my husband and i are going to be in disney in may and i was wondering about the magical express... i have read on a few different websites that your luggage can take forever to get to you... is this true? also would it be beneficial for us to pick up our luggage first... are you even able to do that? thanks in advance.... tara

I just have one quick question... how do you survive with just a carry on? With so many restrictions on what you can carry on planes these days I would find it hard to go to the resort and then head out to a park without my luggage!?! I mean you wouldn't even have sunscreen! Plus, we have a very long flight/day even before we arrive in Orlando so we like to freshen up before hitting the parks or a restaurant. Our day starts at 4am and we're feeling pretty gross by the time we get to our hotel room!

Our last two trips we just picked our own luggage. The first time I picked up my luggage b/c I thought I had to (I thought international travelers had to claim their own luggage but if you go through customs first you're fine) but the second time I just felt I needed to pick up my own luggage!

I'm a bit confused. I've just booked my trip through the website and in my confirmation e-mail, it states click the link to order the magical express, but everytime I do see, I'm redirected to the front page!?

you can bring liquids in your luggage, they just have to be travel-sized...not that hard (for me) to live off of carry-on luggage. I'm also male. I gather my fiancee will do fine, though.

Exactly how I feel. I'm very claustrophobic and anxious, so I sweat a LOT during flights (TMI, I know). Anyway, I REALLY prefer to check-in and shower or at least cool off before doing anything. I don't always have this luxury, but in case I CAN check-in upon arrival, it's nice to have my entire suitcase.

My carry-on is usually full of books and our travel vouchers and reservations, sunglasses, cell phone and charger, etc. I don't like to pack lots of clothes and other bulky things (I just carry a back-pack). Plus, I have to haul around the giant laptop bag - so packing a carry-on for an expedition is just annoying to me.

For as long as DME exists, I will be hauling my own luggage with me.

When I travel, I pack one checked suitcase, and use a backpack as my carryon, which goes under the seat.

In my carryon, I pack a change of clothes for the next day (shirt, shorts or jeans depending on the weather) plus an extra shirt to change into right after I get to the hotel, and small sizes of the liquids I'd need, which is pretty much just eye drops and contact lens solution. I have larger versions of those in my checked bags. I don't usually go swimming right away, but if I did I'd pack my swimsuit and use a hotel towel. If it might be cool and it won't fit in my backpack, I'll carry along a sweatshirt or light jacket.

I know that if my bag is delayed, I'll still be able to shower, have a change of clothes, take my contacts out and sleep in my underwear that night, all without my checked suitcase. It wouldn't be until the next morning that I'd start to have issues if I didn't have my suitcase, and at that point I'd start figuring out what to do about it.

I've never flown internationally, so I don't know the process, but from what I've heard in Orlando, you pick up your checked bags, go through customs, and then either take your bags with you or place them back onto a conveyor to be transported to the main terminal. It's not until this second conveyor that DME-tagged luggage is removed to be transported by Disney.

I just grabbed my DME booklet from September, and here's what it says:

International Guests
For our International arriving guests, if the Orlando International Airport is your first point of entry into the United States, please follow the U.S. Customs & Border Protection process and claim your luggage upon disembarking the airplane. Once you have completed this process, you will give your luggage back to the airport officials and proceed to the Disney Welcome Center located on the B side of the main Terminal on Level 1. Your luggage will be transferred to the Baggage Claim area, where we will collect it.
If you have already completed the U.S. Customs & Border Protection process in another U.S. city or before entering the U.S., please proceed to the Disney Welcome Center and we will claim your luggage.

And please remember as previous posters have mentioned, the 3 hours or so that they tell you is from the time you check in, not the time you land. From reading other sites similar discussions, that can't be emphasized enough.

Basically, i'm flying from Edinburgh to Newark, then down to Orlando. I take it I don't have to claim my bags in Orlando, as this would be classed as a domestic flight. Is that correct?

Brilliant...and Canadian
In the Parks
No
Just for clarity:

International passengers who have not pre-cleared U.S. Customs and Immigration have to pick up their luggage and go through C&I at MCO, they can drop their bags off and have DME take them if they wish afterward. If they pre-clear prior to departure [ie. from Toronto or Montreal], then they use DME just like a domestic traveller, no need to retrieve luggage in Orlando unless they choose to [which I never do... slows me down too nuch ].

We've used DME several times. We usually fly in first thing and let them take care of our bags. We head to the parks and by the time we get back by the end of the day, our stuff is there. There is only one time our DD's suitcase was missing and they had it found within the hour. This last trip we took a evening flight and weren't due into MCO until about 8:30 or so. I know it's still early but we knew that we would be tired from a long day of traveling, so we left the yellow tags off and just picked our bags up ourselves. So, now I think either way would work for us.

For us I think the biggest benefit of magical express is that we don't have to pick up our own luggage. It takes so much hassle out of our trip, especially since we have four kids to bring with us and lots of luggage. So far we haven't had any problems.

We stayed at the Poly in December, landed around 4pm, got to the Poly around 5pm; we went to grab a bite to eat and went to the Studios for the Osborne lights and by the time we got back around 8pm, the bags were already in our room. This was our first time using DME and I was worried about whether they would make it or not --- but they did and I thought the service was great.

Have used DME every year since it started and have never had a problem.
We take the earliest flight out of Boston, have checked into our hotel (VWL or BWV) by 1130, have a lunch at or near the hotel, go to the parks, and when we return the luggage is in our room. This is the only way to travel!! Yes, we have carry-ons and if the rooms are not ready we just check the carry-on at the hotel or have taken them to the park and put them in a locker....what-ever meets our needs at the time.
After reading the earlier posts, I see where some want to make a problem out of what is a beautiful service.....but I guess some people want to enjoy problems which should have been left behind when they are going to the magic..........they forget it is the Magical Express which magically places your luggage in your room.

VWL 340 days :xmas::xmas:
