Magical express from Canada?

My husband and I will be going to Walt Disney World in May. We made a reservation for the Magical Express Service, but I'm not sure if I understand how to use it from Canada. Disney's website says you have to pick up your luggages first in order to go through customs, and then recheck them at Orlando airport for the Disney people to pick them up and send them to your hotel. Would anyone know if we would be allowed to just keep our luggages with us on the Disney bus and carry them ourselves to our hotel?

Thanks!:ROFLOL:

Yes, you can carry them with you and the driver will load them under the bus. A lot of people do this to avoid having to wait for their luggage to be delivered to the resort.

Is your flight straight to Orlando? I don't know about Canada, but from Brazil you gotta go through immigration in another city, and then take a flight to Orlando. If that's your case, they'll get your luggage. You only have to claim your luggage if Orlando is your first stop and you go through immigration at the Orlando airport.

Is Orlando your only stop in the US? I know when we flew from halifax we stopped in boston an cleared customs there. Now though we can clear customs right in halifax before flying into the united states. If Orlando is your first stop you will have to get your luggage and clear customs there. Many people do take there luggage right to the bus to avoid waiting for it in the hotel

Hi I am from Canada and we go every year. When we switch planes in Minniapolis(not sure where u r switching) we have to get our luggage then clear customs then you drop off you luggage again. Then when u get to Orlando just go pick it up at baggage. Then take it to the bus with you. Which is what we chose to do. You must make sure though that you DO NOT put you Magical Express Tags on your luggage when you leave home if you want to pick up your own. Hope this helps:wave:

That's what happens to me, but I switch planes in Miami, since I come from South America. I like to have them pick up my luggage, I'm not good at carrying heavy stuff, too clumsy... LOL Luggage is a big trouble for me when I travel.

Once you get to Orlando, you have either already cleared immigration or you haven't. In either case, once you are free and into the main area of the airport, it is just a matter of claiming your bags from the baggage carousel and going to the Magical Express counter. As Farmgirl stated, Do Not put the Magical Express tags on the bag if you want to claim your bags yourself.

As for whether or not you clear immigration in Canada or in Orlando, it depends on your airline and whether or not you are connecting in the US somewhere. If you are flying straight to Orlando, then each individual airline has their own set up regarding pre-clearing or not - and it can be different at different airports in Canada. If you are connecting in the US somewhere, where ever you connect will be where you clear immigration.

You can check with the airline you are flying with to double check.

Thank you!

Thanks everyone!

We are actually taking a direct plane from Montreal to Orlando. Thank you for your answers, it was very helpful, we won't put the tags on our luggages and we'll carry them ourselves.

We are flying from Halifax to Toronto and then on to Orlando. I suspect we will clear customs in Toronto. We're going to put the ME tags on. Does anyone think we'll have a problem with our luggage?

I've flown a number of times, either direct from Ottawa or by way of Toronto. Both Airports have U.S. Customs pre-clearance on U.S.-bound flights, so DME works the same as a domestic flight once you arrive at MCO. I've never had any problems with DME taking my luggage. I usually pack any of the heavy clothes into out luggage once we're at the airport, so we're dressed appropriately for Florida and our bags are always in the room when we get back from the first park visit...

From the U.S. Customs and Border Protection web site, these are the airports with pre-clearance:
