MagicBand+ announced

I might be wrong but wireless charging would involve more hardware and possibly licensing..

And they'd either have to include some kind of wireless charging pad (like they do for the cradle now) or [some] people would have to specifically go out and buy something to charge their magicband+, not everyone/every phone has wireless charging

iPhones aren't waterproof.

You can drop one in a puddle but you can't take it swimming for an entire afternoon. They're rated for 30 minutes of submersion.
That's the official line (IP68) but they can and will last under water a lot longer than that. Heck theres been iPhones fished out of the lake from people who've dropped them on their way over from TTC and they've worked fine after being submerged for a few days. Specifying IP68 is more to cover Apple's than anything. There's news stories of iPhones surviving way longer and deeper. 10 months for example.

Now, if you took one on a high speed water ride that's a different story as you're potentially forcing water through the seal.

I haven't ordered because I cannot decide which I want. I just want a rechargeable band is all. Really don't care about the rest 😳
I don't mean this in a snarky way. I legitimately want to know what I'm forgetting/missing. If you don't care about the interactive items (games, statues, fireworks syncing), why would you bother to get MB+? What needs to be re-charged?

Most products need to be fully charged when bought new and taken out of a package. So I disagree with that criticism.

Just another thing that not only are people excited to complain about, but also excited to ridicule those who plan to use them. Traditions, it's what keeps us together! 😄

Ah yes, "blogger buying inside the park for heavy same-day use" is the typical use case for this product, not "family of four who orders these through MDX in April for their trip in July and has three months to update, pair, and charge them."

I know you are both trying to be cute, but Disney reps in the park are telling people that they should all be fully charged and ready for use. You know, the ones they have at the stores in the entrance to the park as impulse buys that people would buy to use that day? Versus obsessive Disney parks fans who fawn over the designs and order them before hand as collectables? Which group do you think is a larger (and more profitable) customer base for Disney?

It's especially an issue because you cannot pair/update them unless they have at least a 60% charge. And if you don't update them, you can't do 1/2 the stuff advertised (pretty much any + services). When some are coming charged as little as 20% - if you don't see the issue there, after mom and dad spend $100-$200 bucks outfitting the family for a day of bounty hunting, and spend half that time trying to figure out how to charge/update these things - I would suggest you underestimate how annoying this would be to the average guest, and what level of service they expect.

I'd be willing to bet they already have buckets of exchanged/returned ones, from people just wanting a device that is ready to work.

What they should have done was make the packaging design so they could be checked/charged while still packaged.

Still disagree.

(how cute is that? ❤)

Photopass photos. The phone option hasn't been reliable enough for me and it's not worth the effort to find every photo via the services after the fact.

Watching a live vlog, everyone in line at a store in Epcot has a Magic Band + in their hand.

May not be for everyone, but I think it's going to be popular

I think if there were more interactive games like Bounty Hunter it would be worth it. One in each park. EPCOT could be the rumored Ducktales thing that is most likely dead now. MK could have plussed the Pirate Scavenger Hunt. Animal kingdom could have tie into the Wilderness Explorer Badges.

It's all right in front of their eyes but with Chapek at the helm and Imagineering run but Ex-Gensler leaders (Known for cheap and basic designs) all we get is the privilege to buy something with barely any real use.

We ordered ours yesterday. We just got 2 basic color ones. We paid $24.99 each. We decided to order them for our upcoming September Trip.
I have no trips until next year (fall/winter travel is hard). I think my kid would get the teal. I am torn between like 4 of them. Of course I have two technical split stays at the moment, so I could get all 4 which seems excessive 🤣

Well, there may be more styles available by then, so I would definitely keep the 4 option open. 👍

You know the games for Magicband+ will be expanded over time. The duck takes / Agent P thing at world showcase will probably get updated to support it.

Where are you getting the information that CM's are telling guests the bands should all be fully charged and ready for use? I doubt that is happening at all.

In Tim Trackers video the other day he was with Adam the Woo and Adam was told all the bands were supposed to have been fully charged before being put out on the shelves.

Is that true? I have a CM friend who works in stores in DHS and they have very explicitly been warning people that they aren't fully charged and they will need to do a software update to fully utilize bands they are selling

Apparently management is now telling people they should be "at least 50% charged". But they aren't. They are coming out as little as 10-20% charged. And even if they were coming out at "at least 50%" charged, the app won't let you do the required day one update for them (required before you can use most of the + stuff) because the app refuses to try to update unless they have at least a 60% charge.

My guess is, there will be an update to the app soon which will reduce that requirement. I'm sure Disney would rather take that risk that one gets accidentally bricked and can be exchanged for a new one versus all the people impulse buying them who then are getting a device they cannot use that day. I think folks on this forum very much underestimate the actual market for these - which is people in the parks that day, who are going to be expecting to use the device immediately. This is going to be the vast majority of guests. Not everyone takes multiple trips a year, or goes any where near regularly. "Go home and charge it up and update it, next time you take your once in a lifetime trip to Batuu, you can actually use it..."
