While I totally appreciate the sentiment, does anyone else think this weather vane is a bit of a tight squeeze?

PS: Great photos! Thanks for the update :D
Actually I was quite fond of it, I am guessing that isn't how its going to look when finished but the details going into this building are very well done. Consider it another easter egg to the attraction that once stood there 20,000 leagues. Wait this isn't a gift shop?

I was JUST SAYING YESTERDAY that they needed iasw merchandise. From my mouth to Meg's ears .

:D

They release iasw merch every now and then and it's often such utter crap - like the iasw "inspired" art work by someone named last year. (or maybe two years ago?) Why the eff (sorry) do they need iasw art from someone named ? Mary Blair not good enough???

Anyway, there are exceptions... the Christmas ornaments from a few years back were great... and in Disneyland at some point I was able to order prints of some of Mary Blair's concept art for the ride.

But, yes, in general there should be more iasw stuff.. it's just the stuff they produce is never the stuff it should be.

I'm pretty the vane itself is finished, if for no other reason than the fact that you wouldn't put it up there until it was done. Any and all nods Disney wants to throw out to 20K are good with me, but is it possible for something to look both like "too much" and "it's unfinished"? This seems to strike that chord, IMO. Looks weird. Maybe it's less so in person?

I would agree with that statement a couple of months ago, but this is the fastest the project has ever been able to move. Every week something else is now being done or covered.

Agreed. Not sure why many think it's taking forever. It seems to be going pretty quick to me.

There's some great theming going on as well. Can't wait to see the finished ride, even if it's just turns out to be a kiddie coaster.

2.5 years is entirely too long for ANY ride, regardless of how well themed.

UNI will have built the entire HP expansion (including the train) AND The Simpson's Springfield AND The Transformers ride in less time. And trust me, the Gringott's coaster is going to be 20x better themed than the SWMT will be.

The dolls they released this year, as well as the few stuffed animals, are pretty high quality. They're nearly like having a AA from the ride home with you. I nearly had a heart attack when I ran into the display at the Disney Store. The store displays even have a small blurb about Mary Blair. Quite well done. I know my kids love them

(and so do I, having a hard time not collecting all of them)

I agree....to a degree...but isn't it actually on schedule or was it announced long ago that all of the Fantasy Land Expansion would have been completed already? Considering the location the Mine Train sits, I'm not unimpressed with their building of it, it's not easy doing all that construction in such a confined space.

It is absolutely on schedule. An absolutely snail's-paced, ridiculously drawn-out schedule.

They have plenty of room to work. It's no more confined than any other construction job. The only thing making it more difficult is getting resources in and out, which can be done overnight with no problem.

Although it may be taking longer than most would like, when the SDMT was originally announced, they did say early 2014(correct me if i am wrong) so of course they are going to take their time and make sure everything is going smoothly, rather than rush the project and risk tons of technical problems just for people to come back here and complain about them hahaha

It may not have been announced publically, but I know Lee posted early on that the internal timeline was Q2 2014.

The reason it is scheduled to take so long to complete has nothing to do with them worried about "everything going smoothly" because they "rushed the project".
The reasons are:
Spaced out openings. This will be the ONLY new attraction opening in 2014 in all of WDW. If it were to open in 2013, they'd have nothing new to open for next year. They had Princess Fairytale Hall for 2013.
Budgets. By pushing it back to 2014, they're able spread out the costs over multiple years.
Costs. The longer a construction project timeline, the less it costs. Construction companies charge less if there isn't a push for a quick opening and the slower progress means fewer man hours.

The project was originally supposedly delayed because it was a late addition due to the swap from Cinderella's Chateau. They started construction only a few months after the rest of the FLE, so there's no reason to think plans weren't ready to go by then (meaning at most, it should have opened only 3-6 months after the rest of the FLE).

I love 's work. Cool retro looking, honoring to the past. Especially fitting for the Tiki Room and Haunted Mansion. I bet his Small World stuff is great.

Indeed... to quote another expression confirmed daily at WDW, "there's no accounting for taste." ;)

To me, it's akin to going to MoMA, seeing "Starry Night" and then buying a poster (or whatever) of 's version of it.
