When were they removed? Do you know an actual date?

I did not say that as an urban myth that I had heard. I said it because of common sense at the time. I had looked at them very close to that date. And I remember realizing soon after that they had been taken down or inoperative soon afterward. So, I may be wrong in actual date, but I was confident at the time that that fed into the decision at least to never bring them back up at the time -- although again for safety reasons, I thought that they would never say that in public (hence bringing attention to themselves as a target).

It just seemed logical. But I do know that I had seen the cams just before 9/11/01, because I had looked at them.

That, by the way, is the main reason that I discovered these boards at the time. Check my "join date"! I was looking around for news on how WDW reacted to the attacks and sudden change to no one being able to fly. And I found this wonderful community!

Anyhow, I may have my dates slightly off, but I was stating what seemed to be the case at the time, and of which I was confident, but not a rumor that anyone had told me. May have overstated my confidence in it, but I still feel confident at least that it played in decisions not to put the cameras back on.
