Magic Carpets Of Aladdin Question?

Do the Magic Carpets of Aladdin fit well with the theme of Adventureland? I have not seen the attraction in person yet. It seems like they fit it into a very small space! I wonder if it would have been a better fit at the Disney MGM Studios. The Magic Kingdom has 2 other rides just like it!

I don't like the location of the carpets.

1. The ride has really destroyed what traffic patterns there were. Traffic is a mess getting through the area.

2. Most of adventureland is very dull (yellows, browns) while the carpets are very bright (purple, pinks, blues, etc). The ride sticks out like a sore thumb or a huge pimple on the end of your nose.

...yeah...I liked it better when it was open too...felt like I was in Agrabah's marketplace...it's very congested now especially between the Carpets and the Tiki Room....

...the 'suits' must have decided that Adventureland was getting tired and the Carpets were the best they could do with the space they had available...but, let's face it...it's a Dumbo ride with a twist...the Camel spits at ya...

...personally, I'd like to see them use that treehouse space for something else...that thing is MURDER on a 105 heat index day.
They need to rename the treehouse to "Swiss Family's Heart Attack City"

My biggest problem with the addition is that you enter Adventure land in a Spanish Colonial style, pass through the desert in Agrabah and return to Spanish Colonial at Pirates. Kind of a strange architectural progression, but it looks fine if you aren't nitpicky about that type of stuff. They did a good job with the Agrabah theming, at least.

Nope. That thing called "Thematic Continuity" in Adventureland was wrecked when they adding this ride. It is basically the brainchild of some suit that said, "Hey, let's drop a spinner here!"

And that is exactly what they did...

I wasn't meaning to say that the continuity of the land was any good, just that the Agrabah section BY ITSELF looks OK. I don't like the overall effect.

It makes Adventureland look a lot like Busch Gardens Tampa... which isn't a bad thing, if it were Busch Gardens Tampa, and not MK

Now that you mention that, Rob...seems like Disney is copying Busch Gardens in other areas too...that new carnival section at the Animal Kingdom is very similar to the Timbuktu area at BG.:)

As cheesy as the Magic Carpets thing is, I do like the idea of adding an "Agrabah" area to Adventureland. It seems that the true heart of the original adventureland, the idea of jungles, exotic animals, etc, has been handed over to Animal Kingdom. I wish they could move the whole land and its attractions over to AK, and have a different kind of theming for Adventureland. Adventure can mean a lot of things, not just "jungles", so mabey an Agrabah type area could be the answer? I'm thinking more along the lines of "Indiana Jones" adventure compared to "Jungle Cruise" adventure.

I ahve also seen pictures of the Arabian Coast at DisneySea. Something lke that would be cool at Adventureland. They have a 3D genie show. Mabey they could translate it into English...?

I was wondering what they removed from the area to build the carpets?

Umm… a big open area… A few trees with fake rocks and a bench or two, I think that's about it… Oh, the most important thing they removed was the feeling of space that you had in this area. Now it feels like Main Street during a parade half the time. When I walk by and see it, I try to just focus on all the people waiting to get on and remind myself that those are people that WON’T be adding to my wait in line for whatever attraction I’m heading towards... What can I say, I’m trying to think positive these days.

As much as I'm opposed to "spinners" (there's just too many now)... I'll admit the Flying Carpets is my favorite.

Yes, it does take away Adventureland's serentity, making it a much more kinetic place. And the wild color scheme does stand out.

But now with Animal Kingdom just down the road (which is basically a sprawling Adventureland), Disney needed to make the MK's section different.

The ride itself is actually very fun--- mainly because it IS in Adventureland. You really feel like you're flying past surrounding jungle and exotic architecture. Among the spinners, this one feels the LEAST like a carnival ride.

I'm about to be blasted for this next suggestion--- but with the theme of "New Adventureland" now more whimsical than the past, I think WDW could pull off a successful "Tarzan's Treehouse" makeover.

(Although I enjoyed Disneyland's make-over, Tarzan does NOT fit in that Adventureland. DL's Adventureland is only about a THIRD of WDW's size, and the transition from Jungle Cruise/Indy to Treehouse to New Orleans Square is AWFUL.)

I must say I enjoy the flying carpets as well. I rather like the Swiss Family House. But they most definately need a redo or get rid of Jungle cruise. Thats what Animal kingdom is for. Or use that as a segway for Animal Kingdom....

I agree that the Jungle Cruise needs some touching up...ok...a LOT of touching up...but it DEFINITELY should NOT be removed.

The Swiss Family Treehouse looks GREAT in Adventureland but the attraction is severely lacking something...like...FUN. I agree with most people, get rid of or update the SFTreehouse. (It's a LARGE plot of land)

I agree also the JC needs some rehab and again it really shouldn't be removed and something should be done to Swiss Tree House but do not get rid of the banyan (sp?) tree it sits in because it is a great piece of scenery and could be used in another attraction but getting back on topic I like the themeing in Agrabah but I don't like the Carpet ride, maybe something else shoudl have been developed pending on available land.
