Yep, they are the same color as the current Toll Booths at the TTC entrance, except the current ones have faded from years of being out in the Weather.

Why don't they just repaint the current ones? This doesn't seem like a wise use of funds.

Maybe the shelters only have a certain shelf life, things like the roofs may get damaged etc which might end up just as cheap to replace.

Funds and Budgets for things like these would be from seperate ones to other things within the parks.

We saw the new booths staged next to the plaza when we were there last week, and I also wondered why they were being changed, as the new ones appear to be exactly the same as the current ones. Then I looked closely at the current booths, and it looks like some of them have quite a bit of rust at the bases, where they would take the bulk of the weather. Not all of them, so I'm guessing they are only replacing those that are necessary.

I'll say it, those are ugly.

Yeah, I agree!! The MK toll plaza and TTC in general have seen better days and could use some major updating.

Seriously, as for the TTC, for being the first and last thing most MK guests see, its in really pathetic shape (rust, paint, upkeep etc), not to mention the fact that the design is just ugly and dated. It wouldn't take that much money overall to spruce the place up.

A revamp of the entire MK toll plaza area has been looked at for quite a while now. I wonder if this is an indication of work being started? The plans are for the booths to be moved further down the road on the actual drive "into" the parking lot letting northbound traffic for the Contemp, Poly and Grand go by without needing to enter the plaza area. An entire rework of the road system around the parking lot is also planned as part of this. I've noticed in the past few days that there are traffic counting mechanisms (black hoses) on the roads adjacent to the roads near MK.

While the MK toll plaza doesn't bother me much, I agree that the TTC needs some serious renovations! It's probably the worst example of Disney upkeep, and like you said, the first thing most guests see when arriving. I guess anything that doesn't directly make money gets the shaft!

The people who work in the booths are sort of considered attractions, as it is part of the auto plaza, and I believe they could be trained for the trams. But they are more like merchandise in reality because they also work in Mickey's Gift Station.

Well, you don't really do alot so I guess the low wage is expected. Sadly, that is typical Disney job rate.
Actually, the people in the toll booths also do all the parking lot related stuff, including driving the trams, if I'm not mistaken. On top of being outside in the hot sun the entire shift.

That low of a wage is not "expected", considering your average Wal-Mart associate even gets paid more to do far less.

believe it or not, the auto plaza workers are totally different from those of us on the trams, we even belong to different unions! There is a few people who are cross trained but overall the auto plaza cast rarely meets the tram cast.
