Magic Kingdom on my first day?

My first question would be when are you actually going because I think it does make a big difference? We went to MK on our first, second and third days last year with a 5 and 7 year old. It was a Mon-Wed....we went stright to Adventureland and Frontierland and did all the classics and Splah Mtn and BTMRR. One suggestion..dont let your 5 yr old sit up front on BTMRR...mine did and got scared and wouldnt ride it again. This was my 6th trip so I had a great idea of the park layout and times it takes to get around. We had a PS for breakfast at the castle and we were out in time to be first in line at the chains that keep you out of the actual theme areas till 9. I think we ate at 8:15. My other question would be how much do you trust letting the older ones do some rides of their own? You could let them do some of the older kids rides at Tomorrowland like SM while you take the younger one to Toontown. They get to have a little freedom and trust and the young one gets to see Mickey and Minnies places and some younger rides maybe and meet up in front of the old 20000 leagues lagoon. I would definatly plan 2 days at MK though. if you had been before it wouldnt take so long because some rides you wouldnt want to do again but if you really want to enjoy it and not be a blur spend 2 days there. I would also suggest going back to your hotel if you are staying on site for a quick swim and lunch and then go back in. It makes a big difference.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies, I already feel I know more!
We will arrive on the 30th October but not until the evening, so our first day in the parks will be the 31st. I think I will probably do MK first as I think the kids have psyched themselves up for it but I do wonder if I can do MKduring the day and then The Halloween Party at night? Will this be too much/
Thanks again for all your help with this.

We go to Epcot , MK , AK , MGM.........

If I had kids I may do MK twice so that we can do ALL the rides possible and the fun ones twice....

Hi Misti, Yes you can absolutely do MK during the day and then the Halloween Party later on that evening and actually I think your kids ( and probably you also) would be interested to see how much changes in like 1 hour!!! Id say make it a nice leisurely morning, Are you staying on property?? if so scope out your hotel. There is quite a bit to see and do there also. then mosey on over to the MK and take your time to do EVERYTHING!!! Also stop by City Hall which is on your left hand side as you entter the MK and get a park map for the day as well as for the party that night. Most stuff will be open at both times but some stuff is only open during the day and some stuff gets made over for the party!! Definitely do the stuff that will not be open later during the day. Hope you have an AWESOME time!!! Belle

Good advice since people usually leave earlier since they get there right as they open. I am guilty of this and have never seen the fireworks at MK...

hi misti! welcome to the boards! your first day will also be my last full day - we are leaving wdw on that saturday, the 1st... we also plan to attend mnsshp on the 31st - maybe we'll see you there!

anyway - if your first full day will be a friday then go for it and start your week at mk. we always like to start and end there, but it depends on the days... we do whatever we can to minimize the crowds that we deal with...

have a great time! you and the kids will have a blast!!!

Thanks, we will be staying at the WDW Dolphin hotel so I think the idea of a later start is a really good one. I think maybe we will plan to go to MK another day also, perhaps one of the early entry days as we're staying on site!
Are there as many people for the MNSSHP? Can we expect to queue for as long in the evening?
Sorry for all the questions, I have loads!

you are gonna love staying on site - we've done both and never had a problem staying off site, until we stayed on... now we can never stay offsite again!

you will definitely want to do more than 1 day at mk... i personally avoid the early entry days because they tend to be more crowded on those days.. but that's just me... if you are an up early kind of person, you may want to go to the early entry and then hop over to another less crowded park later in the day... (just a thought)

as for the crowds at the party - it's a limited ticket function so it won't be too terribly crowded but it's also a limited attraction function so the crowds aren't spread out over every attraction.. still - the lines shouldn't be too bad... you will enjoy it... and wait till you see the transformation of the park - they do an amazing job with the decorations!

First a great place for information is The Unauthorized Guide to WDW. I borrowed one from our library and then bought one since it had such great information. I have hilighted all over it. It also has touring guides to tell you what to see first etc. It does recommened not going to MK first because the other parks will be a let down for little kids but I am going there first on a Monday in off season and if it gets too crowded we'll park hop and return on our free day which is Friday. My kids expect to see Cindy's castle and I'm afraid they would be disappointed anywhere else first. This trip is for them and we don't expect to see and ride everything.

Most people like to go to Magic Kingdom first because to them the Magic Kingdom is "Disney World". It's the original. Magic Kingdom was never really my favorite, but now that I work there I've grown to love it. It has rides for every age. The only problem is that MK ends up being the busiest park out of the four.
