don't get paid. Seriously - WHAT, exactly, would you LIKE? Give me a way to pay you.
It just isn't our problem if you have no legitimate way to collect money :).

Last year, the cab from John Wayne airport to Disneyland was charged by the driver placing our raised-number credit card in the middle of a charge form, and he rubbed the top copy with a pencil so that the bottom two copies recorded the information in carbon format. Didn't need a machine, just a little inventiveness.

But Disney wants Bitcoin or Bearer Bonds as payment :)

My partner and I had issues with the charging system back in October. We have two magicbands obviously and apparently, having two credit cards (one linked to each) confuses it; it wouldn't let him charge to HIS card even though it was linked to the band. Disney had no way to fix it (supposedly). It was either all the charges go on my card or just use the physical cards in lieu of the bands.

I think they still have some kinks to work out, but anyway, I agree with always having a backup in case things fail, because they occasionally do.

I am the IT Director for a junior college, and I have to agree with what's been said about the state of IT at most companies. Large or small, IT is virtually always viewed as an expense center, rather than something that generates revenue for the company. It's very frustrating to say the least.

Yes , it's one card because you are not charging to a card... You are charging to your room account... Which in turn is secured by a credit card.
