Is there anything that anyone can think of that elicits such a mix of emotions than Disney's Magical Express??

We are so excited to see it at the airport to go to our resort yet get so sad to see it at the resort to take us back to the airport.

Just an observation.

We've used Magical Express and I believe it's a win-win for everyone. Disney gets Guests to stay on property (when we go to Florida we only stay for WDW), Guests can free transportation to and from the airport, and they do an excellent job of getting you excited for the trip.

That is so true. I never really thought of it that way. The first picture I take every year is the DME bus.
I dread the last day like crazy. Waking up and checking out breaks my heart. Seeing DME pull up is the final nail in the coffin.

I take that back, the worst is landing at LAX, disembarking and watching people line up to board their flight to Orlando!

I love the contrast between the DME ride to the resort and to the airport.

That first bus ride, everyone is happy, cheery, and talkative. The ride back to the airport is MISERABLE. No one talks, and everyone looks cranky.

the bus ride wasn't so bad, it's that last night walking out of whatever park I'm in knowing I won't be back for a year or two. I always turn around at the gate and soak it in the best I can.

Same thing happens at the airport in Las Vegas, happy arriving sad departing. Both places leave you broke when returning!:ROFLOL:

It's the waiting for the bus to and from that kills me.

Waiting to get to WDW and start vacation.

Then waiting for the bus at the resort to return home. After a week or more of no cares all the things I have waiting for me at home start to run through my head. Go back to work, cut the grass, stop for milk, and hundreds of other things I haven't thought about for 7 days.

My girlfriend and I have said this several times to each other, it is the best and worst part of the trip. :D

The night before we leave, when we get back from the parks we always say the Grim Reaper visited our room...We hate seeing the envelope hanging from the door.:(

Quick question on the return - I am going in December and it will be the first time Southwest will let me check bags at the hotel before boarding Magical Express - does the hotel weigh the bags for you? Last time I was over 50 pounds at the Southwest counter and had to empty some stuff or pay $50 (I emptied!!). What if I check at the hotel, and they don't weigh, and the bag is over? Do I get billed?

This is a great observation because it is true for all of us. We start getting really excited when we board the monorail at the airport. Then when we see the ME desk it really cranks up. Then the ride back stinks. It is a depressing time. I don't mind seeing them around the resorts durning my trip although I feel bad for the people on them heading back home. 67 more days until our extreme bliss begins. :sohappy:

Yep I agree with the bunch...seeing it at first=pure bliss....seeing it depart with you in it=super depress.....

no matter how long, its always so sad to see it come to an end...Especially when they drop you off, and you see others sharing that bliss you had just a short time ago.....

OMG i totally agree! It is so exciting when you go through the airport and know you are headed for WDW! You want to brag to the world that you are going! But when you get off the plane and see all those people waiting to leave for a week long vacation with their disney shirts all ready to go- its soooo depressing!!:(

We just went though this for the first time. I brought our bags down and left DW and DD2 in the room. Sure enough, DW's bag was two pounds over with mine a half pound light. I called DW to get her down there because I didn't want to be responsible for what was going to get left behind. :p It was really nice being able to do this relaxed in the lobby rather than under stress at MCO.

I also agree on DME, so much so that we rented a car this time and it made it easier somehow. I liked being able to take our time heading to the airport on our own terms. Everyday we walked past the DME bus stop and felt bad for those who were sitting there, quiet and waiting.

For me the worst is getting on the shuttle at the airport and passing by the people who are just starting their vacations!

This is one of the best things Disney did at WDW in the last decade or so. It makes the trip to a Disney property easy and so enjoyable. I had heard a few years ago that they were thinking of cancelling the Disney Magic Express and I always thought this would be a mistake. Like another poster said, it's a win-win situation - it's one of the things that keeps me staying onsite!

I can't imagine they'd ever cancel Magical Express. It's one of the most ingenious ways they've come up with of keeping people on the property for their entire vacation.
