Magical Express question

Hiya folks! I have a question about late flight arrivals and Disney's Magical Express. We normally take the early morning flight in to WDW and that we would eventually receive our luggage from DME at some point during the day. The flight option we have this time around will get us in to Orlando at 7pm.

So, if we were to have DME handle our luggage transportation, what time could we expect the luggage be delivered to the resort. And, will we be called when it has arrived or do they deliver it automatically, regardless of time?

Thanks everyone!

It will be delivered by the staff, just take a backpack with a change of clothes due to it will be a couple of hours before you see your main bags. If you do not pack any bathroom supplies, you may pick these up at any resort store. Have a great time!

You sound like you are right on the edge. My understanding is that if your luggage arrives after 10pm, they won't deliver it that evening. You can call and request it, otherwise it would be brought to your room the following day. So if it takes the full 3 hours to bring your luggage, it might not make it til the following day. But if they are a bit faster you should have it that evening. Also, after a certain time of night they stop collecting luggage from the airport, but I believe that is at 10pm also.

If you are really concerned you are always able to pick up your own luggage and deposit it on the Magical Express. You are not required to utilize ME for your luggage all the way, although it is much more satisfactory to have them handle it.

We did the same thing last year and our bags showed up at 1am. Now they would just deliver them the next morning. Skip putting the DME tags on. Just pick up your luggage yourself and take it out to the bus.

I second this. Unless for some reason moving about with your luggage is very difficult (I could see this getting complicated with kids) I like just taking my baggage with me on the bus. Its a short walk from baggage claim to the DME counter, and from there you can place your bags right on the bus you happen to be taking.

I know it has been around a while but I don't think I will ever be comfortable with that extra degree of separation, when taking your luggage yourself is relatively simple.

Well, it's only a "short" walk if you're lucky enough for your airline to be on the same side of the airport as DME. If not, you'll have a bit of a walk as well as going up and down a few floors in the process.

I'm a big fan of letting DME handle my bags. No matter where I fly, I always pack my carry-ons (one for each ticketed passenger) with everything we'll need for the first 24 hours of our trip. This is insurance just in case the AIRLINE delays our bags. If you do this, it really won't matter when your DME bags are delivered.

For FLIGHTS LANDING AFTER 10 P.M., you have no choice. DME will not pick up/deliver bags if your flight lands after 10 p.m. You MUST go to baggage claim and get your own bags. But if you land before then, DME will get your bags to your resort, and your resort will get the bags to you. It doesn't matter when the bags get to the resort, it only matters that your bags (and you) landed at the airport before 10 p.m. Some resorts will automatically deliver those bags late into the night, and some will call first to see if you want them or if you want to wait 'til morning. I always wait 'til morning, since we already have everything we need for the night and first morning, anyway.

Another vote for letting DME handle your bags if you arrive before 10PM!

For me it's not the lugging of luggage to the bus and then to the resort counter and then to the room [though now that I mention it, that's great too!], it's the waiting. If you let DME do it, you're off your plane, on the bus and checked in at your resort in no time. If you get your own bags, you have to find which carousel your flight's bags are going to and then wait... sometimes up to half an hour for your bags.

DME takes a big chunk of time at MCO out of your time from plane to parks! :D

Go on over to the parks, or DTD, or whatever after you check in.
Don't wait around the room for your luggage.
They will deliver it even when you are not there.
Just use your carry-on for stuff you might need right away.
Good luck.
